3104 Virtual Machine DVDs

DA-SLED, DA1, DA-OES and DA-WIN are four of the VMware virtual machines
that students use in class to complete the exercises. Because three of these virtual
machines use Novell software (SLED 11, SLES 11, OES 2), we pre-build these
machines for you.
NOTE: The virtual machine file for Microsoft Windows 2008 Server on the second 3104 Course
DVD contains no operating system. They are provided for you as a convenience when creating the
Windows virtual machines that students need to do the exercises in the workbook.

The virtual machines are provided in the Course Materials Web page in a zip file
format:

da-sled.zip

da1.zip

da-oes.zip

da-win.zip

Because these virtual machines are relatively large, we provide them as ZIP files for
easier downloading.

In this course, the instructor and each student in the class use a DA-HOST computer
to complete the exercises in the workbook.
The DA-HOST computer provides four virtual machines running in VMware
Workstation (maximum of 3 at a time), as illustrated in the following:
To set up the classroom with a DA-HOST computer for the instructor and each
student, do the following:

Review the DA-HOST Computer Setup Requirements on page 13

Review the DA-HOST Computer Setup Requirements

The following are the DA-HOST computer setup hardware and software
requirements:
Table Intro-2

DA-HOST Computer Setup Requirements

Setup

Minimum Requirements

Hardware

You need a host computer that meets the following requirements:

Pentium 4 - 2.8Ghz CPU (or faster)

Monitor and Graphics Card capable of displaying 1280x1024 (or

higher) resolution

4 GB (or more) RAM

60 GB (or more) hard disk drive

CD/DVD drive

Make sure that the host computer is actually utilizing the full 4 GB of
RAM. If not, exercises can run extremely slow or even stall a process.

Running the virtual machines in less than 4 GB of memory can significantly slow the
response time and possibly cause some problems (due to speed issues) with some of
the exercises.
