Dr.

Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor

Bless the Little Ones

You probably know that after 20 years of faithful service as

Preschool Director, Mrs. Beverly Burgoyne will be leaving
our staff after Vacation Bible School. She and her husband,
Paul, will be moving near her children in upstate Florida
where she may be involved in teaching in some capacity.
Beverly came to our church at an incredibly crucial time
as we were reaching young families and doing everything
possible to meet needs with limited space and resources.
Many lives have been touched by her ministry. She will
continue to work full-time on our staff until late June. We are beginning an
immediate search around the country for the right leader in this position.
A recent survey by LifeWay Christian Resources President, Thom Rainer, is
very enlightening. He noted how we often do not notice issues around our
homes, which need attention until a handyman arrives. He looks at your house
through outside eyes. A clear pattern has emerged concerning those who visit
churches as first-time guests. Certain areas are of particular interest and make
or break their decision about further involvement.
Visiting parents look closely at preschool and nursery services and facilities.
They want to know if their children will be safe and treated with love and
tenderness. Are the workers concerned and qualified? How do they know that
a stranger will not come in and pick up their child? Also, 100% of female guests
who were interviewed expressed concerns about womens restrooms. They
notice matters of cleanness, convenience, and capacity.
Parking is also vital, as guests notice the difficulty or ease of finding a parking
spot, covered drop-offs, reserved places for guests, young or expectant
mothers, or handicap parking spaces. Signage and adequate information
access is on the list. First time folks are often intimidated by a campus of any
size, so worship seating is scrutinized. Can they find a place to sit as quickly as
possible? Do regular attenders move to the middle of the seat rows so guests
do not have to climb over them? Are ushers and greeters available? Do they
make a good first impression?
Though these areas were not mentioned in Dr. Rainers survey, I would add
that even friendliness, warmth, and the presence of the Lord, can be felt by
unbelieving visitors. We will continue to try to improve the total ministry to
children, custodial maintenance, parking, guest connection, seating, as well
as signage and various information points. Lets do all that we can to love and
reach individuals and families. May all who attend say, Surely the Lord is in this
place. This is none other than the house of God (Genesis 28:16, 17).

*There is a guest reception in the Commons following the Saturday night and
Sunday morning 11:00am worship services. Pastor would love to meet you!
