to respond effectively to tomorrow’s business challenges.
Course Structure: Flexibility and Choice
You can opt for either a three-year or a four-year degree
within this programme. The degree is structured around four
elements: core subjects, options, skills and specialisms.
Core modules provide a solid foundation in the key
disciplines of business, while options in the first, second and
final year offer the opportunity to acquire extensive
expertise in a range of topics, including proficiency in a
European language. Throughout the course you will develop
vital business skills in areas such as communication,
computing, team working, and problem solving. In your final
year you will be able to specialise in one of five key areas of
business: Finance, Human Resource Management, eBusiness,
Marketing, or Law.
If you decide on the four-year option, you will also undertake
an INTRA work placement for one year.

The INTRA Work Placement
Difference
Towards the end of second year, you will choose whether
to move directly to final year or to take a 12 month work
placement. INTRA (INtegrated TRAining) is the DCU work
placement programme. The objective is to provide you
with practical work experience that is relevant to your
studies and enriches your academic experience.
Participating companies are drawn from a variety of
business sectors and range from large multinational
organisations to small indigenous companies. Graduates
find that this period of work experience is an enviable
addition to their C.V. and helps to distinguish them in the
graduate employment market. Some graduates choose
to return to their INTRA employers following graduation.

the examinations of professional bodies in Marketing,
Finance and Accounting.*
This course is also suitable for those who ultimately wish
to pursue a career in teaching as it is recognised by the
Teaching Council for the purposes of teaching
Accounting, Business and Economics.

The INTRA Work Placement Advantage

My year-long work placement at Anglo Irish Bank has been a hugely positive experience. I held a
position in Lending, which is an area that I was interested in but I didn’t have a huge amount of
knowledge as to what actually happened day-to-day in this business.
In my opinion the biggest indication that my placement was a success is the fact that it has helped
me choose my subjects for final year. Following my placement, which was quite a numerical job, I
now have no doubt that the financial specialism is the best option for me.
