April 2010

Africa to Asia
An insight into the ministry of LCMS missionary
Megan Birney serving Christ in Hong Kong

You have been more faithful...

April was filled to the brim with great events and happy times! I was blessed to
spend almost three weeks with my mom. We spent Resurrection Sunday at Holy
Word Lutheran Church with friends. After church we gathered together for an awe-
some dim sum lunch to celebrate such a happy day. The next day my mom, An-
drea, and myself headed to Thailand for a short holiday. We ventured to
Kanchanaburi to experience the wild side of central Thailand for two days. We rode
elephants, played with tigers, took a bamboo raft ride, saw a waterfall and ex-
plored the history of the Thailand-Burma Railway, constructed during WWII. We re-
turned to Bangkok and didn’t do much sightseeing but definitely felt like we experienc-
ing events that will later be in the history books. :) Our favorite part of the trip? Visiting
my friend and fellow LCMS missionary Sarah Longmire who works at CWEF Concordia’s
Day Care. For the last two years Sarah has been blessed to work with children in a small
area of Bangkok, loving them and telling them about Jesus and how He loves
them. It was incredible to experience the rich blessings of God’s work in Bangkok “There is a God that
for a day. Our safe arrival back in Hong Kong put us to work seeing the places and loves the whole wide
people we hadn’t connected with yet. It was awesome to have the opportunity to world, He sent His
take Mom to Church of All Nations to worship in English and meet everyone. On
the 13th with sad faces but joyful hearts, Mom returned to the States and I went

back to work as usual! Classes have been great. The kids at LSL have thoroughly lives, When we believe
enjoyed learning through their National Geographic magazines and singing songs with our whole heart,
about God’s amazing creations. We’re excited to see what new adventures the Trusting Him in faith,
May edition brings! My Saturday tutorial classes at Holy Cross Lutheran School He’ll forgive you, He’ll
have been so fun. I love having these two classes that find my goofiness so hilari-
save your life, and you
ous. May God continue to bless our time together. April also brought the product
of seven months of hard work… Noah’s Ark — The Musical : God Remembers! can be reborn.”
While Lynette and I only played a small part (angels/rainmakers), the students -God Remembers
put on a FABULOUS show! Those with internet access, see my blog for some
video footage! The students did an incredible job showing how Noah’s trust in
God helped save the world. Over one thousand people enjoyed the musical be-
tween the two performances including over
300 primary students!
May the witness of God’s faithfulness to
Noah be a blessing to those who are in
need of His saving grace.
