IMMIGRATION SYNTHESIS

Introduction
Many questions have been raised concerning immigration. It is a matter of deep concern
to millions of people and a subject of strong and intensive debate. It covers wide aspects that
comprise of economic factors, laws and stereotypes, and children. Different sources have
analyzed the issue of immigration in a similar manner with minor variations in their analysis. In
migration policy debates by (Boubtane& Dumont, 2013) the writings looks at the evidence of
how immigrants affect the economy in three main areas which are the labor market, the
economic growth, and the public purse. Another source, The Economic Benefits of
Immigration by Diana Furchgott-Roth describes the link between the growth of economy and
immigration. The Economic Benefits of Immigration by Giovanni Peri is another important
source, and it is concerned with the issue of immigration been formidable engine of the
demographic and growth of United States and there are other sources which addresses this issue.
Body
Economy
Immigration has an effect on the economy, according to (Peri, 2012). Immigration has
always for a long period contributed substantially by providing labor for industrialization in the
United States. United states has the largest number of international immigrants and a large
number of people willing to migrate to if they had opportunity this can bring stronger
opportunities to the economy growth in that country. In a similar opinion on the issue of
economic growth due to immigration is (Diana, 2013). According to her, by embracing more
flexible legal system of immigration can have positive impact on the growth of the economy. The
economic growth can be as a result of the reduction of labor shortages in the markets.

Migrants contribute significantly to the labor-market flexibility most notably in the

Europe. This immigrant usually fills the important niche in the fast growing and the declining
sector of the economy too. These immigrants usually boost the working-age population since
they arrive with skills that help them in contributing to the human capital development and the
immigrants also contributes to the technological progress (Boubtane& Dumont, 2013). Likewise,
there is the issue of the highly educated immigrants contributing to innovation, having advanced
countries like the United States attracting and training new engineers and scientist as the key to
continued economic success (Peri, 2015). In the US, the educated immigrants account for about
one-third of the innovation in the US. Is there a downside of immigration?
On contrary to having immigrants contributing to economic growth in developing
countries, these immigrants usually contributes more in taxes and in the social contributions than
they usually receive in benefits. The labor immigrants usually have the most positive impact on
the public sector (Butane& Dumont, 2013).

According to (Butane& Dumont , 2013),

immigrants arriving in the foreign countries usually arrive with skills and contribute to the
human capital development of the migrated country , they also points out having the young
immigrants being better educated, however (Peri, 2009) points out the overall proportion of the
college-educated immigrants being similar to that of the native people.
Law
While addressing the issue of immigration there is the issue of law, this is the government
policies that usually control the portent of immigration into their countries (Massey &D. S.
2010). This immigration law usually varies from one country to another; these laws regarding the
citizens of any country are usually regulated by the international law. Some countries usually
have the strict law that regulates the entry rights, the duration of stay in the country and the right

of participation in the government affairs. According to (Giovanni, 2009) if the immigration

flows may be managed in an efficient and flexible way it would bring stronger opportunities for
the growth of the economy in the U.S. These immigration laws are outdated, rather restrictive
and cumbersome too. The immigration laws have largely limited immigration in in-service
reasons; this is in both the highly educated usually the scientist and the engineers and in the less
educated usually the construction and the personal service employees. Similarly (Diana, 2013)
addresses the issue on how the current immigration law has inhibited positive development this
is largely due to opposition to immigration based on the false premises. There is opposition from
the American anti-immigrant groups due to the fear that there is the possibility of driving the
native-born workers out of their jobs.
Growth-oriented immigration rules and policies are essential in allowing a greater number of
immigrants to legally enter, work and stay in the United States. Immigration policies should
focus on the need to increase the economic growth by a way of admitting the higher number of
immigrants who have advanced level of education who have attracted the domestic employers
(Diana, 2013). In the year 2013, the U.S senate passed the senate bill 744 that was concerned
with the border security, modernization and economic opportunity Act. This law addresses the
main issues in plaguing the United States system of immigration and it could also deal with the
problem of having undocumented immigrants. This is a law that has possible benefits for the
economy of the U.S. (Peri, 2016).

Lack of alignment between the restrictive laws and the economic incentives has resulted
in the expansion of undocumented immigrants in a rapid manner. These immigrants are usually
attracted by employment but they are unable to secure the legal permit, this population has added

up to 1.1 million people as they have rooted in the U.S despite having uncertainty and they lack
protection too. This problem of immigrants could be solved by passing senate bill that will be
concerned with border security (Giovanni, 2001). On the other hand, according to ( Diana ,
2013) , the issue of illegal migrants working in the U.S can be solved through the suggestion of
establishing a workplace verification system which will allow the employers to know whether
the potential employees have the rights of working in the United States.
Children
While addressing the issue of immigration, children are also a topic of concern.
Migration presents both opportunities and some challenges to the individuals and societies.
Though the economic factor is the main driver of immigration, migrating involve a diverse group
of people who may include women, men and children. The children may be affected by
migration in a different way. Some children may be left behind alone; other may migrate alone
without any guidance. Children who have migrated with their parents faces challenges such as
discrimination in the country of settlement , the

right of citizenship and also the challenge of

culture dislocation.
Discussion
When looking at the whole study, it is clear that immigration is an issue that has an effect
on the economy, law and children. As seen in the studies, immigrants affect the economy in three
main areas that are the labor market, the economic growth, and the public purse. There is a link
between the economic growth and immigration (Diana, 2013). The United States has a large
number of immigrants who contributes to economic growth through their offering labor services
and they bring innovation opportunities in the country of their migration (Boubtane& Dumont,

IMMIGRATION SYNTHESIS

2013). The issue of immigration is highly influenced by the need of people to migrate to new
countries for employment opportunities and the skills the people have. Though the immigrants
may have a chance of employment opportunity in the new country, contrary to this they usually
contribute more in taxes and in the social contributions than they usually receive in benefits. The
level of education and skills in the immigrants can be matched with that of the native people
though some of the immigrants are smart enough to contribute to one-third of innovation in the
U.S.
The issue of law and immigration usually go hand in hand; the government usually
implements laws that usually hinder illegal immigration. This law usually varies from one
country to another with some countries usually have a strict law which regulates the entry rights,
the duration of stay in the country and the right of participation in the.
