project
2- EQUIPMENT
By means of some measuring tools such as :
Cambridge Gauge
HI-LO Gauge
Fillet Weld Adjustment Size Gauge
Meters, Calipers,------------------ETC.
3- PERSONNEL
Personnel who carry out examination in accordance with this procedure shall be:
(a) Familiar with relevant standards, rules and specifications.
(b) Informed about the welding procedure to be used.
(c) Have good vision in accordance with the requirements of EN-970 ( ISO
17637), or equivalent which shall be checked every 12 months.
4- EXAMINATION CONDITIONS
(a) The illuminance at the surface shall be a minimum of 350 Lx. ( 500 Lx is
recommended)
(b) For performance of direct inspection, access shall be sufficient to place the
eye within 600 mm of the surface to be examined and at an angle not less than

1- Check all W.P.S. parameters such as: consumable type, size, current
characteristics, preheat temp, interpass temp, welding sequence, cleaning
between passes,-------------------etc.
2- Monitor distribution & reduce it by welding sequence & welder
distribution
III- VISUAL INSPECTION AFTER COMPLETE WELDING JOINTS:-
1- Check the weld cleaning from arc strikes, dirt's, spatters, etc.
2- Detect any discontinuity can be appeared on surface & affects service
performance such as porosity, under cut, over lap, cap height, crack,
under run, etc.
3- Determine sizes of defects by measuring tools available
4- Check dim., alignment, level, weld profile& size

7- VISUAL EXAMINATION OF REPAIRE WELDS
7.1 GENERAL
When welds fail to comply wholly or in part with the acceptance criteria, and repair
is necessary, the checks detailed in 7.2 and 7.3 shall made during repair operation.
7.2 PARTIALLY REMOVED WELD
It shall be checked that the excavation is sufficiently deep and long to remove all
defects.
It shall also be ensured that there is a gradual taper from the base of the cut to
the surface of the weld metal at the ends and sides of the cut, the width and
profile of the cut being such that there is adequate access for re-welding
7.3 COMPLETELY REMOVED WELD
It shall be checked that, when a cut has been made through a faulty weld and there
has been no serious loss of material, or when a section of materials containing a
faulty weld has been removed and a new section is to be inserted, the shape and
dimensions of the weld preparation meet the specified requirements.
7.4 EXAMINATION
Every repaired weld shall be examined to the same requirements as the original
weld, as specified in section 5
8- EXAMINATION RECORD:Visual inspection report (copy attached) will be prepared and signed by QA/QC
inspector, containing the visual inspection test results and interpretation of
indication if found.
