schools entire student body came
together to arrange red and green
plastic cups in the schools fence
to spell out the message Osage

in our opinion

Welcome home, Chris Christie!

With bid for presidency done, our governor can now just be our governor
hampagne wishes and caviar
dreams are no longer in the
head of our Gov. Christie. Last
week, following a disappointing sixthplace finish in the New Hampshire primary, Christie did what many thought
was inevitable for quite awhile now
he suspended his bid for the presidency.
Four years ago, when Christie made
it official that he would not seek the Republican nomination in the 2012 election opposite President Obama, it
seemed as though our governor would,
at the very least, be a leading candidate
in 2016. But following the Bridgegate
scandal and fights over the states pension, voters soured on him.
The surprising rise of Donald
Trump, and others, was the final blow

Your thoughts
What are your thoughts on Gov. Christies
remaining years of his final term as governor? Share your thoughts on this, and
other topics, through a letter to the editor.

to Christies presidential aspirations.

He performed poorly in the Iowa
caucuses, which wasnt unexpected,
but all along, he was banking his campaign on success in New Hampshire.
When he finished with just 7 percent of
the vote last week, good for sixth best
among Republicans, the final nail was
hammered in his coffin.
Now, Christie returns to New Jersey
to assume his full-time duties of gover-

nor. That will be good for us or will

it?
Christie will serve out the remaining two years of his second term as a
lameduck governor. Between now and
2017, with no further political ascension in sight, he will be forced to deal
with a Legislature that has its sights
set on policies that will reach far beyond his term in office.
How much Christie will be able to
accomplish in the remainder of his
term, and just how much influence he
can exert, is questionable, at best.
Christie went for it all, and came up
short. Now, hes coming back home to
pick up the pieces.
Heres to hoping hell be more humble in the coming years and think of
New Jersey first.

Veterans Wall of Honor applications being accepted

On Oct. 20, 2014, Voorhees Township
proudly started a new tradition with the
unveiling of the Voorhees Township Veterans Wall of Honor. The Wall, which is located in the Voorhees Municipal Building
at the Voorhees Town Center, honors residents or members of immediate families of
residents who have served in the United
States military, whether during peacetime
or war.
Over the last two years, the response to
the Wall has been remarkable. More than
300 veterans have submitted applications
and are memorialized on the Wall.
Voorhees Township is very proud to honor
these men and women for the sacrifices
they made in leaving home, family and
friends to give of themselves for our country.
The Voorhees Veterans Wall is unique in
that it offers more than just a name. Each
veteran is honored with a plaque that includes his/her name, branch of service,

date and place of

service,
awards/medals received, a photo, and
if desired, a brief
personal note about
his/her service.
Voorhees plans
to continue this tradition and is now
accepting applications for 2016.
Eligibility
is
open to the following people:

Applications may be obtained at the Office of the Township Clerk in the municipal building located at 2400 Voorhees Town
Center or may be downloaded from the

family.
With
Brooke
undergoing
chemotherapy and set to begin
the second cycle of her treatment
on Feb. 11, the Osage community
decided to let Brooke know she
had its support.
The Osage community started
a GoFundMe online fundraising
page for Brooke and her mother,
which at the time of the Feb. 10
event had already raised nearly
$10,000 and exceeded its original
goal.
Money was also raised by students at the school by paying $1
per cup to make the sign, although the amount of money
raised there also far exceeded expectations.
Brooke has been known
throughout the communities
shes lived in for her charitable
endeavors, such as her Brookes
Toy Closet projects in which shes
held gift drives to bring in donations of toys for hospitalized children.
Osage Parent Faculty Association member Tricia Chadwick
said with Brooke and her mother
holding several fundraisers over
the years for cancer research and
to support those other than themselves, the Osage community
wanted to do something specifically for Brooke and her mom.
They always funneled every-

thing they got to everybody else

and to cancer research and neuroblastoma and her toy closet, so
we wanted to do something just
for them, Chadwick said.
In addition to the money
raised, Brooke and her mother
were presented with a new bike
for Brooke, a new grill for the
family and a gift basket full of
several other donations such as
stuffed animals, toys, treats,
warm clothes and more.
This event I think was just
more about us as a school and
community coming together and
just saying we loved her and just
saying we loved them and that
was it, said Osage PFA member
Chrissy Beswick. We wanted as
much good to come from that as
possible, and its been amazing.
On the day of the event, Mulford said she didnt know what to
expect and was told only that the
school was planning something
special for Brooke. Upon her and
Brookes arrival, Mulford said
she and Brooke were completely
blown away by the message and
donations.
She praised the Osage community for welcoming Brooke in the
ways it has since Brooke first enrolled at the school. Mulford said
she and Brooke didnt know what
to expect when first starting at
Osage, as Brookes previous
school was a small, private Christian school in Maryland.
With Osage being significantly
bigger, the two were afraid
Brooke would become lost in the

shuffle and they would never

have that closeness again with
their school, but Mulford said
Osage ended up being nothing
but amazing.
Honestly, since day one, the
students, the teachers, the entire
administration, Im really speechless. Osage loves Brooke, they really do, Mulford said.

Voorhees. Another event takes
place on Monday, March 14 at 6:30
p.m. at the Gloucester County Library Mullica Hill Branch, 389
Wolfert Station Road.
Stroke Prevention: Wellness Facts You Need to Know
Doctors might recommend a
carotid artery procedure for those
who have already had a stroke, a
TIA, or if blockage of their
carotid artery is severe. The goal
of this procedure is to keep blood

flowing to ones brain, which

helps prevent strokes. Join this
event to learn preventative techniques and if this procedure is
right for ones case.
The event takes place on Tuesday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. at
Kennedy University Hospital, 435
Hurffville-Cross
Keys
Road,
Sewell, in the third-floor classroom.
Kennedy is a health services
delivery system serving the communities of southern New Jersey.
Kennedy meets the communitys
health-care needs at its hospital
campuses in Cherry Hill, Stratford and Washington Township,
and at outpatient facilities
throughout Camden and Gloucester counties.
Registration is necessary to attend all event listed. Visit
www.kennedyhealth.org, or call 1800-547-9007 and select option No.
3 to reserve a spot.
