THEORY AND PRINCIPLES APPLIED

These two always come together and I believed in that. There are things that I learned and
see while Im inside the IHMC with regards to these aspects. What really caught my attention in
this school is that they are posting their goals for today for them to have guidelines if they have
achieve that goal on a specific day and this is the part where I always forget whenever I teach
them because Im not used to do it but I realized the purpose of having this part of learning plan
being recited and being posted because they want to set the minds of the students that these
objectives will be their goals for today and they need to achieve it. Setting the mind and mood of
the students is also part of motivating them to learn.
Even though in the way of the teachers make their learning plan here in immaculate
doesnt include the motivation part and they really not giving emphasize in that part of lesson
plan but I can still see that this is part of the basic principles in the teaching learning process.
Even my CT she make it in fire whenever she will start the topic because as far as I know,
students has individual needs to be motivated and its up to your activity whether they will like it
or not. There are different motivation I saw to my CT, the extrinsic and intrinsic, but, she often
use the extrinsic motivation because the students will receive rewards that drives them to do it
more but sometime she also uses the intrinsic motivation wherein the students were doing it
because of fun and the curiosity of the students are there. At first, especially in my initial demo
I used the intrinsic and I saw it in them that they were eager to learn and be curious about the
topic we will be discussing but on my final demo, I was able to use the extrinsic because e of the
idea given by the CT that they will actively participate when I will give the rewards. I also gave
them right away feedback whenever they answer and it becomes effective whenever I do that
because students from Grade 8 always wanted to be praise and appreciate the things they are
doing and whenever they recite. I also notice from them that if you will give them example
which is related to you they will give you the time to listen and that is one of the greatest way to
motivate a student to listen and caught their attention. I also learned from my CT that leaning
their interest and try to pattern it to your motivation will make the students become motivated na
excited to learn new things from you.

With the first teaching demo I experience in IHMC, I notice from the students that they
are not that excited and I feel like the discussion was too dull, so what I did to my last demo was
to use something I know that theyll be motivated and it is giving rewards and it is a sort of
chocolate and candies where whenever I ask a question , they need to answer it correctly and Ill
give them the reward because I know it is better to give that reinforcement than a negative one. I
also saw how my CT applied the theory of Thorndike which is about the constant repetition of
things and information that they need to know and it is with the use of drill, review and
examination where the integral part of teaching and learning takes place. There are also impact
of the materials we used in teaching specially when my teacher uses any game that makes them
active is another kind of strategy I learned from her because it make the students awareness in
answering a question which is another kind of motivating the students.
My CT also showed to me how the studs have their own uniqueness and what we call the
diversity of students youre handling. They can also learn best whenever it is the theory of
Pavlov which is learning by doing, where you let your students to learn on their own and with
the use of their imagination and acting it out. I also see in them that they more likely to work
with pair rather than individual because t5hey know that two heads are better than one, but, I also
believe that they can learn easily when they have a partner just like socialization and it is
somehow connected with Social Learning Theory. Another is that, Ms. Defeo always encourage
the students to make the complex things just like learning it in a easy way and it shows how they
revise and constructing the knowledge they have gather and make it in a way that they will
remember, for example, Ms. Defeo gave an example about parallelism and I notice one of the
students make her own clues to make it simple the complex ones.
I also learn from my CT that students want to perform in a different activity and with that
I always give task using the multiple intelligence and I make sure that they really like the group
theyll be forming just like they have the group who make role play, poem, jingle, skit and even
commercial.

PERSONAL ASSESSMENT
As what I have been mentioning this experience is tremendously unforgettable and
memorable and i will always thank the administration of IHMC for accepting us and training
with the expertise of the teachers, sisters and especially the principal. They allowed us to grow
and learn from them. They even allow us to know better about the students coming from this
kind of prestigious school.
At first, I was uncomfortable speaking in front of even small groups because this is not
my balcony and Im just a guest here but now I am happy to speak in front of a large classroom
and face them with a smile. I also have learned to read my students expressions. I am able to
dynamically interact with my students in both formal lectures and even outside the classroom.
I have learned a lot about myself as a student teacher, both from getting experience in teaching. I
feel confident at this point that I am capable of successfully teaching the high school (Grade 8)
students. I have acquired many useful skills from my CT and even from one of the OJF seminars.
In working to develop my teaching abilities I have learned much about how to have a time
management, good and bad ways to present material and techniques. Even though Im not
satisfied with some of my teaching days, I still managed to correct it after that time. I even do
improve my teaching strategies so that there would be no dead air and dull moments. I always
wanted to attend and come to my class prepared just like my CT, but, sometimes I am not
consistent with that.
I am still looking forward that these skills that I have an d the learnings Ive gather from
IHMC will still grow, expand and generate for I will be able to teach my students the things they
need to know and to achieve my main goal, to touch the lives of the students and impose to them
that learning doesnt matter how slow you go, but as long as you wont stop reaching for your
dreams thats the one that matter. I also believe in myself that when I imagine with all my mind,
believe in my own and achieve with all my might, nothing is impossible with that.
