The wall thickness of the tube debermines its

from the outside diameter.

Aluminum alioy and stainless steel have almost

Most of Lhecricicalfluid lines in our modern aircraft are fabricatedat the faclory and have all of
, the neiessary bends made and ali of the proper
end-fittings installed. These lines are specified
and identifiedby their part number. It is extremelf important, when replacipg a fluid line, to"use
only a line having the same part number.as that
originally installed. If a line must be made up in
the shop, lhe aircraft manufacturer can provide
informaLionregarding the material of which the
line is made. Aircraft tubine is normaliv ideny

Fabricating Rigid Tubing

Cutting

After the correel length of tubing is defermined,

it shouid be cut off square with a roller-typetubing cutter, such as the one in Fig. 3-3.This type of
culter supportsthe tube on hardenedsLeelroilers,
while-agharp sieel cutting wheelis screweddown
against lhe tube. The cutter is rocaLedaround the
tube, and as the biade culs into the metal, it is
turned down further into the lube. This type of
cu[ter produces a cutoff that is smooth and
square, but it does leave burrs inside of the tube.
These burrs must be completely removed with
the reamer blade on the cutter, or with a special
reamer such as the one seenin Fig. 3-a.T_gglg g!

If no tubing cutter is available. a fine-tooth

hacksaw can be used. Be sure to use a blade
whose teeLh are fine enough that at least two
teeth will be on each wall of the tube at all times.
