My thoughts on Global warming Not Cool

To think that scientists predicted the effects of global warming; to think that we once believed
them yet havent contributed anything to the issue; to think that they are somehow more
knowledgeable than the average man and to think that global warming isnt a rising issue is
ridiculous. Scientists have stated for longer than a century that humans have the largest effect on
the environment. Nevertheless, we have yet to realize that our actions are not only effecting the
climate but are essentially devastating. For example on the same date that this editorial was
written fifty six years ago the temperature in Toronto, Canada ranged from a maximum of -1.7
C to a minimum of -9.4 C. Today on March 9th 2016 the temperature in Toronto, Canada is an
astonishing 9 C. Climate change is the greatest man made crisis of our time which is responsible
for a number of environmental issues. It is also a crisis which threatens our health, communities,
economy, and national security.
According to the 2016 Global Risks Report from the World Economic Forums, failure
of climate change mitigation and adaptation ranks as the most impactful risk to society. This is
the first time in years that an environmental issue has made it to the top of the rankings. Climate
change mitigation and adaptation was also considered to have more prospective damage than
weapons of mass destruction (2nd), water crises (3rd), large-scale involuntary migration (4th) and
severe energy price shock (5th).
Global warming is an issue which should be very important to us. It has even been described as a
global catastrophe and a potential crisis. Although the most frightening aspect of global warming
is the fact that its an issue that not everyone is taking seriously. If scientists today were to warn
us about a large meteorite racing towards Earth, the concept would grasp the attention of the
world's leaders and receive a crucial and intensive response. In fact Climate change is similar to
"a giant asteroid that's on course to hit earth". And the longer we wait the more problematic and
expensive it becomes. It is a rising issue that the population is unaware of.
Over the course of thousands of years global climate has increased just a few degrees. Now the
global climate is projected to warm up a few degrees more. When the world is told the Earth
could warm almost as much as it has over the past 10,000 years, although at a much shorter rate
and with substantial consequences for society and the environment, action is actively repelled
due to significant costs or inconveniences attached to it. In fact the science behind global
warming which is in fact accurate is now being attacked by fossil fuel companies.
In my personal opinion, there is a crucial need for not only the world's most powerful individuals
but also the masses to actively take up this issue. There is a stigma that planning responses
towards the threat of global warming is being prevented because of financial impacts and or
inconvenience. This is a notion which many people have and is opinion which is flat out wrong.
In fact the idea of climate change and global warming must be acknowledged as the logical basis
of discussion instead of being a topic which is able to be debated. Furthermore there should be
greater public awareness on the topic and more effort should be made to be educated and
knowledgeable on the topic. I feel as if there is a limited understanding of the issues which occur

as a result of global warming such as rising sea levels due to thermal expansion, melting of
glaciers/ ice sheets, and warming of the ocean surface which leads to a system of increased
temperature.
Ultimately when there is to come a crisis as a result of global warming, disputing scientific
evidence will result pointless.
But will it also be too late?
