Prominent awards

Bournemouth University (BU) has twice been awarded The Queen’s Anniversary Prize — the UK’s most prestigious award for higher education. It is also the first university to have achieved a ‘commended’ rating for the quality of student learning opportunities, the highest award possible from the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).

Centres for excellence

Home to the Centre for Excellence in Media Practice, BU offers the only UK journalism course which is accredited by the three main industry bodies; BJTC, NCTJ and PTC. The University also houses the world-renowned National Centre for Computer Animation, while the School of Tourism is recognised as a global leader by the World Tourism Organisation.

Student success

Join a community of almost 17,000 students from over 100 different countries. BU media alumni regularly win awards at the Royal Television Society and over a hundred BU graduates have celebrated Oscar and BAFTA success for their work on incredible films such as Avatar, Gravity, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, Skyfall and The Hobbit.

Building for the future

BU is dedicated to creating world-class facilities and is investing £200 million to improve the University by 2018. The brand-new Student Centre, completed in 2015, provides extra social and learning space as well as a new Student Advice Centre, meeting rooms and a café. In addition, a superb academic building, opening in 2016, will house seminar rooms, lecture theatres and catering facilities.

Remarkable research

In the Research Excellence Framework 2014, 96% of BU research was rated at an international level, with 18% considered world-leading. BU is the fourth university in the southwest of England for world-leading impact in research.

Great experience

To ensure you have the best possible time at university, BU’s Students’ Union is very active. As well as offering advice and support, it also organises over 100 different clubs and societies. Students run their own media outlet with a radio station, magazine and TV channel and there are endless opportunities to volunteer with various charities.
