Choose a Data Storage Method


YoucanconfiguretheDataCollectortostoredatainanexternaldatabaseorinan
embeddeddatabaseonthefilesystemofthehostserver.
Choosetheoptionthatismostappropriateforyourenvironment:

Externaldatabase:Ifyoudecidetouseanexternaldatabase,selectthesupported
databasetypethatbestsuitsyourneeds.SeeDataCollectorRequirementsonpage 3for
alistofsupporteddatabasetypes.
EnterpriseManagerusesadatabaseadministratoraccounttocreateadatabaseuser
namedcompmsauserandadatabasenamedcompmsadb,whichusesacustomschema.

Embeddeddatabase:Ifyouchoosetousetheembeddeddatabase,theDataCollector
canonlyretain30daysworthofdata,andthedatabasesizecannotexceed2GB.
Note: Theembeddeddatabaseisnotrecommendedforaproduction
environment.

Prepare a Microsoft SQL Server Database


SetuptheMicrosoftSQLServerdatabaseorMicrosoftSQLServerExpressdatabaseforthe
DataCollector.
1 Ifnecessary,installthedatabasesoftware.
2 Makesureyouhavethecredentialsforadatabaseadministratoraccountwith
privilegesequivalenttothedefaultsaaccount.
3 Configurethedatabaseformixedmodeauthentication(SQLServerandWindows
Authenticationmode).
4 StarttheSQLServerConfigurationManagerapplication.

Prepare a MySQL Database


SetupthedatabasepermissionsfortheDataCollector.
1 Ifnecessary,installthedatabasesoftware.
2 Makesurethatyouhaveadministratorrightsfromremoteservers(preferablyroot
user).
3 MakesurethedatabaseadminuserhastheglobalCREATEUSER,RELOAD,and
SELECTpermissions,andhasfullpermissionstothecompmsadbdatabase.

EnterthefollowingcommandsfromtheMySQLadmintool,whererootisthenameof
theadminuser:
grant create user, reload, select on *.* to 'root'@'%';
grant all privileges on compmsadb.* to 'root'@'%' with grant option;
flush privileges;

Install the Java Runtime Environment


TheEnterpriseManagerDataCollectorandEnterpriseManagerClientrequiretheJava
RuntimeEnvironment(JRE).SeeDataCollectorRequirementsonpage 3fortheJRE
versionrequirement.

2 UnzipandlaunchtheEnterpriseManagerDataCollectorSetupfile.TheInstallShield
Wizardappears.
3 ClickNext.TheLicenseAgreementpageappears.
4 ReadthelicenseagreementandthenclickYestoacceptit.TheSetupStatuspage
appearsanddisplaysinstallationprogress.Wheninstallationiscomplete,the
InstallShieldWizardCompletepageappears.
5 ClickFinish.TheEnterpriseManagerDataCollectorSetupwizardappears.
