Payment terms for IELTS
By ticking the I Accept check box below, you confirm that you understand that you
are registering via the British Council s Online Registration System to take the I
ELTS test with the British Council (your Test Registration ) and the payment relati
ng to your Test Registration is directly between the British Council and yoursel
f. All aspects of your Test Registration relating to payment terms, refund, canc
ellation and transfer are as per the policies stipulated below.
The British Council is incorporated in England and Wales by Royal Charter and re
gistered as a charity (under number 209131 in England and Wales and number SC037
73 in Scotland). Its registered office is at 10 Spring Gardens, London, SW1A 2BN
.
After you make your Test Registration, the British Council will confirm its acce
ptance to you in the form of an email from the relevant test centre of your enro
lment on the relevant IELTS test ( IELTS Test Confirmation ). The contract between y
ou and the British Council will only be formed when you are sent the Enrolment C
onfirmation. The contract between you and the British Council is formed in the E
nglish language.
Fees
Fees may change from time to time, but this will not affect any Test Registratio
n which has been confirmed by an Enrolment Confirmation.
Payment for your Test Registration will need to be made in advance through the B
ritish Council s Online Registration System.
Cancellation
You may cancel your Test Registration at any time prior to taking the IELTS test
by notifying the British Council by email to, if you change your mind or for an
y other reason you decide you do not want to take the IELTS test. Your right to
receive a refund will depend on how far in advance you cancel your Test Registra
tion.
If you cancel your registration more than five weeks before the test date will r
eceive a refund. However, the centre will deduct an administrative fee of 25% of
the test fee.
Refunds take up to 4 weeks to be processed.
If you cancel your registration within the five-week period prior to the test da
te, you will receive no refund.
Requests for refund must be sent by email to ieltsexam@britishcouncil.org.co.
Transfer
You may request to transfer test dates if you notify us by email (ieltsexam@brit
ishcouncil.org.co) more than five weeks before your confirmed test date. You wil
l need to pay a fee of 25% of the test fee before the transfer can be made.
If you wish to transfer test dates within the five-week period before your confi
rmed test date, this will be treated as a cancellation and you will receive no r
efund.
Refunds in exceptional circumstances
You may apply for a full refund where you are unable to attend your IELTS test d
ue to any of the following circumstances:
Illness;
Loss or bereavement;
Hardship or trauma; or
Military service.
You may also apply for a full refund - Less an administrative fee of 25% of the
test fee, where you are taken ill during your IELTS test and unable to complete
the test(s) for which you are registered.
In any of these circumstances, you will need to submit an application for a refu
nd to the relevant test centre no more than three working days after the Test Da
te and provide appropriate documentation or evidence to support your application
for a refund
for example, a medical certificate from a qualified medical practi
tioner, a death notice or certificate or a police report, as applicable.
You will be informed whether or not your application has been approved within on
e week after the date you submit it.
If you have been unable to attend your Test Date due to illness (and have suppor
ting evidence) you may request a transfer to a new test date instead of a refund
. In this case no transfer fee will be charged.
You will not be entitled to a refund if you do not submit an application for a r
efund as described above.
Contacting the British Council
To cancel a Test Registration, change your Test Date or request a refund, you mu
st contact the British Council in writing by sending an email to ieltsexam@briti
shcouncil.org.co. You may wish to keep a copy of your cancellation notice for yo
ur own records.
For exams paid in Davivienda or Zona de pagos please send the payment slip to ie
ltspayments@britishcouncil.org.co no later than 3 days after completing the appl
ication.
Incomplete registrations for either payment or incorrect document upload will be
deleted 3 days after the initial registration date.
If you complete your registration on the closing registration date you must pay
and upload a scan copy of both sides of your identification as per the required
specifications on the same day, otherwise your application will not be considere
d.
If you need your results to be sent to a Postal Address please ensure you let us
know otherwise, we are unable to process your request. Candidates are responsib
le to cover any Courier fees.
