Arts. And yes, its THAT Marlon
Wayans of White Chicks, Scary Movie 1
& 2, Requiem for a Dream, and In Living
Color. Hell be stopping in Fresno to take
the stage as part of his Scandal-Less Comedy Tour on March 31st at 8pm.

Much like other major acts, there
wont be any local performers supporting
the bill. You can expect to see Marlon for
most of the evening, with an opening act
by Chaunte Wayans. And in case youre
wondering, the name is no coincidence; she
is the niece of the famous Wayans brood.

Marlon Wayans is known for his
high-energy off-kilter humor, earning him
plenty of major film roles throughout his
career, so we have a sense of what to expect
from his stand-up routine. But unless youre
hanging out in the clubs of LA, you wont
already be primed for what to expect from

An everyday use oil
eople often ask me what oils

I consider to be go to oils.
Frankincense, without a doubt, is
on that list. I consider it a daily use oil
for many reasons. First, lets talk about the
history of this dynamic oil.

Frankincense, also known as
olibanum, got its name from the
medieval French word for real incense.
It has long been considered the holy
anointing oil in the Middle East. It has
been used in religious ceremonies for
thousands of years in various cultures.
In the time of Christ, it was well known
for its anointing and healing powers.
Frankincense was also one of the gifts
given to Christ at his birth, along with
myrrh and gold. Frankincense was valued
more than gold during ancient times,
and only those with great wealth and
abundance possessed it. There are more
than 52 references to frankincense in
the Bible. It is often called just plain
incense, but most historians feel that the
generic use of the term incense probably
meant frankincense.

In medical circles, it has also
been described as used to treat every
conceivable ill known to man. It is
mentioned in one of the oldest known
medical records including Ebers Papyrus
(dating from 16th century BC) an ancient
Egyptian list of 877 prescriptions and
recipes. Frankincense has a long life in the
healing and medical practices.

Some of the medicinal
properties of frankincense include: antitumoral, anti-depressant, stimulates the
immune system, and can relax muscles.
Frankincense has also been studied for its
ability to regenerate cells and ability to
combat cancer growth.

Some of the things frankincense
is used for today include: depression,
prevent and reduce growth of cancer,
respiratory infections, inflammation, and
boost the immune system.

Frankincense contains
sesquiterpenes, which stimulate the
limbic system of the brain (the center
of memory and emotions) and the
hypothalamus, pineal, and pituitary
glands. The hypothalamus is considered to
be the master glad of the human body. It
produces many vital hormones including
thyroid and growth hormone.Because
of the sesquiterpenes and their impact
on the emotional centers of our brain,
frankincense is also used to increase
spiritual awareness, promote meditation,
improve attitude, and uplift spirit. It can
make your body feel happy and healthy
both inside and out.

Frankincense can be used in a
variety of ways. It can be diffused, inhaled
directly, applied topically, or ingested as a
dietary supplement.

Given its ability to promote
health in a physical, emotional and
spiritual manner, you can easily see why
I consider frankincense one of my go to
oils. I admit that it is expensive (if you are
purchasing a pure therapeutic-grade oil.)
However, considering the punch that this
oil contains and the impact it can make
on every area of your life, it is definitely
worth the investment in my opinion.

Baked Catfish in
Papillotes
A professionally cooked seafood recipe using

to no-muss, no-fuss baking. After all, many chefs
know that baking with parchment paper is key
for moist cookies, brownies, cakes and other
sweet treats.

Do you also think of using parchment
paper for meats, seafood, pizza, soup, fondue,
vegetables and more? You should the tool is
practically limitless. It can be used in dozens of
dishes with the simplest clean-up. Plus, unlike
wax paper or plastic wrap, parchment paper
doesnt melt onto your food. Check out a savory
catfish recipe using parchment paper and U.S.
Farm-Raised Catfish:
Baked Catfish in Papillotes

2 U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish fillets
2 celery ribs, cut into long strips
1 large carrot, peeled and cut into long strips
1 medium red onion, sliced
14 cup olive oil
2 large sheets parchment paper
3 tablespoons dry white wine
1 lemon, juiced
2 tablespoons clam juice
1 large tomato, chopped (seeded)
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
1 teaspoon fresh dill, chopped

1 teaspoon fresh tarragon, chopped
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
12 teaspoon salt
12 teaspoon ground black pepper
1. Preheat oven to 400 F. Bring small pot

of water to boil. Add celery and carrots; cook
1 minute. Remove and place in bowl under
running cold water. Dry on paper towel.
2. Cut 2 sheets of large parchment paper
into a 20 by 20 inch square; fold in half and
lightly crease. Unfold paper; lightly brush one
side of each paper with olive oil. Divide celery,
carrots and onion evenly into a small pile on
one-half of each paper. Place one fillet on top
of each. Lightly fold up edges to create a small,
bowl-like vessel.
3. In a mixing bowl, combine wine, lemon
juice and clam juice. Drizzle each fillet with
3 tablespoons of mixture, ensuring that it is
contained in the paper. Place half the chopped
tomato over each fillet and sprinkle half of each
fresh herb over tomatoes. Season with salt and
pepper.
4. Fold parchment paper over fillet and
vegetables. Beginning at the creased corner,
start folding the edges over one-half inch.
Continue until paper is a series of tight,
overlapping folds, creating what is known as a
papillote.
5. Place papillotes on large baking sheet.
Bake 11 minutes or until bags are nicely puffed
and slightly browned.

Debuts in Fresno opening for sold-out Trivium show.
n February 2nd of this year, the music

scene was roaring from wall to wall at
Fulton 55 and The Artourages sold out
event. Patrons flooded the venue in anticipation;
waiting for the moment that Trivium would take
the stage. But the glory wasnt all just theirs, the
show was supported by some of Fresnos own
locally bred talent and they certainly captured
the crowd.

Storming in to the spotlight was A
Mirror Hollow, currently a Los Angeles based
band, but fueled by Fresno grown talent.
Members Ricardo (guitar), Harry (bass) and
Chris (drums) are predominately Fresno locals
who spent a number of years playing in the local
music scene prior to joining A Mirror Hollow.

However, their new venture has led them to
move their talents to LA, which prolonged their
opportunity to perform in their hometown since
the project had launched in 2013.

When asked what it felt like to not
only have a chance to play their first hometown
show, but to open for a world-renowned band to
a sold out crowd, Ricardo had this to say,

Last time any of us local guys had
performed in town had to have been about 3
years ago. It had really been a long time since
we saw any Fresno stages and well, we had been
itching to debut in our hometown for some
time. Then almost out of nowhere we got the
call that Trivium had picked us to be one of only
two locals to provide direct support for them at
the Fresno stop and well we just couldnt say no!
We were very, very excited to do this show and
seeing the magnitude of what it was going to be
only made it even better.

Without the availability and access to
concentrate on heavily promoting their identity
to this Central Valley scene, the response from
the crowd could have been luke warm. But it
wasnt. The audience pressed the stage and welcomed them with open arms.

The crowd was simply the best part
about the entire night. Playing
a show with a world-renowned
band, at a phenomenal venue,
in front of our family, friends
and a whole host of new faces
was simply the perfect storm.
The energy, the intensity, the
moshing, the crowd surfing, the
chanting, the singing it made
up this force. this roar that I
have never felt before. Even
though most people there had
never even heard of us, they all rocked out with

us as if they had heard every single one of our
songs before. I had never seen a crowd like that
before and I certainly cant wait to play in front
of another crowd like that again! Thank you
Fresno!

A Mirror Hollow earned the crowds
enthusiasm with their driving melodies, irresistible hooks; thudding rhythms and intense,
brooding vocals. It comes as no surprise that
the audience was swept over with newfound
fandom.

Currently, the guys are focusing on
finishing their sophomore EP. The band will be
spending a lot of time down in LA with their
producer, Augustus Cryns, to finish things it up.
The group is currently halfway done and anticipates a late spring release. Afterwards, theyll hit
the road, theres no sign of a tour yet but there is
hope that one will be organized in the near future, and concentrate on promoting their music
around the west coast. Of course, Fresno is on
the list for more repeat performances.

Kinzie Rose
Ready to sing before she could walk.
hen most teenagers are worrying

about homework, friends, tests and
curfews, Kinzie Rose is stepping in
to the recording studio, taking up the stage and
sharing her gift with the world.

At 15 Kinzie Rose has already built
a solid resume for herself; co-writing and recording the theme song to Turn it Up Tuesdays
for KSEE 24, performing at the New Years
Eve Ball Drop with Nathaniel Livingstone of
IManageStars, Summer Slam which was put
on by Le Mode with Montana Paxton, as well
as the recent Mardi Gras Parade in the Tower
District under Laura Splotch. And this is just
to name a few of her accomplishments.

Kinzies voice is a blend of the aforementioned soul with a touch of jazz with the
range to bring the soft sorrow of blues, it suggests an age and depth that is hard to believe
when realizing its coming from someone so
young. Her talent is raw and seemingly untethered in emotionally driven songs, but can
blend beautifully, accenting the most musically
layered of compositions.

Kinzie performs a variety of cover
materials from artists like Adele, Hozier, and
Amy Winehouse, but she also writes her own
material. Some would argue that age and experience play a big role in what makes for any
great song, but Kinzie isnt worried about that.
Yes experience plays a big part but you are
also a part of other peoples lives and struggles
too. I listen to [them] even if theyre not what
society deems good. We all have a story within
us, and you can learn from just listening.

Music also seems to be in her blood,
as her family has quite the impressive history.
Two of her great uncles have played, recorded
and toured with the likes of Country greats

such as Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Central Valleys own Buck Owens. Kinzies talent
showed up fairly early, singing at a young age
of 4, belting out Tracy Chapman songs that her
mother, Jullie, would play for her.

Kinzie has worked with Matt Hotep,
whom they consider the best, and had her vocally train with multi Grammy award winning
vocal coach Brad Chapman. But Hotep was the
one who set the drive, ambition and the wellformed conditioning to the industry in place
for Kinzie early on.

Currently, Kinzie is under the professional management of Courtney Murray Hill,
but still refers to her mom as her manager.
Jullie books Kinzies shows and maintains a
guiding hand as her daughter moves further
and further up in to the industry. If you want
