Digipak planning and

construction

Planning

The first thing i did when i

started planning for my
digipak was to find a
template. I found a website
that i could look at, and
downloaded a template, of
which i put it onto
Photoshop. I chose to use a
6 panel and one tray
digipak.

From the list of templates found on the design templates page, identify and download the correct template to your
computer. You can download the template by right clicking on the appropriate template and selecting "save target
as...", or "save link as....

It is recommended that
you save the file as a
PDF. This will ensure that
the fonts will remain
vector and embedded in
the final PDF file.

When you open the template in Photoshop, you will be presented with
a dialog window to set how the PDF template opens. Use the following
settings when opening any of the templates. Main thing is to make sure
the resolution is at 300dpi, and that the colour scheme is CMYK.

Digipack influences

As you can see the design of this digipak is erupting with conventions and features of a rock genre of music, the
design of this digipak is a shot of all five of the performers that are in the band and then it looks like the image has
been Photo shopped. This cover has a black and white / greyscale shot of the band and then there is splatters of
blood behind the name and logo of the band, the bands name and logo is a dull gold so it stands out and this is the
same for all of the text, the stance and positioning of the band is also typical of a rock genre as the lead singer is at
the front and then all of the musicians are standing behind and this shows the power that the lead singer has.
Here is a list of all of the conventions that the digipak
follows: the name of the band is shown on the front cover,
list of the songs and other extras are listed on the back of
the digipak, there is a brief and basic description of the
band inside the digipak, there are reviews of that album
inside the digipak, the design suits the genre of music, the
colour scheme suites both the bands name and the genre
of music, the font of the text suites the rock genre, the
company that has made the digipak have their logo and
name on the digipak and the digipak has a simple
design, the artists in the portraits of them look like they are
rock stars and there are pictures of previous CD album
covers.

Minor post production changes

1

There's not much difference between these pictures but if you look closely, the second pictures got
this canvas like effect. This was added to make it look a bit rough to appeal to my genre, In addition
it also implies how his like is like a painting and he has no control over it.

RED MERCURY
RED MERCURY

I designed the front of my digipak to mimic the magazine advertisement. i did this to create a link between the
two products. The band name and album title are placed on the font cover with the same font style used in my
magazine advert. This also created a synergy between my products. The record label company logo used is
identical to the one we used on the magazine advertisement. I felt this was important as the record label would
need to be represented and the placing looks smart and professional.
