Reasons:
Questions format: The new PT3 format is quite challenging for most of the students as
they are not familiar and less exposure from the teacher.
For Paper 1, Section A, majority of the students cannot identify the 10 errors
although the reading passage is moderately prepared for them. Vocabularies
involved in the reading passage mostly are straight-forwards and recognizable as
frequently used vocabularies. Students also are not aware of the instruction which
stating that the first and the last line consist of no mistakes or errors. Other than
that, students also confused as spaces provided for students should have been
align with the error found in the text.
For Paper 1, Section B & C, the format tests students on reading comprehension
which is simpler and direct. However, students still cannot score in this section
due to carelessness and time constraint.
For Paper 2, the questions are rather direct and simple for both shorter and longer
writing tasks. However, most students are over anticipated which lead them to
write more and they tend to make even more mistakes.
Students anxiety level: Students feel nervous and expect difficulty on the day of exam
which leads to spilt attention while answering the text. They focus more on the format of
the exam questions instead of they own answers.
