This document announces a talk by Dr. Jean-Claude Lapraz on re-evaluating the role of serotonin in depression and introducing new approaches based on Endobiogenic Medicine. The talk will be hosted by CAMAS and SEMIP-UK and will explore whether serotonin causes depression or is a mechanism, evaluate the role of hormones, and present new diagnosis and treatment methods based on the causes versus mechanisms of depression. SEMIP-UK coordinates information and provides resources on Endobiogenic Medicine, an integrative systems model based on developmental biology and physiology that uses a specialized blood test to gain a deeper understanding of imbalances and restore optimal balance through personalized plant-based treatments and lifestyle recommendations.

About Dr. Lapraz
Jean-Claude Lapraz, MD is a French medical doctor and co-developer, along with Christian Duraffourd, MD, of what is now known as Endobiogenic Medicine and previously as clinical phytotherapy. Drs. Lapraz and Duraffourd have been developing this model since the early 1970s, and Dr. Lapraz has spent the last 30 or so years training medical practitioners in endobiogenic medicine as well as rigorously testing the therapeutic capabilities of medicinal plants in a clinical setting, both in private practice and in hospital care. Indeed, Dr. Lapraz was a consultant in the General Surgery and Oncology Department of the Hpital Boucicaut in Paris from 1989-1996, where he used Endobiogenic Medicine principles and medicinal plants as part of cancer treatment protocols. He also worked with Pasteur Institute researchers, and at other leading institutions worldwide applying Endobiogenic Medicine to a range of medical challenges from fibromyalgia to cholera and leprosy. Dr. Lapraz participated in the creation of the National Diploma of Clinical Phytotherapy in France in 1982 and has helped set up clinical trainings both in France and abroad including in Belgium, Spain, England, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Switzerland, Ivory Coast, Tunisia and USA. He has worked in close collaboration with official bodies (including the Ministry of Health and the European Parliament) since 1977, participating in several ministerial commissions and drawing up a report on the state of phytotherapy in France for the Ministry of Health in 1985. Dr. Lapraz has lectured at many universities both in France and abroad; carried out clinical research, hospital trials, studies and evaluations on botanical medicine; written articles and contributed to medical journals; and written and published a number of books on phytotherapy and Endobiogenic Medicine. For specific information on any of these studies, articles and books, please contact SEMIP-UK.
About Endobiogenic Medicine
Endobiogenic Medicine is an integrative whole systems model. It is based on developmental and
systems biology and physiology, and evaluates the internal life of the body (the terrain) through the use of a particular physical examination, medical history and an innovative blood test called the Biology of Function. This blood analysis is unlike any other blood test currently available. Indeed it differs from other blood tests in a number of ways, namely by determining biological activity through over 150 direct and indirect markers, and evaluating quantitative as well as qualitative function in the body. It is an invaluable tool to help understand, prevent and treat dis-ease. Endobiogenic Medicines systemic and integrative perspective enables practitioners to gain a more global, deep and complex understanding of dis-ease processes and how to restore optimal balance in the system as a whole. The treatment strategy in Endobiogenic Medicine is personalized to the specific internal imbalances of the patient as well as external circumstances. The best treatment for the patient is the one that is most targeted for them and offers the greatest chance of restoring the endogenous regulatory mechanisms. A rational clinical approach to medicinal plants is favoured due to its ability to reintroduce dynamic regulatory capability and buffering capacity to the organism. Nutritional and lifestyle recommendations are personalized to the disorder, chronobiologic, and epigenetic considerations.
