Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGOUND

Introduction
This chapter presents the background of the study, statement of the problem,
research hypothesis, significance of the study, conceptual framework, theoretical
framework, scope and delimitation of the study and definition of terms. All about
the Effectiveness of English Acquisition to Progressive Society: A tool for
ignorance.

Background of the study

In recent years, English is more popular in the world. It attracts people due to
its tune and structure. However, this language is learned and studied by a higher
number of people with every passing day because of its two importance in this
modern world; to communicate and to create a greater opportunity for a job.
Nowadays, English is one of the universal language and it is also the second
language spoken of many countries in the world. In this days, English plays an
important role for a progressive society because of our modern generation. The
Philippines is ranked among the top five countries in the world in terms of total
numbers of English speakers. This explosion in Filipinos Speaking English has led to
another quiet but important development.

Statement of the problem

Learners struggling to learn English when taught in all-English settings.
Students may fail to understand what the teacher is talking about, and may become
frustrated when they have an idea but cannot adequately express their thoughts in
English. Particularly in improving speaking skill is not easy for the students.
Having lack of Learner Motivation, Insufficient Time, Resources and Materials
are one of the problem for not meeting the effectiveness of English language for a
progressive society. Lack of resources and unity because of our different languages
here in our country is another severe condition in too many society can face it.

Research hypothesis
English may not be the most spoken language in the world, but it is the
official language in a large number of countries. It is estimated that the number of
people in the world that use English to communicate on a regular basis is 2 billion. It
is the dominant business language and it has become almost necessity for people
to speak English if they are to enter a global workforce, research from all over the
world shows that cross-border business communication is most often conducted in
English. Its importance in the global market place therefore cannot be understated,
learning English really can change your life. Most of the content produced in the
internet is in English. So, knowing English will allow you access to an incredible
amount of information. Although learning English can be challenging and time
consuming, we can see that it is also very valuable to learn and can create many
oppurtunities.

Significance of the study

This study intents to help the following sectors in our country.
Significance of the study is the part where you tell how your study
would be beneficial to specific people of the society and how they would use it
The Researchers. This study is the way of attaining information regarding the
topic and gained an answer about the said matter. Through this study, the selffulfillment and self-actualization will be achieved by the researchers.
The Teachers. This study helps the teachers to instruct, teach and
communicate to their student well into a progressive society. This study will help the
teachers to produced and mold a constructive and formative students to become a
work ready and career oriented citizens.
The School. This study helps the school to know the effectiveness of English
Acquisition to a progressive society.

Scope and delimitation

This study is scope only for some of the people of one society composed of
five (5) boys and five (5) girls who gave their idea how effective English language to
produced a progressive society. In this study, it talked about the effectiveness of
English Acquisition to a Progressive Society: A Tool for Ignorance. How English
language control our lives to achieve and be competitive to other country into a
progressive society. How it serve as a tool for a society.
