The Jericho Underhill Land Trust (JULT) is pleased to present its second annual report to our

members, friends and neighbors. 2009 marked ten years since JULT purchased the Mills prop-
erty for a community park. Mills Riverside Park has since become an important natural asset for
year round recreation, important wildlife habitat and scenic beauty. JULT celebrated the park’s 10th
birthday with cake for all during a popular summer concert on August 4th. A small tabletop display
nestled among cedar trees helped to give visibility to the Jericho Underhill Land Trust and the im-
portance of land conservation. Our extremely committed board members stood ready to answer
any questions and enjoy the beautiful evening. Children danced to the music, families picnicked on blankets; the
community celebrated the best of summer on land
that is permanently conserved and will always offer
this beautiful natural setting for enjoyment and ap-
preciation. Without strong community support back
in 1999, the story of the Mills property would have
been different. The magnificent view of Mt. Mansfield
from Rt. 15, which we all treasure, would have be-
come a sea of roof tops with private backyards. Every
year, JULT is working hard to preserve the special
natural places that identify Jericho and Underhill as
home. We could not be successful without your gener-
ous membership support and project donations.

In 2009, JULT focused our fundraising efforts on se-

curing the $66,000 necessary to purchase the “Gate-
way” property. This wild and diverse land of 123 acres
was essential for providing an added buffer from de-

Jericho Underhill Land Trust is an all-volunteer organization that is run by a board of directors. We are very fortunate
to have an extremely committed group who put in numerous hours to accomplish our land conservation mission. I
would like to thank all of our board members for their invaluable efforts. I would also like to invite interested citizens to
join us by helping with the many tasks that constitute our conservation work…from mailings to trail maintenance. You
are also invited to attend our board meetings at the Community Center in Jericho the first Monday of every month. We
meet in the back room at 7 p.m. Together; we can help protect our future landscape today.
