Brochure

Description:

A brochure for anyone interested in hiking.
Programs:

Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
Objectives:

Create a new, original brochure and logo, advertising to a group you choose.
Process:

First I drew out several different ideas for the brochure, playing around with font ideas and
how it would all work together. I then put in the basic information that I planned on using for the
final. I picked out my images and put them in different areas to see how they looked. I ended up
using the paragraph styles on my three sections. I changed the background colour several times,
and then had to change the text copy colour as well. I ended up using the same font for the titles
of the body copy that I had used in the views portion of my logo. With each print I tried to find
something wrong and fix it so that way it would look the best it could be.

Description:

A matching letterhead to the business card for a company of your choosing.
Programs:

Adobe Illustrator and InDesign
Objectives:

To make a matching letterhead and business card in order to gain more customers to
your chosen place.
Process:

First I began with playing around in Illustrator to find a shape that I liked. I ended up
on the touchscreen version of Illustrator and had a lot of fun drawing out shapes and seeing
them transform into perfect versions. As I was doing this, I drew a couple circles and the
idea for an owl hit me and I went from there. I first made the owl, then made it so it looked
like they overlapped and created the typical owl face. I added in a triangle for a beak and
moved it to the back to create the illusion of a beak. I then made it so the stroke was what
had the gold colour, making the background the colour of the business card. I then made
the letterhead, going off of what I already had. To add in the watermark, I took the owl and
lowered the opacity to 26% in InDesign. I then put the various pieces into InDesign and made
sure that it wasnt as pixelated as it had been before.

Description:

Blending two images together to create a spiritual feel to it.
Programs:

Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:

To blend two pictures together in order to create a spiritual theme.
Process:

I first cropped the original photo, getting rid of the logo that had been
in the lower left-hand corner. I also sharpened the image in order to make the
man stand out more. Then I opened a new Photoshop page and put in the
second picture, cropping the majority of the picture. Then I took the page of
Christ out from the main page and then dragged a copy of the image over
to the subway picture. After positioning it in the desired position, I messed
around with different opacities and size of brush in order to get rid of harsh
edges as well as to make the part of the second image more see through. I
then added in the text, playing around with different fonts as well as colours. I
wanted the two contrasting words to really pop out so you wanted to look at
the poster.

A black and white flier advertising a conference for graduated students.
Programs:

Adobe InDesign.
Objectives:

To advertise for a conference for graduating seniors.
Process:

I first began with creating a variety of sketches and seeing which one
I wanted to put my focus into. After I had chosen my layout, I used Adobe
InDesign to make the initial piece. I was given the content to put into the flier,
but I tried to emphasize not only one word, but also the title itself so as to draw
attention in and create a visual focus point. The picture was chosen to also gather
attention in. I did my best to balance the white space with the copy and aimed to
make it so that the copy was easy to read and see. I ended up creating the shape
involving the circles and rectangles to make the poster more exciting.

Creating a logo for a company.
Programs:

Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:

Use only Illustrator to create a logo for any company.
Process:

I played around for a little bit after coming up with the company name,
and ended up creating a flower sort of thing with the oval and star shapes on
Illustrator. I played around with the spacing to see how it looked with gardens
spread out with different spacing. I ended up playing around with the shapes
for the third logo, trying different shapes to see how it looked and the feeling it
conveyed.

To show understanding of how to blend photos in Photoshop.
Programs:

Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:

To show how we could change a picture in Photoshop and make it different.
Process:

I started off with the basic Photoshop changes, and then I also went in to
help make the contrasting colours between her dress, the leaves and the words. I
used the eye-dropping tool to pick out the colour from the leaves to help contrast
the two. I added in the boxes with the colours near the top and ended up putting
the words in as white because otherwise the clash would have made someone
blind.

Programs:
Word
Objectives:

To use only Word in order to create an advertisement.
Process:

I ended up scanning in an image and deleting the edges that had the pieces of another
picture in it. I tried a variety of ways to see how the picture would go best, and ended up using
it as the background. Then I added in several boxes and placed them on opposite ends of
the advert so that way you could see the majority of the bird in the background. Then I went
through and found two fonts I liked that contrasted.

A webpage for the company we made for our
Programs:

Notepad & Notepad++
Objectives:

To help learn the beginnings of programming and how it corresponds to design.
Process:

It was a bit difficult centering the image, but ultimately I managed it. It was
interesting using the validator because it wouldnt sense my css document at all, leading
me to find a different validator site in which it was able to help me to not only center my
image but also what exactly was wrong, instead of me having to guess. I went through
and did a very basic outline, for both documents, before adding in the details, I find that
to be the easiest way to write code. Getting the colour codes was actually pretty simple,
and I ended up just using the two main images-their codes where very simple so that
made it easier I thought. I ending up changing my two fonts to just one- PT Serif- from
Google fonts, I do miss the other ones, but I understand that if they arent available
online, then different fonts are required.
