Factory Farming—The Egg and Dairy Industries
Most eggs produced in the U.S., including those used by Dunkin’ Donuts, come from
laying hens who are so intensively confined, they can barely even move. These birds
are denied the ability to engage in vital natural behaviors, including spreading their
wings, nesting, and even walking. This is the miserable reality for the more than 250
million hens crammed inside wire cages in the U.S. each year.
The dairy industry is also cruel to animals. After giving birth, mothers are torn from their
calves and hooked up to machines that take the milk intended for their young. Male
calves don’t produce milk, and are often relegated to barren crates so small, they cannot
even turn around. After four or five months of misery, they are killed and sold as veal.
The animals don’t have a choice. We do!
