This is a complete revision. Replace the Revision 7 with this Revision 8.

Revision 8 removes power/accessory gearbox part numbers, drive gearshaft assembly
part numbers and changes the parts in the configuration charts.

Reason
The Spare Accessory Drive (Vacuum/Hydraulic Pump) is considered redundant if the drive is
not used on the Power and Accessory Gearboxes.

Description
The Spare Accessory Drive Gearshaft Assembly, its associated idler gear and bearings, shaft
seal, bearing cage and retaining pin and other detail parts of the installation, can be removed
from the gearbox cover assembly at customer option.

Approval
Technical aspects are FAA approved.

E.

Compliance
Compliance Code 7: Part A, (Removal of spare accessory drive gear), to be complied with per
customer option.
Compliance Code 4: Part B, to be complied with the next time the affected module or
component is at an authorized repair/overhaul facility and is disassembled.
- If Step 2.A. was complied with per a previous version of this CEB, and the bearing cage and
retaining pin were not removed at that time, then a 100 hour inspection for a loose cage or
retaining pin is required.
- If a loose cage or pin is found during that inspection then Part 2.B. is due immediately.
- Step 2.B. is due the next time the gearbox is opened, if Part 2.A. of this CEB has been
accomplished.

Not affected, except where the user's special application requires installation of the spare
accessory drive gear.

A.

Remove the Spare accessory Drive Gear.

NOTE:

During disassembly comply with appropriate removal, disassembly, cleaning,

inspection, removal of coating, plating, assembly and installation procedures (Ref
0/H).

Separate the engine compressor, gearbox and turbine modules.

(2)

Disassemble the gearbox (Ref. 0/H, OMM).

(3)

Delete Spare Accessory Drive Gear (Vacuum/Hydraulic Pump) from Power and Accessory
Gearbox (Ref. Fig. 1 and 2).

(4)

Do not install the following parts comprising the spare accessory drive gear installation
during assembly at overhaul or in the field when access to the interior of power and
accessory gearbox has been achieved.

BECAUSE OF THE COMPLEX MACHINING NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE

RETAINING PIN AND BEARING CAGE, THE STEPS THAT FOLLOW MUST BE
DONE AT A ROLLS-ROYCE AUTHORIZED OVERHAULJREPAIR FACILITY.
DAMAGE TO THE PART CAN OCCUR.

Remove bearing cage, its retaining pin and the spring pin (MS9047-065) at the gearbox cover
assembly spare accessory drive pad. (Ref. Fig. 3).
(1)

Do step 2. B. at the same time with step 2. A. If an older version of CEB 1165 was
completed and the bearing cage and its associated parts was not removed, then do step
2.B. at the next time the gearbox is opened.

(2)

Do a 100 hour repetitive inspection on engines with the bearing cage still installed as
follows:
(a)

Remove four washers and nuts then remove the spare accessory drive pad cover and
gasket. (Ref. Fig. 1).

(b)

Use a flashlight and inspection mirror to find the bearing cage and pin. (Ref. Fig. 3).

(c)

Examine the bearing cage for looseness. Examine the pin to make sure it is installed
and flush with the bearing cage inner diameter.

(d)

If the bearing cage is loose or if the pin is missing or not flush with the bearing cage
inner diameter, then send the accessory gearbox to a Rolls-Royce Authorized
Overhaul/Repair Facility for the accomplishment of step 2.8.

(e)

If the bearing cage and pin are satisfactory, install a new gasket, a serviceable cover
plate, and tighten with four washers and nuts. Torque the four nuts to 70.0-85.0 lb in.
(7.9-9.6 Nm) (Ref. OMM).

Use the vibro-peen and method 2D1 or 2E to write the CEB number (CEB 1165) on C20 or
(CEB 322) on C18 directly below the Gearbox Cover Assembly Part No. Paint
vibro-peened area per AMS 2510 using AMS 2475 treatment.

(2)

If service reidentifying the power and accessory gearbox cover assembly, use the
vibro-peen and method 2DI or 2E to write a line through previous part number, write the
new part number adjacent to previous number, and write the CEB number (CEB 1165) on
C20 or (CEB 322) on C18 directly below the new Gearbox Cover Assembly Part Number.
Paint vibro-peened area per AMS 2510 using AMS 2475 treatment.

D.

Comply with power and accessory gearbox assembly and test procedures (Ref. OMM).

E.

Record compliance with this commercial engine bulletin in the applicable section of the engine
logbook, gearbox assembly, Part Ill, Modification Record as applicable with the following:
