meditatingonMahadevilikethis,thenreadtheHridaya.
OmKalika,primordialandterrifyingform,bestowerofthefruitofall
desires,hymnedbyallgods,destroymyenemies.
Hrim,youwhoaretheessenceofHrim,themostexcellentthinginthe
threeworlds,hardtoobtain,outofloveforme,denyanythingwhatsoever
tohewhomIname!
NowIspeakofthemeditation,Osupremeself,theessenceofnight.
Whoeverknowsthisbecomesliberatedwhilestillliving.
Meditateonherhavingdishevelledandmattedhair,decoratedwith
stringsofserpents,ahalfmoonasherdiadem,inunionwithMahakala.
Boongiver,visualisingherlikethiscausesallpeopletobecomeliberated

andfuneralpyres(3).Themantra,previouslyspokenof,shouldalwaysbe
wornonthebodydearest!

Kali,blackofbody,thesupremeself,wearingagarlandofskulls,large
eyed,causeofcreationanddissolution,selfofmaintenance,Mahamaya,
thepowerofyoga,theessenceofgoodfortune,thefemaleserpent,
intoxicatedwithwine,thesacrificialoffering,withthevaginaasher
banner,primordialone,alwaysninefold,terrifying,thegreatlyeffulgent
one,formidable,withacorpseashervehicle,SiddhiLakshmi,Niruddha,
Sarasvati.
Whoeverrecitesthisgarlandofnamesdailycausesmetobecometheir
slave.Maheshvari,thisistrue,true.
Kali,destroyeroftime,goddessofskeletalform,takingtheformofa
raven,blackerthanblack,IworshipyouODakshinaKalika!
IbowtoyouKalika,Maharaudri,fondofthenight,Devilikingkunda,gola
andsvayambhuflowers(4).
IbowtoyouDuti(5),theDuticausingyogatoarisefromsexual
intercourse,youwhoarethegreatDuti,fondofDutis,thesupremeDuti,
theLadyofYoga.

sprinklethemselveswithitdestroyalldisease.Thereisnoquestionabout

Thosewhoseekanyobjectwhochargesandalpastewiththegreat
mantraKrimSvahaandthenmakeaforeheadmarkofitbecomethemost
intelligentofpeople,andalwaysabletosubjugate.
Dearest,thosewhoofferunhuskedricewhilerecitingthemantraKrim
HramHrimseventimes,destroygreatworriesandobstacles,thereisno
doubtofit.
ThosewhopronouncethemantraKrimHrimHrumSvahaoverthe
cremationpyre,thenencirclethehouseoftheirenemieswiththeashes
killtheirenemies.
ThosewhooffersevenflowersandpronouncethemantraHrumHrim
Krimuproottheirfoes,nodoubtofit.
If,afterrecitingKrimKrimKrim,whileofferingunhuskedrice,itcausesthe
objectofattractiontoswiftlycomefromadistanceofeven1,000yojanas

ThosewhorecitethemantraKrimKrimKrimHrumHrumHrimHrimseven
times,purifyingwaterandmakingaforeheadmarkofit,deludethewhole
world.
Parameshani,thisHridayaisthedestroyerofallevil,amillionmillion
timesgreaterthanAshvamedhaandothersacrifices.Thefruititgivesis
onemillionmilliontimesbetterthantheofferingsgiventovirgins(7).Its
results,itissaid,aregreaterbyonemillionmillionthanthoseobtained
fromofferingtoDutis.
Itisamilliontimesgreaterthantheresultsobtainedfrombathinginthe
Gangesandothersacredwaters.Recitingitonlyoncebestowsthese

anxieties,infearfulterrifyingplaces,ifoneshouldrecitethisultimate
stotra.(oneisfreedfromthem)inaday.
Thisistrue,trueandagaintrue.Itshouldbehiddenlikeamother'syoni.

andwantedtocouplewithher.Butthatdidn'tmeetwiththeapprovalof
Shiva,whocutoffhisfifthhead.BrahmaandShivahadagreatfight,
