Chapter 4 ANALYSIS, PRESENTATION AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

PATTS College of Aeronautics offers different programs in

aviation. Aviation is all about the design, development, production,
operation and use of aircraft. Students are the people behind it.
They are being prepared how to repair and maintain aircrafts and
its engines. Also, they are learning how to service landing gear
systems and electronic instruments. They are studying to build and
restore airframes and propeller blades.
We gathered survey from the students of PATTS. 60% from
the students of BS AeroE and BS AMT state that they had a
background in aviation. 31% says no they havent. And 9% replies
that maybe they have a background in aviation. AERO and AMT are
different in terms of specialization in aviation. AERO focuses on the
aircraft design and AMT centres on maintaining and repairing the
aircraft.

Most aircrafts use jet fuel, which is similar in properties to

kerosene. Combustion in an aircraft jet engine produces the same
suite of emissions as cars. Aircraft produce a relatively high amount
of NOX due to the high combustion temperature in jet engines.
Aircraft emissions are unique in that a significant proportion of
emissions take place at high levels in the atmosphere. This creates
some unique concerns as the aircraft emissions contribute to the
formation of contrails and high cirrus clouds which can contribute to
global warming.

Chapter 4 ANALYSIS, PRESENTATION AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

Many people are concern about our environment. We asked
PATTS students from BS AeroE and BS AMT regarding aircraft engine
emission pollution. 78% of them are aware of aircraft engine.
Meaning, students are responsive in aircraft engine and the
pollution it gives on our environment. In the near future these
students who are aware in the aircraft engine will create a better
solution to reduce the aircrafts engine pollution.

Chapter 4 ANALYSIS, PRESENTATION AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

It shows that mostly of the respondents are far from the

airport terminals. Their accessibility to the infrastructure is very
minimal. The result interprets that the location of the terminal is not
good for maximizing its profit.
If considering relocating such infrastructure and is moved
to another location, safety of the terminal and also its aircraft is in
jeopardy. We have to consider many safety precautions before
transferring. This is why most airport terminals are near the sea
only since if there are problems in the aircraft and emergency
landing is needed to be done. Safety of the public and its
surroundings are its priority.

majority of the students under the courses of BS Aeronautical

with the different pollutions affecting our environment attributed by
the aircrafts. However, several of the students are still not aware
regarding these pollutants.
It also shows that there is such curiosity in these students.
This curiosity may become the stepping stone on probably

Chapter 4 ANALYSIS, PRESENTATION AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

The environments condition is important because as

humans, the environment-the Earth-is our home. It is where we live,
breathe, eat, raise our children, etc. But with the current events
happening with the world right now we can see that its condition
gets worsen. With this question that we put in the survey, we intend
to know whether the respondents have that knowledge about the
present environments condition.
From the gathered data we acquired from 100 respondents
from aircraft maintenance and aeronautical engineering students,
59% of them answered Yes, 21% of them answered No and by
difference of 1% some of them answered Maybe which is 20% of
the respondents. We, researchers, analysed that majority of the
respondents knew what the current situation of our environment is
and we think that this data is important, for us to conclude that we
need the change like the aircraft engines emission waste to adapt
to the current dilemma in our surroundings.

Climate change is the significant change in weather over

an extended period of time. It is unavoidable act of nature due to
certain circumstances. This question in the survey aims to know
whether the respondents have some background about it and try to
able to justify how aircrafts engine can positively lessen the
situational crisis which is climate change.
From the collected figures we got from our respondents
from aircraft maintenance and aeronautical engineering students, a
whopping 86% answered Yes, while 8% of them answered No
and the least is 6% who answered Maybe.

Page | 56

Chapter 4 ANALYSIS, PRESENTATION AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This concludes that from the answer that we acquired from
the respondents, many are aware of the climate change and we
think that it is because of what they were experiencing in the past
few years.

Chapter 4 ANALYSIS, PRESENTATION AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

Travelling via airplane is a very nice experience but not

everyone has the chance to ride it. Probably because it is expensive
and you need passports or visas if youre going to travel abroad.
Also, there are more processes when travelling via airplane than
when travelling by land or by sea. For some first timers, they felt
uncomfortable. Not because of the flight itself, but because of the
feeling of the airplane taking off and landing or passing through a
turbulence.
Based on the data gathered, more than half of the
respondents have travelled by airplane. 58% said that they already
experienced travelling via airplane while 37% havent experienced
it and the remaining 5% were not sure about what to say.

Journeying via airplane can be considered convenient and

time saving because it can travel great distances in less time,
compared to travelling by sea or land. But given that travelling by
airplane is convenient and time saving, it costs more and it has
more processes compared to travelling by land or air. For example,
to travel by airplane, you need to have a passport or visa, if your
destination is regional. Also, you have to go through many
processes like going to an airport, etc.
Based on the data gathered, more than half of the
respondents find travelling by airplane convenient and time saving.

Chapter 4 ANALYSIS, PRESENTATION AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

As of the gathered information from question number 9,

many of the respondents from aircraft maintenance and
aeronautical engineering have answered yes in the question with
the percentage of 75. And the least of them answered no with 9%
and maybe for the remaining 16%. The Aviation Industry is one of
the trendiest in the world. The majority of our transportation
regionally relies on the aviation industry. Flight is one of the most
common forms of passenger transportation. Today the global airline
industry consists of over 2,000 airlines operating more than 23,000
aircraft, providing service to over 3700 airports. The growth of
world air travel has averaged approximately 5% per year over the
past 30 years, with substantial yearly variations due both to
changing economic conditions and differences in economic growth
in different regions of the world.
The researchers analysed based on the answers of the
respondents that the aviation industry is a major force in global
transportation.

As of the gathered information from question number 10,

most of the respondents from aircraft maintenance and

the percentage of 58. And the rest of them answered no with 15%
and maybe with 27%. Pollution control plays a vital role in our
country. An aircraft engine contributes a global warming and global
dimming even though it is least polluting forms of travel in the
world.
The rapid growth of air travel in recent years can
contributes to increase the total pollution attributed to aviation and
the reduction of achieved automobiles. The jet fuel can burned per

passenger on an average 3,200 kilometers airline flight about 353
kilograms.
The researchers analysed that most answers given by the
respondents agrees that effective pollution control will reduce
aviations environmental harm.

ANALYSIS:

The researchers evaluated the data by tabulating and using

pie charts. We clearly analysed and examined the information since
the method used shows the exact difference of the answers from
the respondents in different questions (3rd year 5th year of B.S.
Aeronautical Engineering and 1st year 4th year of B.S. Aircraft
Maintenance Technology).
Aviation is a fast growing sector of the economy. It is
associated with a number of social and economic benefits and a
range of environmentally damaging consequences. It is also
associated with a significant and growing contribution to the global
inventory of greenhouse gases which are thought to be implicated
in climate change. Thus, these resulted serious problems must now
be resolved.
Education and awareness is very important indeed in
aviation. There will be many airline customers who have never
thought of airports and flying as an environmental problem.
Information should be widely available so that these groups have
the background information they need to understand the changing
circumstances of aviation. Informed choice is a key component of
transport demand management and environmental policy.
