Process Idea (Figs)
Åke Sandström, Process Metallurgy, LTU and Börje Lindström, Microbiology. UmU
have for long time attempted to oxidize sulfides with microorganisms (archea).
Acid is produced in this reaction so microbial oxidation and acid leaching occur
simultaneously. We are trying to understand the relevant surface reactions.
Limestone is commonly used to neutralize the ash, but we have used misc. Ashes for
this purpose.
