Introduction
In todays world, global warming continues to threaten the survival of
our species and it will not stop unless we do something about its main cause,
which is pollution. Pollution comes in many form. There is pollution coming

from the burning of plastic waste, pollution arising from the burning of fossil
fuel in order to produce energy, and pollution coming from vehicles.
However, the burning of fossil fuel for our energy needs is a major player in
the rising levels of global warming that we are experiencing today. This is
why development in the renewable energy sector is much needed to
counteract the rise in global warming, and possibly revert our worlds
temperature levels to normal status.
Our innovation is the Piezoelectric Generator and it has two major
components. The first major component of this hybrid generator is the
piezoelectric generator. A piezoelectric generator utilizes vibrations in order
to produce electric energy. Some instances wherein a piezoelectric generator
produces electricity is when it is placed on the side of the road, or when it is
placed at sea. For the former, the generator harnesses the vibrations made
by the travelling cars and turning those vibrations into electric energy. For
the latter on the other hand, the generator makes use of the vibrations
created by the waves of the sea in order to produce electric energy.
The second major component is the thermoelectric generator. A
thermoelectric generator produces electric energy by harnessing the heat of
its surroundings, much like how solar panels work. Some examples of electric
generation by thermoelectric generators is when it is placed in homes near
the oven, or even the human body. When a thermoelectric generator is
placed near an oven, the excess heat from the oven allows

the

thermoelectric generator to generate electricity. On the other hand, the

natural body heat of our human bodies is also enough to allow the
thermoelectric generator to produce electric energy.

Body
The Piezoelectric Generator aims to benefit the world through the
automobile industry. We know that automobiles consume fuel in order to get
us from one destination to another. However, the process of burning fuel,
and extracting fuel from the ground contributes to environmental pollution.
Through our innovation, automobiles will expend less fuel in order to perform
the same amount of work as before resulting in less fuel consumption which
directly results to less environmental pollution.
The Piezo-Thermal Hybrid Generator utilizes the electric generating
capabilities of two different electric generators which is the Piezoelectric
Generator, and the Thermoelectric Generator. Both generators generate
electricity

through

generation. This ensures that this hybrid generator wouldnt contribute to

global warming, and would further increase the knowledge of mankind to the
ways that we can utilize renewable energies.
The Piezo-Thermal Hybrid Generator would utilize both the natural
occurring vibrations and natural occurring heat in order to produce electric
energy without the need for fossil fuels. The design of our hybrid generator
allows us to put it into the hood of the cars, with our first component, the
piezoelectric generator being placed near the engine so that it can capture
the vibrations produced by the engine; while our second component which is
the thermoelectric generator is going to be placed at the hood of the car in
order for it to capture all the excess heat produced by both the environment,
and the engine block.

Benefits

It can generate electricity that the car can use to lessen its fuel

consumption
It contributes to the reduction of global warming
It can provide power to electric equipment inside the car
It is portable and can be easily placed under the hood of all
automobiles

Interpretation of Results
Based from the results of our tests, we were able to determine that this
hybrid generator can decrease the overall monthly consumption of
automobiles by 30% - 50% depending on the weather. We also found out that
the weather doesnt affect the thermoelectric generator as much as we

thought at first because the internal heat produced by the engine was
enough to power our thermoelectric generator. The piezoelectric generator
was also working non-stop as long as the car is moving and is producing the
necessary vibrations in order for it to work and produce energy.

Method, Procedure, and Theory

A piezoelectric generator produces electricity through the piezoelectric
effect. This happens when the piezoelectric generator is subjected to
mechanical stress by either hitting it or twisting it just enough to deform the
crystal lattice within it without fracturing it. In the case of our product, the
vibrations caused by the engine block of the car is enough to allow the
piezoelectric generator to produce electricity. The additional vibrations
caused by the road and the wheels of the car will also contribute to the
electric generation of this generator.
A thermoelectric generator produces electricity by utilizing the heat of
its surroundings. A thermoelectric generator has two major components
which is the p-type semiconductor (positively charged), and the n-type
semiconductor (negatively charged).

Electric energy is generated when

there is a temperature difference between the two materials. The higher the
temperature difference, the higher amount of electric energy produced. In
the case of our product, the heat from the environment and the heat
produced by the engine allows the thermoelectric generator to produce
electricity.
The whole system block will allow the battery to store enough power
that it can utilize at any time. The two components, the piezoelectric
generator and the thermoelectric generator complements each other in such
a way that energy is being produced whether the car is moving or not, as
long as heat is present in the area. For example, when the car is moving,
both the piezoelectric generator and thermoelectric generator is producing
electricity. On the other hand, when the car is not moving, the thermoelectric
generator is still producing electricity as long as the car is parked in a place
where sunlight is prevalent. This ensures that the efficiency of this hybrid
generator is as high as possible.

Conclusion
With the rising costs of fuel, finding an alternative for fuel is a must
which is why this hybrid generator has the potential to become a massive
money-saver for families all over the world. As we all know, fuel is needed for
the lights of the car, the air conditioning system, the speakers and radio, and
the charging outlets. Therefore, by storing energy in order to be used for
those processes will allow people to save money on fuel. By combining two
generators, there will be more electric energy that will be produced and
ensures that every waste product by the automotive is fully utilized. By using
this product, we can bring the down the fuel consumption of automotive to
70% of the national average.
