Local Development Plan

Newsletter 34 April 2016

Welcome to the East Dunbartonshire Council LDP newsletter. These newsletters
are designed to keep you up-to-date with the latest news on our Local
Development Plan, as well as highlighting how the LDP ties in with other key
work streams being delivered by the Council.

Local Development Plan - Update

The proposed Local Development Plan, and all associated documentation, was
submitted to the Scottish Government for Examination on Thursday 17th December
2015. Examinations are intended as the principle means of independently
examining any unresolved issues arising from representations on the proposed
LDP. Two reporters have been appointed to examine the proposed Plan (Case Ref:
LDP-200-2), full details of which can be viewed on the examination website via the
following link:
http://www.dpea.scotland.gov.uk/CaseDetails.aspx?id=117188&T=0
Under Regulation 22 of the Town and Country Planning (Development Planning)
(Scotland) Regulations 2008, the appointed reporter(s) can request, by way of
notice, further information in connection with the examination. To date, the
Council has received notice of six further information requests, details which are
available to view on the examination web page as referred to above.
At present the reporters are confident of submitting the report of examination on
or before the target date of 16th September 2016.

Economic Development Strategy 2017 We Want

Your Views
East Dunbartonshire Community Planning Partnership has a strategy for
expanding the economy and improving opportunities by supporting businesses,
town and village centres, tourism and more.
The current Economic Development Strategy - covering 2013-2016 - has three
strategic priorities in East Dunbartonshire:
Supporting business growth
Supporting the growth of town and village centres, and tapping into
tourism and leisure assets
Economic recovery and growth, and providing access to employment

The Council is currently leading research to review and update the plan for 2017.
A survey is now available online.

It is vital to get the views of local residents, community groups, businesses

and partner organisations to ensure that our priorities and action plan for
the next strategy reflect the needs of the area and are as up to date as
possible. The survey has been designed to find out more about the usage of
various attractions and assets in the area, retail habits and what people
envisage for the East Dunbartonshire economy.
"Businesses are being asked about their client base and use of support
services locally. Information gathered at the recent tourism workshop will
also be a key factor - focusing on the tourism potential of the area and
collaborative working.
"The survey will be available until Friday 29 April and I would urge everyone
with an interest in the East Dunbartonshire economy to take part. It's
important to emphasise that the Economic Development Strategy is not
solely a Council document - it involves a range of partners - working
together towards a bright and vibrant future for East Dunbartonshire."
The Council is a key member of the East Dunbartonshire Economic Partnership,
along with Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Small Businesses,
Scottish Enterprise, Department for Work and Pensions, Skills Development
Scotland, East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action and Visit Scotland.

Supplementary Guidance
Following the submission of the Proposed Plan to Scottish Ministers in December
2015 the Land Planning Policy team is now moving forward with the production of
Supplementary Guidance on Design & Placemaking and Developer Contributions.
This is part of the wider programme of Supplementary and Planning Guidance that
will accompany the Local Development Plan.
Supplementary Guidance is statutory in nature and forms part of the development
plan. Planning Guidance is non-statutory and is a material consideration in
determining planning applications. Supplementary Guidance and Planning
Guidance will be produced throughout the financial years 2015/16 and 2016/17.
Please note that the current suite of Guidance Notes will remain in force until they
are replaced.
