There had been a great devastation in Makawanpur district due
to the earthquake that occurred on 12 th and 29th of Baishakh, 2072. The earthquake caused a lot of damage in 35 VDCs including Hetauda Sub-metropolitan city and Thaha Municipality. After the catastrophe, the government of Nepal distributed 15000 rupees to the earthquake victims. Similarly, the government recently distributed warm clothes to them, particularly residing in 20 VDCs in the northern part of the district. However, no efforts have been made to reconstruct the houses of the victims though 10 months have been elapsed after the disastrous earthquake. Therefore, the earthquake victims are compelled to live in the small temporary houses and tents even during the freezing cold of winter. Moreover, the victims dwelling particularly in the northern part of the district (Thaha Municipality and different VDCs like Namtar, Phakhel, Tistung, Agra etc.) are forced to live a miserable life after the destruction of their houses. After the earthquake, grief stricken people have become homeless on the one hand and on the other hand the natural sources of water have been dried up and there is cracks everywhere in the places where they are dwelling. Therefore, they are still in fear and there is no way out for them than leaving their houses. Similarly, after the damage to the schools, the students are compelled to study either in the same damaged schools with fear or under the open sky. As the natural sources of water have turned out to be dry after the catastrophe, there is even no water for the toilets. In addition to this, people are forced to use the open area as a lavatory after the damage to the toilets in their houses and this has created severe problems to the victims and other people residing near the affected area. Due to the open defecation, there is fear of the spread of epidemics adding hazardous conditions to the grief stricken victims of earthquake. Awareness Campaign through Radio Programme in the Affected Villages
Radio is the easy medium to reach the every houses of the
earthquake victims. Through radio, spot talk will be made with the victims concerning the supply of clean drinking water, sanitation, problems they have been facing without the schools and houses in their locality and this talk can be recorded and radio programmes will be produced including the concerned authorities voices to solve the problems prevailing in the affected area. Similarly, the results will be more fruitful if open debate can be held in the affected area with the participation of the actual victims. Moreover, awareness campaign will be held in the affected villages through the wide participation of the experts in the related filed. Goals and Objectives of the Programme. Particularly, through this program, the family of victims is made aware about the risks involved after the devastation of the earthquake. Similarly, they can be informed about the things they need to follow, the precaution they to take for their protection, future preparation to save their life from the earthquake through radio and open debate programs in their locality. This program is helpful to aware the victims about health and sanitation. Similarly, this program helps to aware the people in affected area to build toilets in every houses and to create learning environment in the schools after the damage. This program also draw the attention of the concerned authorities and different NGOs to provide helping hands to the victims in the affected area. After the implementation of this one year program, the people residing in the rural areas will be benefitted especially in the field of sanitation, supply of clean drinking water and the reconstruction of the damaged schools. Preparation to Access the Program 1) Training is a must for at least 10 participants to conduct the program. 2) Training has to be conducted for the participants to produce radio programmes and to bring out the real problems of the victims. 3) Training becomes fruitful if it is done in the affected area through the wide participation of the local people practically.
4) To conduct radio programmes recorder and laptop is must
for the participants. Activities 1) Radio programmes will be produced and broadcast to eliminate the problems of the victims. 2) Awareness campaign will be launched at least in one affected VDC. 3) Local people will be given the answers from the concerned authorities concerning their problems after holding open debate programs. Format of the Radio Programmes 1) Radio programmes will be of one year. 2) 30 minutes radio programme will be broadcast either in the morning or evening time. 3) Radio programme will be produced going to the affected and meeting the victims, recording their original voices through interview, radio feature and vox pop. 4) 30 minutes radio programme will be formatted in the following ways: 3 minutesradio report 10 minutesspot radio feature 10 minutesinterview with the victims and the local people 7 minutes10 participants' vox pop Programmes 1) Radio programmes will be produced concerning the field of health, education, nutrition and child protection after the earthquake. 2) Providing information to the health centers on how to provide services to the public after the destruction. 3) The program will include the information on the efforts made by the District Education Office and concerned schools to regulate the learning environment of the schools in normal condition. 4) This program will create environment for the easy access to schools to those children who are unable to reach school after the devastation.
5) Information will be provided to the public on the attempts
taken and the role played by different government and non-government organization in the field of child protection. 6) This program includes the problems faced by the local people in the field of clean drinking water supply and sanitation and the attempts made by the concerned authorities to solve the problems.
