Leviticus 11:1-3: “And the LORD spake unto Moses and to
Aaron, saying unto them, Speak unto the children of Israel, say-
ing , These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the
beasts that are on the earth. Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and
is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that
shall ye eat.” (See the rest of Lev. 11 and Deut. 14:1-21 for
what birds and fish God permitted His people to eat.)
Leviticus 17:10-12: “And whatsoever man there be of the house
of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that
eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that
soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his peo-
ple. For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it
to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it
is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. Therefore I
said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood,
neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat
blood.”
Prov. 20:1: “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and
whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
Proverbs 23:20: “Be not among winebibbers; among riotous
eaters of flesh.”
Proverbs 23:29-35: “Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who
hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds with-
out cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at
the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. Look not thou upon
the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup,
when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent,
and stingeth like an adder. Thine eyes shall behold strange
women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. Yea, thou
shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he
that lieth upon the top of a mast. They have stricken me, shalt
thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it
not: when shall I awake ? I will seek it yet again.”
