The meaning of Easter
Easter
What does it mean to
you?
Answer:
For Pastor April
The meaning of Easter
for me is centered on
Christs victory over the
grave. His resurrection
symbolizes the eternal
life that is granted to all
who believe in Him. If He
had not risen from the
dead, if He had merely

We Want To Hear From YOU!

Our Staff Parish Team is getting ready to complete the Pastoral Assessment. This
assessment is designed to encourage excellence in and accountability for ministry by
pastors / lay ministers and to assist the district superintendent in effective supervision of the pastors and better understanding of the mission field. With that before
us, we SPRC (Staff Parish Relations Committee) need to hear from as many of you in
our church family as possible in the next couple of weeks. Please tell us the good,
the great, the mediocre and the not-so-great. Remember, the counsel of Holy
Scripture is 'to speak the truth in love.'
Of course the very best way to share with an SPRC member is directly and in
person. Thank you for your help! We'll be listening.

A Fools Holiday
An atheist became
incensed over the
preparation for Easter.
He decided to contact
his lawyer about the
discrimination inflicted
on atheists by the constant celebrations afforded to Christians and Jews
with all their holidays
while atheists had no
holiday to celebrate.
The case was brought
before a wise judge.
After listening to the long
passionate presentation
by the lawyer, the Judge
banged his gavel and
declared "Case
dismissed!"
The lawyer immediately stood and objected to
the ruling and said,
"Your honor, how can
you possibly dismiss this
case? The Christians
have Christmas, Easter
and many other observances. Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and
Hanukkah...yet my client
and all other atheists
have no such holiday!"
The judge leaned
forward in his chair and
simply said, "Obviously
your client is too confused to even know
about, much less celebrate his own atheists'
holiday!"
The lawyer pompously
said, "Your Honor, we are
unaware of any such
holiday for atheists. Just
when might that holiday
be, your Honor?"
The judge said, "Well it
comes every year on
exactly the same date--April 1st! Since our calendar sets April 1st as 'April
Fools Day,' consider that
Psalm 14:1, Psalm 53
states, 'The fool says in
his heart, there is no
God.' Thus, in my opinion,
if your client says there is
no God, then by scripture
he is a fool, thus April 1st
is his holiday! Get it?"

UPCOMING EVENTS
How to become a member....
You are welcome to attend worship services, member or not. For
that matter, you can attend any
activity of the church and are
invited to do so. Becoming a
member is, in faith, saying you
want a deeper commitment to the
church. Our vows ask us to faithfully participate in the life of the
church with our prayers, our
presence, our gifts, our service
and our witness.
We hope you will be a part of
the ministry of the First United
Methodist Church. If you would
like to become a member, please
give us: Name(s), address, phone
number, e-mail address, anniversaries, birthdays and if you are
already a member of some other
church or not. If you are, we also
need the name of the church and,
if possible, the address. Please
give this to the pastor, or leave in
the church office.
