Grouping shall be carried out within each Thesis Candidates
respective block section. No group shall comprise of members
coming from different sections unless a unanimous approval from
the Advisers and the Thesis Chairman is first secured.
TYPES OF THESIS PROPOSAL

interface computing machines to application programs that
should make the development and execution of the
application program faster, easier
to use, and utilize the resources efficiently
a running program on any storage media is
required output.
Example works are:

software drivers for an existing hardware

assemblers/compilers
communications programs
line monitoring programs
operating systems
utility programs running under an existing application
program

APPLICATIONS SOFTWARE
includes the development of computer programs
related to concepts, theories, and methodologies
preferably in the field of computer science and
information technology
a running program on any storage media is a required
output
Example works are:
simulation programs for the evaluation of digital or
microprocessor-based systems,

structural analysis, chemical reaction, etc.

computer-aided design (CAD) for electronic/computer

systems, mechanical design, chemical formulation, etc.

expert systems

HARDWARE SYSTEMS
the development and implementation of digital
electronic circuits for specific applications
pure analog circuit projects are not allowed

MICROPROCESSOR-BASED SYSTEMS

the design of circuits and systems using a

microprocessor as the central auxiliary processing and control
unit for a particular application
a prototype of the working system is a required
output
Example works are:
microcomputer systems
process controllers and process control applications

intelligent data acquisition systems

multiprocessor systems

electronic consumer products

robotics

DATA COMMUNICATION AND NETWORKING SYSTEMS

includes the data communication and computer

networking aspect of computer engineering, i.e., on
the transmission of
digital information between two distant
locations

a prototype of the running system is a

required output

Example works are:

multiplexers and modems
local area network systems and interfaces
network performance analyzers
digital telephony

BASIC OR FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH

concentrates on the study, analysis, formulation and
proving of new ideas, concepts, theories,
algorithms, or methodologies in the computer
science/information technology discipline which
should be proven as correct by mathematical proofs,
statistical analysis, or a running prototype.

the output normally is just a paper

Examples are:

new algorithms

new architectures for multiprocessor systems

performance analysis of new existing

algorithms

COMMISSIONED SOFTWARE
involves the development of application programs
tailored to fit the needs of a specific institution,
and that may be paid for and will be used by them .
IV. PANEL OF JURORS

The Panel of Jurors that will evaluate each Thesis Proposal shall
be composed of three individuals, all coming from the faculty of
the DHVTSU , College of Computer Studies

The Panel shall comprise of One Chairman and two members.

Schedule of Jurors shall not be disclosed to the Thesis

Candidates, or among the Jurors themselves. Such schedule shall
be prepared by the Thesis Chairman.

V. THESIS BOOK

The University Research Manual Standards will be strictly

followed as general format which is American Psychological
Association (APA).

Thesis book must be presented in a formal and organized

manner. Proper and standard contents and requirements must
be observed with respect to Thesis Writing requirements.
Plagiarizing or reproduction of past theses is therefore
strongly discouraged.

During deliberation three sets of photocopy must be

presented to the panelist.

After the deliberation, and reproofing of the documents. All

Thesis Books must be properly hard bound with cover in silver
gray only.

VI. DELIBERATION REQUIREMENTS

Each Thesis Candidate should be scheduled for Mock Oral

Presentation and Defense

Each Thesis Candidate should submit their

Recommendation Letter from their respective Advisers for
Final Deliberation

VII. MANNER OF DELIBERATION.

Each Thesis Candidate is expected to come promptly at the

Deliberation Room on his scheduled day of defense. He shall
be expected to wear business or corporate attire with
corresponding nameplate and must appear neat and
presentable.

Any Thesis Candidate or Group who comes late for his

scheduled deliberation, thereby, causing unnecessary delay in
the entire schedule, shall be dealt with appropriate
sanctions.
Hereunder are the following sanctions for the delay caused by
the Candidates:

10 mins.
average

deduction of 5 points from the general

20 mins.
average.

deduction of 10 points from the general

30 mins.
:
re-scheduled deliberation at a later date
with
the highest possible grade of 75.
The official time shall be governed by the Thesis Council. It is
thus advised that time must be synchronized with that of the
official time prior to the deliberation schedule.

Each group shall be given a total deliberation time of a maximum

of three(3) hours , broken down as follows:
Uninterrupted Presentation and Discussion of Proposal
(Document and System)
45 mins.
Question and Answer and other queries about the Proposal 1 hr.
System Evaluation

1 hr. 15 mins.

It is further emphasized that Thesis Candidates should be at the site

of the deliberation 30 minutes before their call time.

Members of the Jury may raise questions only after the first 45
minutes have elapsed. Since a strict compliance to the schedule is
recommended, the Thesis Chairperson shall be the arbiter between
the thesis proponent and members of the jury in the event that too
much time is consumed on one area of the Proposal. The Thesis

Chairperson, therefore, has the authority to advise his fellow Jurors

to rephrase or re-direct their questions or, to eventually move on to
the next aspect or area of the Proposal so as not to cause further
delay.

The Thesis Chairman shall be tasked to remind his fellow Jurors

about the time remaining for each Group so that they will be made
aware of how many number of questions to be asked.

Any Proponent who reports on deliberation day with insufficient

thesis requirements, hardware devices, and system failure may be
eligible for possible disqualification or an automatic failing grade.

VIII. GRADING SYSTEM

The Thesis Chairman shall release a copy of a Sample Evaluation

Sheet at a proper time to the Thesis Candidates for them to know
the different areas of evaluation as well as the relative weight (in
percentage) that each area covers.

Re-defense shall not be accepted. Thesis works shall be evaluated

only as passed or failed. Projects requiring minor revision works
shall also be given a grade based on the discretion of the jurors
involved for the area of evaluation affected. This is a case wherein
the juror could withhold grade on a specific area pending
submission of lacking requirements or pending revision works on
the said area.

IX. WORKING COMMITTEES AND THESIS FEES

To mobilize the thesis deliberation activities, the Thesis Advisers

shall meet the Candidates and shall mutually agree upon the
amount of Thesis Fee to be collected. Proceeds of the said fee shall
be utilized for the various expenses that are expected to be
incurred.

Savings on the said Thesis Fee shall be spent for a Project that the
Candidates shall decide upon as a form of donation to the College of
Computer Studies (CCS).

XI. TIMETABLE FOR SUBMITTALS

The Gantt chart and Time table of Project activities will be submitted
to the Thesis chairman, one (1) week after the general assembly of
the Proponents. The Progress Report will be signed by the Thesis
Adviser(s) with complete proof of evidences and documents. No late

submittals will be accepted beyond the scheduled date, failure to do

so will mean a disqualification or failing grade.
