Improves DB2 object availability and integrity by managing changes with integrity and performing
maintenance with minimal outages
Reduces costs of unloading, loading, and copying DB2 data by managing its own buffering, avoiding
unnecessary processing by processing objects in one pass, running outside of DB2, and eliminating the
need to execute the RUNSTATS utility, sort data, and reorganize indexes separately
Improves productivity by simplifying DB2 catalog navigation and change management, and by providing
an integrated table editor
Over time, insert, delete, and update activity cause DB2 table spaces and indexes to become disorganized.
Disorganized databases lead to transaction and batch performance degradation. You need to ensure
availability while maintaining data integrity.
BMC Database Performance for DB2 automates database maintenance and reduces unnecessary CPU
cycles. It determines which maintenance tasks are required and can execute those tasks automatically.
BMC Database Performance for DB2 uses triggers and statistics to generate reorganizations of the data
only when needed and can execute reorganizations without disrupting application access to the data. BMC
Database Performance for DB2 includes the following products:
Backup and recover DB2 for z/OS data with minimal or no outage
Downtime is expensive, and unplanned outages can have grave consequences. You need to be prepared to
recover quickly and get all applications back online. Because about 80 percent of database recoveries are
the result of user or application errors, you need a local backup plan as well as a disaster recovery plan.
BMC Recovery Management for DB2 provides integrated tools to back up and recover databases and to
analyze logs, including:
SQL statements provide access to DB2 data, and inefficient SQL causes performance problems for DB2 for
z/OS applications. Because performance problems increase costs and affect service levels to end users,
you must be able to manage SQL performance continuously, from initial development to production. When
performance problems occur, you need to find and fix them quickly.
BMC SQL Performance for DB2 enables you to pinpoint poorly performing SQL quickly and easily. It provides
tools to manage SQL performance across the application lifecycle. In development it validates SQL to ensure
optimal performance characteristics, such as valid access paths and best-practice SQL coding techniques.
In production it captures metrics to identify and resolve performance problems. BMC SQL Performance for
DB2 recommends optimal index usage, enables workload comparisons, and uses historical data to identify
performance trends. BMC SQL Performance for DB2 includes the following products:
Highlights the most expensive SQL statements and makes recommendations to improve performance,
Enables you to resolve SQL performance problems early in the application lifecycle, improving
performance and mitigating risk
Compares workload access paths to identify changes that occur when SQL is migrated across DB2
environments, enabling you to correct problems before they affect performance and availability
Analyzes index usage and models changes to indexing strategy, reducing costs and improving response
times
Identifies and helps resolve problems with table spaces and index spaces, improving performance
Gathers and manages historical performance data for trending and analysis
Identifies which DB2 objects need reorganization, evaluating both space usage and performance
metrics, thus reducing reorganizations
Monitors DB2 performance, issues early warnings, and drives automation to correct
exceptions, improving availability and reducing risk
Dynamically tunes buffer, EDM, sort, and RID pools in real-time to improve
performance and reduce risk of outages caused by unpredictable workload
fluctuations.
