INTRODUCTION
Airway mode of transportation always been used because it is efficient, fast and high security.

Air transportation used to transport or deliver some time sensitive cargo such as perishable goods and
also dangerous goods.

However, air transportation can give several impact to the environment.

A REVIEW OF THE ENVIRONMENT IMPACT;

CASE STUDY OF AIRFREIGHT TRANSPORT OF FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
Carbon emissions associated with fruit and vegetables depends on how much it is
being air freighted. (DEFRA, 2007)
The study calculated the energy and emission impact for supply apples by airfreight
to North American and Brixton is quite high. (Jones, 2002)
The higher the energy produced by these perishable goods, the larger the amount of
carbon dioxide produced. (Vringer and Bloks, 2000)
However, Kenyan grown roses air freighted to Europe still consumed less energy than
Dutch grown roses (Vringer and Bloks, 2000)
As the summary, the percentage of carbon dioxide emits by using carga
transportation is higher than the other mode of transportation.
Thus, it will lead to the greenhouse effect which harmful to the environmental
health and to the people surrounding.

POLICY AND REGULATION

There are few policy measures that could be use to reduce emission and can be implemented through cooperation parties.
They are:

Carbon taxes: tax based on greenhouse gas emissions generated from burning fuels
pays for the negative externalities ; implement at Sweden

Carbon labelling: labelling manufactured products and food with their contributions to climate changed
Current Carbon Trust label require that reduction in carbon to keep the label

Carbon offsetting: reduction in emission of carbon dioxide of greenhouse gases made to compensate or to offset
an emission made elsewhere

EFFECT OF AIRFREIGHT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

Air transportation can emit 10 times more CO2 per tonne of air freight than transport by ship over the same
direction which can

depleted the ozone layer and can caused skin cancer.

The further that goods has travelled, the more energy is consumed, the more greenhouse gases are produced and
released to the environment and the greater the impact of the environment which will

cause climate change.

Air freight also contribute to contrails. The net effect of these contrails is to trap heat that would otherwise
escape from the Earth, which

contributes to global warming.

Aircraft noise and sonic booms have been implicated as a cause of

animals (Manci, Gladwin, Villella, and Cavendish, 2010)

Thats all. Thank you :)
