The world is beautiful
because of imagination.
Someone imagines different shapes out of the
clouds, someone sometimes imagines a different situation, and someone imagines a different
world altogether. There is
a thin line of difference
between imagination and
the real world and that
difference is the beauty
that we perceive. As Albus Dumbledore rightly
said Harry Potter Its
all in your head.
The Literary Club of IIM
Ranchi launched two
inter college creative
writing competitionsIgnis and Exponentia
under the umbrella event
of Fantasia. Where Ignis
was about drawing inspiration from pictures,
Exponentia was all about
webbing stories around
our favorite characters.

The competition was

initiated on 28 February.
More than a hundred
teams participated. Ignis
participants were given
six pictures, from which
they could choose one as
a subject for their story.
Exponentia participants
were forwarded a list of
their favorite characters
in interesting settings to
spin their stories.
1st prize in Ignis went to
Losing Battle written
by Arunava Ray, XLRI,
followed by the sci-fi
Metuella written by
Karthikeyan M, IIM

Trichy. The 3rd prize was

jointly shared by StoriesIn Greece and Candy
Strips,
written
by
Shashank Garg, IIM Calcutta and Gauri Rajpal,
IIM Ranchi respectively.
Exponentias 1st prize was
once again bagged by
Karthikeyan and his Hunger Games fan fiction. The
story written by Sumithra
Krishnan, PSG on Cersei
Lannister and Mr. Darcy
won the second prize, followed by the story written
on a meeting between
Gandalf and Dumbledore
written jointly by Rishabh
Sood and Prachi Mohan,
MDI.

Futsal Season 2 at IIM Ranchi

Fancy nutmegs, nervewracking penalty shootouts,

acrobatic saves, sublime hatricks, we witnessed it all in the
latest edition of Futsal, the
biannual football competition
organized by Sports and Cultural Committee, IIM Ranchi.
This edition pitted 4 teams,
Swasthik Maniacs, Auzaar,
Kantatoli United and Smokin
Aces, in a hotly contested
league from which the top 2
sides progressed to the finals.
In synonymous with every
league cropping up across the
nation, the owners of the four
franchises had to participate
in a heated auction for getting
the signatures of the best possible talent from the available
pool of players. With several
marquee players retained by
the respective franchises, Noel
was the star attraction of the
auction of Futsal 2.0 when he
was snapped by Swasthik Maniacs for a whooping 54

points. Smokin Aces retained

their formidable triumvirate
of Raja Sunder, Himanshu
Bist and Chetan Sehgal. Auzaar were happy to parade the
fleet footed Douminlal in their
ranks, while Kan U flaunted
their star man in Gunner
Nachiketa Sharma.
This time around, a brand new
Fantasy League was also introduced by the organizers to
keep the student population
sated. The fantasy league allowed the participants to go
through the same turmoil of
emotions as that of the owners
as they tried to get that perfect
blend of players in their rosters. Needless to say, the fantasy league was a roaring success.
From Sakets opening goal in
the inaugural game, the tournament never lacked for excitement. At the end of the six
league games, Kantatoli Unit-

ed and Auzaar sat perched at

the top tied with 4 points
apiece. With the final pitting
the most lethal forward of the
tournament Nachiketa Sharma against the best keeper of
the tournament, Mata Naga
Sai, the match lived up to all
its pre-match billing. In what
proved to be the highest scoring game ever in IIMR Futsal
history, a Nachiketa Sharma
hatrick inspired Kantatoli
United to a 4-2 victory over a
gutted Auzaar outfit that had
taken an early lead through
Douminlal. With his 6 goal
tally, Nachiketa scooped up
both the Player of the Tournament and the Golden Boot
award while Naga Sai bagged
the Best Goalkeeper award.

Toastmasters Celebration- Table topic and Role Play competition

The measure of
who we are is what
we do with what we
have.
Vince Lombardi

Imagine a Holi of not only

war of colors but also a war of
colorful words. Toastmasters
IIM Ranchi, this Holi decided
to do something offbeat than
the usual meetings- A theme
of luck, confidence and of
course fun, the perfect ingredient to celebrate Holi. A table
topic and role play contest was
organized on the lazy afternoon of 7 March, the day just
after Holi. The contest was
held especially to enhance the
impromptu skill of students,
abating the need of prepared
speeches to make it more fun.
Table topics selected were
mostly on the line of importance of colors in our life
ranging from the topics of
World is my stage, color are
just my dress to Pink is boys
and blue is girls.
First prize went to Richa
Mukhi who spoke beautifully
on The color which defines
me the most followed by
Manjeera Nandiraju who
made the audience misty eyed
with the topic My most memorable Holi.
The audience turned rhapsod-

ic when it was time for the role

plays. From hilarious conversation of William Shakespeare
discussing Rancho with
Chetan Bhagat to the Fair and
Lovely ad maker selling his
product to an Eskimo, it was
difficult indeed to hold back
your smile. Once again, Manjeera was successful in bagging the first prize along with
Ankita Thakur for the gutbursting act of Simi Garewal
meeting Lady Gaga. Second
prize went to the frolicsome
love story of a colorful flower
and the honey bee, played by

Geeta Runkani and Madhavi

Krishna.
It was difficult indeed for the
audience this time to decide
upon the winners. At the end
of the meeting Madam President was requested to hold
similar kind of meetings in the
near future as well. The attractive goodies and certificates
distributed amongst the
guests made the event more
memorable.

Letter from the Editor

You must be ready to burn
yourself in your own flame;
how could you rise anew if
you have not first become
ashes?
Friedrich Nietzsche
A summer in a sultry tropical
city is an exceedingly effective
way to test out Nietzsches hypothesis. More so, if one adds
an internship into the mix.
Ones education is only half
complete when the powers that
be, decide to send one out into
the world and fend for oneself.
The journey is meant to teach
important life lessons and usually lasts no more than two
months. Time, of course, is a
relative phenomenon. It could
pass by in the blink of an eye or
feel like an eternity. How long,
one must ask, does it take for
one to burn and be rebuilt
anew?
Through the heat and the haze
one is sent everyday to a world
which hardly makes sense. One
watches the people of this new
world, the colleagues, the superiors, the corporate profession-

als in wide eyed wonder. Confusion envelops the conscious

mind. Is this what one has been
taught all year? What of those
lessons in ethics and economics, or those big books of finance and marketing? Who will
account for the inefficiencies in
operations? The age old battle
between published literature
and reality haunts one throughout the summer. An internship
is rich in lessons but one never
expects to be teaching oneself.
One wonders how many birthdays one has missed of friends,
or how many were missed at
home. One wonders if this is
what the rest of ones life looks
like.
One watches quietly from a
corner, present yet invisible to
the regulars. A part of their
world, but not destined to stay
for long, one is a ghost in transit. It takes a while, the realization comes late. The voyage is
such by design. One is not
meant to find ones feet in this
alien world. Rather, one is
meant to fly. One is inside the

organization, but an outsider all

the same. As a result one has all
the pieces of the puzzle without
the skewed vision of the denizens. One can choose to wither
away in the heat. Or one can
burn brighter than the summer
sun and do something for this
new world.
Take the pieces of the puzzle
and help them complete the
picture. Be a consultant to the
company. An intern is not the
bottom of the food chain. An
intern is a new and fresh outlook, perhaps even a way to
save the business. An intern is
one who removes stagnation
from an organization and
brings change. Be the catalyst
for that change. Revel in your
creative flame and let greatness
rise from the ashes.
