Course Design
The following provides information about the design of the course to help you
understand how to teach the course and use the course materials in a classroom
setting:
Course Objectives
Course 3104 is designed to enable professional administrators to perform common
tasks using the services provided by SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11.
The attendees perform tasks often required when deploying SUSE Linux
Enterprise Desktop 11 (SLED 11) in an enterprise network.
The administrative tasks taught in Course 3104 enable students to do the following:

Copying all or part of this manual, or distributing such copies, is strictly prohibited.
To report suspected copying, please call 1-800-PIRATES.
Course Design
As part of the classroom instruction, students will work with multiple lab exercises to
help them practically apply course concepts and reinforce their proficiency with
features and management utilities in SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11.
The learning objectives included in this course will provide some of the objectives
used in the Certified Linux Desktop Administrator (CLDA11, 050-722) certification.
Course Audience
This course is addressed to administrators that are CLA11 (or those who have a
comparable Linux administration knowledge) and who now want to gain in-depth
knowledge on tasks a Linux administrator specifically has to perform routinely on
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11.
Students
Before attending this course you should be familiar with the Linux
administration as found in SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 Fundamentals (Course
3101) and SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 Administration (Course 3102).
Instructor
CNIs who have their CLDA and CLP10 certification will have provisional
authorization to teach.
Delivery Method
The SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 Administration (3104) course is designed to
be delivered through Novells training partner channel utilizing a Certified Novell
Instructor (CNI).
Copying all or part of this manual, or distributing such copies, is strictly prohibited.
To report suspected copying, please call 1-800-PIRATES.
Version 1
The student kits for this course will be available through Gilmore Global, and other
partners authorized to distribute Novell Training Services deliverables. The student
kits serve as both a classroom deliverable and as a self-study kit.
As with all Novell certifications, course work is recommended. To achieve the Novell
CLDP 11 certification, you are required to pass the Novell CLDP 11 exam.
The following illustrates the training and testing path for Novell CLDP11:

Printable versions of the course manual, workbook, and instructor guide are available from the CNI
Community Course 8004 download page (see Instructor Community (CNI Net) Deliverables on
page 9).
In addition, there are several folders on DVD 1 with the following content:
Exercises/. This directory contains files used for the course exercises.
Setup/. This directory contains furthrer files you need to set up your practice
environment for hands-on exercises.
The files on the DVD are provided on the 3104 Course Materials Web page in two
ZIP files:
3104_Course_DVD1.zip
The file contains the first DVD.
3104_Course_DVD2.zip
The file contains the second DVD
You can download and unzip the ZIP files, and then burn the contents of the file on a
DVD to create your own 3104 Course DVDs, or unzip and copy the appropriate files
to the DA-HOST computer for the course.

Version 1
In this course, the instructor and each student in the class use a DA-HOST computer
to complete the exercises in the workbook.
The DA-HOST computer provides four virtual machines running in VMware
Workstation (maximum of 3 at a time), as illustrated in the following:
To set up the classroom with a DA-HOST computer for the instructor and each
student, do the following:
Minimum Requirements
Hardware
CD/DVD drive
Make sure that the host computer is actually utilizing the full 4 GB of
RAM. If not, exercises can run extremely slow or even stall a process.
Running the virtual machines in less than 4 GB of memory can significantly slow the
response time and possibly cause some problems (due to speed issues) with some of
the exercises.

Preparation
Because Novell is not allowed to ship virtual Windows machines, only an empty VM
is included on the second course DVD. You have to set up the machine manually.
If you do not own a valid Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft
Windows Server 2008 licence, you have to download a free trial version of
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (standard edition) from the Microsoft
Website. This version can be used for 60 days.
Burn the downloaded ISO file on a DVD.
Setup of DA-HOST
This machine will host the VMware virtual machines. To install DA-HOST, you can
use one of the following methods:
On the first course DVD there is a AutoYaST XML file for the installation of DAHOST available. You can find it in the Setup directory. Its called da-host.xml.
Depending on your hosts hardware, copy the file to another storage device:
