How to install the free Luminosity Masking panel

Please watch the installation instructions video (https://youtu.be/xW-rVqsM26Y) for a demonstration of the following
steps.
Installation option #1 (recommended for OSX users as easiest method: drag and drop JSXBIN into Photoshop):
1. Make sure that you have extracted the files from the download file. On OSX, this is the default when you double-click the file.
However, Windows users should right-click the .zip file to Extract All the contents. If you try to install from within the ZIP file, the
jsxbin file wont have access to the files it needs to install.
2. Open Photoshop
3. Close all open files (if you dont do this, you may see an error about parsing the file).
4. Drag the Install free Luminosity Mask Panel.jsxbin from your file browser to the blank background in Photoshop.
5. The installation process will now ask you to confirm that you have read and accept the terms and conditions. Once you click yes, you
should see a confirmation that the installation has completed.
6. Restart Photoshop
7. Click on Window/Extensions/ to open the panel. (Please note that the Extensions may be greyed out for the first couple seconds after
Photoshop launches, just escape out the menu and look again).
8. If the script ran but you are unable to open the panel, please find and email the file that was created on your desktop: Free
Luminosity Mask Panel install (ok to delete).log. This file contains information that I can use to help troubleshoot any issues you
might have using the jsxbin installer.

Installation option #2 (recommend for Windows users as elevated permissions are often needed: open JSXBIN from Photoshop menus):
Make sure that you have extracted the files from the downloaded ZIP file. On OSX, this is the default when you double-click the file.
However, Windows users should right-click the .zip file to Extract All the contents. If you try to install from within the ZIP file, the
jsxbin file wont have access to the files it needs to install.
Windows users: close Photoshop, then right-click the Photoshop icon and choose run as administrator/elevated. This is necessary to
give the JSXBIN script file the ability to move files from Photoshop. If you dont do this, you will likely get an error during installation
(9002).
In Photoshop, click File/Scripts/Browse (in Photoshop), navigate to the Install free Luminosity Mask Panel.jsxbin file you
extracted from the downloaded ZIP file and click Open. Please note that you must change the dropdown at the bottom of the
file open dialogue from JSX to JSXBIN in order to be able to find and select the file.
Restart Photoshop
Click on Window/Extensions/ to open the panel. (Please note that the Extensions may be greyed out for the first couple seconds after
Photoshop launches, just escape out the menu and look again).
If the script ran but you are unable to open the panel, you most likely did not Extract All the contents of the ZIP file in the first step.
Please do that and try again. You cannot just click into the ZIP file in Windows, as the required files wont be available to the installer.
If you are still unable to install, please find and email the file that was created on your desktop: Free Luminosity Mask Panel install
(ok to delete).log. This file contains information that I can use to help troubleshoot any issues you might have using the jsxbin
installer.

Manual Installation
Alternate option: If the automatic installation process does not work, you may manually install by following these instructions.
1. Inside the contents you downloaded, locate the panel folder that corresponds to your version of Photoshop
a. For Photoshop CS6, this is ASSETS/FLASH/ com.lummasksbenzcs6.ext
b. For Photoshop CC, CC 2014, or CC 2015, this is ASSETS/HTML/ com.lummasksbenz.ext
2. Copy or move this single folder to the location listed below (and be sure to delete any old copy of com. lummasksbenz.ext that is
already installed in that folder).
[Note: Do not open/rename/change the com.lummasksbenz.ext folder or its contents in any way. You should simply copy or
move the entire folder as noted above if doing a manual installation. Making any other changes will cause the digital security
signature to fail and the panel will not work. In newer versions of CC, you will get an error about the signature, in older versions and in
CS6, the panel will simply not show up under Window/Extensions. Also note that storing the files (after extraction from the ZIP) in a
cloud service such as Google Drive may also invalidate the signature. If you have any question/concern, just extract all the files again
from the original ZIP file you downloaded. ]
Installation locations for manual install / uninstall:
The following folders are the default path where Photoshop panels are located:
ForOSX/Mac(where~istheuserfolderand/orrootfolder,dependingonwhetheryouwishtoinstallforallusersorjustaspecificuser):
o PhotoshopCS6:/Applications/AdobePhotoshopCS6/Plugins/Panels/
o PhotoshopCC:~/Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/CEPServiceManager4/extensions/
o PhotoshopCC2014/15:~/Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/CEP/extensions/

ForWindows(wherethefirstfolderisinstalledforallusers,andthesecondforaspecificuser):
o PhotoshopCS6:C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\CommonFiles\Adobe\CS6ServiceManager\extensions\
and/orC:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CS6ServiceManager\extensions\
o PhotoshopCC:C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\CommonFiles\Adobe\CEPServiceManager4\extensions\
and/orC:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CEPServiceManager4\extensions\
o PhotoshopCC2014/15:C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\CommonFiles\Adobe\CEP\extensions\
and/orC:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CEP\extensions

Note that Windows users may need to click View/Hidden Items in the File Explorer to see the (hidden) App Data folder.
Troubleshooting:
If you dont see the panel under Window/Extensions, please make sure "load extension panels" is checked in Preferences/Plug-Ins.
If you get an error about the panel not being properly signed, please reinstall. This error indicates that something in the panel folder
was changed. Please re-extract the files from the downloaded ZIP file and install again, taking care not to change anything inside the
source folder (if manually installing, just copy or move that entire high level folder).
If you are using Windows and get an error about installation failed / permissions, you may need to give Photoshop administrative
permissions to run the jsxbin file. Run Photoshop as administrator (right click Photoshop icon and "run elevated"), then execute the
jsxbin installer by using the menu install method (the drag and drop method will not work when you run elevated, due to Windows
security settings).

Update Photoshop to the latest version (Help / Updates)

If using Extension Manager, make sure you have the latest version and are using Extension Manager CS6 for Photoshop CS6 and
Extension Manager CC for Photoshop CC or later. For Photoshop CC or newer, install Extension Manager CC from the Creative Cloud
installer. For Photoshop CS6, install Extension Manager CS6. Note that Extension Manager does not support CC 2015.

The actions:
The actions are completely optional, as the panel now contains all the code needed to create the luminosity
masks. The panel is tested to work with Photoshop CS6 through CC 2015. If you are able to run the panel in
older versions of Photoshop, please let me know.
If you are unable to wish the panel or just prefer to use actions, double-click the Free Luminosity Masks (Greg
Benz).atn file inside the Actions folder. This will install the actions.
Click Window/Actions in Photoshop and look for Free Luminosity Masks (Greg Benz)
