ABSTRACT

LISTENING TO VARIED VOICES IN UNDERSTANDING KEY FACET

OF SCHOOL COMMUNITY COLLABORATION FOR
STUDENT AND SCHOOL SUCCESS

Ritzy D. Mutia
This study aimed to determine various forms of school-community
collaboration among schools in the Department of Education Division of
Misamis Oriental. It is anchored on DepEds School-Based Management
(SBM) Framework which reflects the effort of the Department to
decentralize education management. This is a strategy that is expected
to improve the Departments operating efficiency through collaboration
with community and upgrade education quality. Data were gathered
using the interview survey subjected to qualitative analysis.
The salient findings of the study revealed that the school head
respondents collaborate with stakeholders and take a lead in the
implementation of the programs and projects which they think is needed
for their school. The respondents perceived that the collaboration made
with the students gives favorable outcomes to the students in their
respective schools. However, these kinds of outputs are not enough to
produce desired outcome of raising the students performance in the
National Achievement Test higher towards a very satisfactory one.
Based on the findings of the study, the following are
recommendations and doable activities that can be considered: A
training
design is highly recommended for the concerned school heads who
have no record on collaboration practices. School heads must present
the problems regarding the poor NAT result to all levels of the
department which they have equally important roles and functions that
support the sharing responsibility to improve the learning outcome of
the student.
