Ensure that personnel not involved in operations are kept clear of
working area. (OIM/VO)
Ensure there is sufficient clear space at both the point of embarkation
and the point of landing of the basket; a permanent basket transfer
landing area could be considered (OIM/VO)
Personnel training. (OIM/VO)
Supervised operations. (OIM/VO)
Appropriate authorization in place (OIM/VO)
Certified Equipment (OIM)
Protective equipment to be worn as per the above (operator)
Consideration given to environmental conditions prior to starting
transfer - No transfer to be undertaken in adverse weather conditions
(wind, rain etc.).
If the person being transferred is unhappy with the transfer
procedure, weather conditions, equipment or any other part of the
transfer process, then they have the right to not proceed with the
transfer (IMCA SEL 025/ M 202, 2014, p. 3)

No person suffering from acute seasickness or vertigo shall be
transported by basket, unless no other option is available (PC)
For injured or sick personnel (including the above): the affected person
should be put inside a stokes stretcher and the stretcher shackled to
the rigging in the area provided inside the unit; the person shall only be
transferred accompanied by at least one experienced person
(preferably two if possible) (OIM)
For first-time user- should be accompanied by an experienced
personnel (PC)
Supervised operations. (OIM/VO)
Protective equipment to be worn as per the above (operator)
Operators to ensure that safe loads are not exceeded (OIM)

Use of personnel transfer equipment for other duties is not allowed

No small objects to be held in hand or on shoulder (all items shall be

Look straight forward to avoid dizziness (operator)
Unlock the couple only when basket is safely positioned on deck

Exit the basket only on signal of responsible person (operator)
