Dressmaking

Dressmaking is defined as the craft of sewing clothes and dresses. An example of


dressmaking is the art of sewing a beautiful dress from fabric.

Tools & Equipment


A. Measuring Tools:

Tailor's square - A 14x24 inch metal


ruler with two arms that form 90 degree
angle and a scale on back and side. It
simultaneously measures, rules and
squares. To find 45 degree angle, mark
outside and inside corners then extend lines
through corners.

Vary form curve - For blending and


shaping armholes and necklines.

Foot rule - A wood or metal 12 inch


straight ruler use to mark straight lines.

Tape measure - A 60 or 72 inch metaltipped,linen, or plastic. For measuring form or


figure.

French curve - Is one of several


curves used for shaping armholes and
necklines.

B. Marking Tools:

Tailor's chalk - Black,white and yellow, used for


marking fabric (available in wax and clay).

Marking pens - for marking paper pattern.

Pencils - number 2hb if possible, for


marking in pattern making.

C. Cutting Tools:

Paper shears - used for cutting paper


or pattern paper.

Seam ripper - used to rip or open seams.

Fabric shears - used to cut fabrics only not


to messed up the shears.

Finishing shears - used to clean threads


on a finish garment safely.

Razor blade - used for opening seams or


cutting.

Pinking shears - can be used to fabric as


an edger if zigzager machine is not
available.

D. Sewing, Stitching and Tools:

Colored threads - threads come in various


colors. Make sure that you have the correct
thread color for the dress you are going to
sew.

Machine needles - these


sizes depending on what
be using. They should be
your sewing machine.

Hand needles - a long slender tool with a


pointed tip.

Safety pins - a variation


which includes a simple
mechanism and a clasp.

Pin cushion - used in sewing to store pins

Municipality of Pagbilao

Pagbilao is a first class municipality in the province of Quezon, Philippines. According


to the 2010 census, it has a population of 65,996 people. It is located on the northern shore of Tayabas
Bay on Luzon, just east of Lucena City, the provincial capital.

The Municipality of Pagbilao rests in the province of Quezon, region 4, and has a total
land area of 17,760 hectares. Pagbilao focuses its development goals and objectives as an agricultural
municipality but opening its horizon to industries taking into consideration the sustainability of services.
Cultural, social and religious legacies will be preserved. Economic activities geared towards total
development will be enhanced.

The Municipality of Pagbilao is subdivided into 27 barangays. 6 compose the center of


the city wheras the other 21 are in the outlying areas. Some of them are even several kilometers away
from the center of the Municipality. The most populous are Tukalan, Antipolo, Ilayang Bagumbungan,
Ibabang Bagumbungan, Aato, Ilayang Palsabangon, Mayhay, Bigo, Kanluran Malicboy, Barangay 1
Castillo (Pob.), Barangay 5 Santa Catalina (Pob.), Barangay 3 Del Carmen (Pob.), Barangay 6 Tambak
(Pob.), Bantigue, Ilayang Polo.
