6.1 Title: Configuration of FTP services for quick availability of necessary files.
6.2 Objective:
On completion of this visit/ practical exercise, the participant will be able to:
a) Understand Internet Information Services too and its installation.
b) How to configure FTP services using IIS tool .
6.3 Venue/Site: BSNL Telecom Training Centre
[*In training locations where the required equipment / set-up is not available, the
same will be carried out through field visit]
6.4 Set up/Equipments Required:
a) Desktop/Laptop (is called system hereafter) with specification required for
Windows 7 standard or above operating system.
b) LAN connectivity for that desktop/laptop.
6.5 Reports to be taken/ referred

6.6 Exercise:
6.6.1. Verify whether IIS tool is present in your system :a) Select control panel.
b) When control panel window is opened, ensure that View By  Classic is selected.
c) Select Administrative Tools option.
d) Find the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager tool in the list.
e) If you dont have the tool, then go to step 6.6.2 or else directly follow step 6.6.3.
6.6.2. Install IIS tool :a) Select control panel.
b) Select the Programs and Features option.
c) In the left panel of opened window, select Turn Windows Features on or off.
d) Find the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager tool in the opened list.
e) Click on + sign before Internet Information Services feature.
f) Select + sign before FTP services.

g) Select FTP Extensibility & FTP service.


6.6.3. Getting started with configuration of FTP services :a) Select control panel.
b) Select Administrative Tools option.
c) Select Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager tool in the list.
d) In the left panel, click on symbol

before the name of your system.

e) In the suboptions opened below, right click Sites option.


f) Select Add FTP Site..
g) Give any arbitrary site name e.g. Test1
h) Give the physical path or location of folder, where the files will be stored. Say
c:\inetpub\ftproot. Click Next.
i) Select the IP address for the FTP server from the drop down list.
j) Give the port number to your FTP site which is normally port 21 for FTP
services in internet. However other port numbers can also be given for services
within Local Area Network.
k) Ensure Start FTP site automatically is selected.
l) Select No SSL and click next.
m) Select the type of authentication i.e anonymous and ensure read permission is
selected.
n) Click Finish.
6.6.4. Testing the FTP services :a)

Open the browser.

b)

Give address in address bar as ftp://<ip address>.

c)

If properly configured, you will get the list of files available in location
c:\inetpub\ftproot.

d)

Right click any file and click save as..

e)

Select the location where the file needs to be downloaded and click ok.

f)

The file gets downloaded on the given location.

6.6.5. Give port number other than 80 in IIS and try to access the FTP site. Find how can
the site be available in this case ?

6.6.6. Change the IP address of the system and check whether it is reflected in the IIS
tool.
