Instruction to candidates
08.07.2015
The result of MA (English) Entrance Examination held on 28 June 2015 is
announced herewith.
The result is displayed in two parts:
(1) Part A (i.e. OMR) marks of all candidates listed according to roll number
(2) Total marks (i.e. Parts A + B + C) of candidates who have qualified in Part
A. (The qualifying marks for Part A has been fixed as 26 for General
Category candidates.)
All candidates who have qualified in the Entrance as per the eligibility criteria
given in Appendix I are required to go through the instructions given below.
Instructions
1. Candidates seeking admission through Entrance are required to take note
of the following points:
a. The minimum marks for qualifying in Part A is 26 (applicable only to
the General Category).
b. For General Category candidates, Parts B and C have been evaluated
only if they have qualified in Part A.
c. Please note that those who seek admission through Entrance have to
fulfill the minimum eligibility conditions in the qualifying
examination (i.e. BA/BSc. etc.) and in the Entrance examination
conducted by the Department. The eligibility criteria for admission
through Entrance are given in Appendix I(A).
2. All the candidates who are eligible for Direct Admission are required to
fill in their Honours marks as per the instructions sent to them separately
by email. The eligibility criteria for Direct Admission are given in
Appendix I(B).
3.

The Department will publish a rank/merit list of the candidates who are
eligible for Direct Admission. Please check the Announcements in the
Department website by July 15 for the list. (URL: http://www.englishdu.ac.in)

4. Fulfilling the eligibility criteria alone will not guarantee a seat for MA.
Seats will be filled on the basis of the merit/rank.
5. All the candidates who are eligible for Direct admission and/or who have
qualified the Entrance examination are required to fill the College
Preference Form as per the instructions sent separately by email. Please
exercise proper care while filling the form, as no change will be possible
after submission. Please note the following points:

a. The candidates have to choose the colleges ranking them according to

the order of preference.
b. There are a total of 19 colleges on the list, out of which 8 are womens
colleges. Therefore, male candidates will effectually have only 11
choices.
c. Candidates not familiar with the colleges in Delhi are advised to
familiarize themselves with the colleges and their location before
attempting to fill the form.
d. Candidates seeking admission to St. Stephens College are required to
contact the College and find out the details regarding admission.
6. All the candidates who qualified the Entrance have been given two ranks
a Rank in their Category and a Combined Rank. General Category
candidates will be admitted only on the basis of the Combined Rank.
Reserved Category candidates will be considered on the basis of either
their Rank in the category or the Combined Rank subject to the conditions
spelt out in (7) below.
7. College allotment will be done as per the following modalities:
a. It will be done on a preference-cum-merit basis by going down the list
of candidates in the order of merit for each mode of admission (i.e.
Direct and Entrance) and each category(i.e. SC, ST, etc.) and in
accordance with the choices indicated by the candidate in the
Preference Form that has been filled online.
b. A candidate who is eligible for admission through both Direct
Admission and Admission through Entrance will be allotted a
college under whichever mode that enables him/her to get the higher
preference number. In case a candidate is getting the same preference
in both the modes of admission, that candidate will be considered to
have taken admission in the Direct mode.
c. General Category candidates will be allotted colleges only on the basis
of the Combined Rank.
d. Reserved category candidates who meet the eligibility criteria of the
General Category shall be treated as General unless it enables them to
get a college of higher preference. That is to say, reserved category
candidates are eligible to be considered for seat allotment on the
basis of their Category Rank as well as Combined Rank. However,
allotment will be under the category that enables the candidate to get
his/her highest preference. In case a candidate is getting the same
preference under both the categories, that candidate will be
considered under the General Category (and not under the reserved
category).
e. For each candidate, if seats are not available in the college with the
highest preference, he/she will be waitlisted for that college, and the
next preference will be considered. This exercise will continue till the

candidate can be accommodated in any of the colleges that have been

listed.
f. Seat that falls vacant due to a candidate not taking admission or
withdrawing admission will be allotted in the next round of
counseling to the candidates who are waitlisted. Therefore,
candidates who have been allotted a college of their lower preference
are required to indicate at the time of counseling whether they want
to be considered for the colleges of their higher preference in case
seats are vacant. Such seats will be notified in the Department
website and allotted only with the next round of allotment.
g. The candidates who cannot get a seat in any of the colleges listed by
them will be required to report on the day of the counseling as per
their rank. Such candidates may be accommodated in the seats
remaining vacant after that particular round of allotment. No
allotment that has already been made shall be disturbed for the sake
of such candidates.
h. If there is a tie between more than one candidate for a seat in a
particular college (by virtue of them having the same rank in the
Entrance or BA Honours marks), the candidate who has indicated the
higher preference for that particular college will be considered first.
The claim of the candidate who has indicated a lower preference will
be considered only if seats are vacant after the candidate who had the
higher preference is accommodated. However, if such candidates
have given the same rank for the particular college in question, they
will be allotted that particular college regardless of the number of
seats available.
i. Queries regarding college allocation can be addressed to
maenglishadmission2015@gmail.com. (Please note that queries
regarding any matter other than college allotment will not be
entertained.)
