SALES TRIPLE OF
NEW CORDLESS
SLIDING INTEGRAL
BLIND SYSTEM
FROM MORLEY
GLASS

ales of an integral blind

Glass & Glazing 12 months
ago have tripled.
The cordless sliding integrated

Uni-Blind
blind
system (SL20SV), which utilises
ScreenLine technology, has outsold its sales forecast by three
times, achieving extra sales of 6760
units of this system in the last 12
months.
The SL20SV gives fabricators and
installers the scope to provide
windows and doors featuring a
truly user-friendly operating control
system. Only one device - a cleverly
designed magnetic slider - is used
to both raise and tilt the slats.
Ian Short, managing director at
Morley Glass & Glazing said:
Traditionally integrated blinds are
operated using an external cord

and this remains our most popular

system. However, weve been
pleasantly surprised how popular
this new cordless system has been.
One of the benefits has been that
the slider is so sleek and slim that
it is ideal for sliding and bi-fold
doors. Another plus is the fact that
like all our integral blind systems
the SL20SV is available with just 10
day lead times from any Friday.
Like all Uni-Blinds, the SL20SV
sliding system provides a low
maintenance and contemporary
feature for any double glazed
window or door and is available
in 10 different colours, including
the exclusive anthracite grey (S159)
from Morley Glass.
The integral blinds are assembled
and permanently sealed within the
double glazing cavity which comes
with a warm edge spacer bar as
standard to offer optimum thermal

insulation. Once sealed in this

totally dust-free environment, the
blinds require no cleaning, always
appear new and are protected from
damage.
The SL20SVs external magnetic
slider is also treated with the
patented Sanitized anti-bacterial
finish, which provides a longlasting protective function ideal
for domestic and commercial
applications.
The operational reliability of UniBlinds has been proven in the
market for more than 25 years
which is backed by a five-year
warranty. Uni-Blinds sealed units
are supplied in the same way as
standard sealed units and are also
backed by Morley Glass & Glazings
excellent after sales service, plus the
UKs largest range of ScreenLine
spares.

installation company is now using TruFit in all
whole house installations.
Customers like the neat finish they get with TruFit.
There are no trims, bobbly silicone or paint lines and
thats got us a few word of mouth recommendations
already, says Steve Hugill, Partner at Weruwise.
Our installation teams are impressed too. Because
theres no need for them to add a trim it saves them
time as well as looking neater. They dont have to
use messy silicone or PU foam either.
Its easy to fit around the window and then it
expands to fill any gaps between the frame and the
surround. The fitters also like Edgetechs specially
designed belt to go round the roll of TruFit to keep
it secure.
Weruwise has used Super Spacer for 9 years, so
when Edgetech brought out TruFit they were keen
to try it. Steve adds: Were always on the lookout
for ways to make us more professional. TruFit
definitely fits the bill. Its the future.

20-YEAR VISION LEADS TO UNIQUE CHURCH RESTORATION

n ambition going back decades has led to the

stunning restoration of a large, derelict Grade
II church into 82 studio apartments, many
completely within the original early 18th Century
church building, with more than 200 windows made
from the Spectus Elite 70 system.
Lyndon Forshaw of restoration specialists the
Forshaw Group explained: Ive been driving past
the church for as long as I can remember, seeing
it deteriorate over the last 20 years, and I always
thought it would be great to be able to rescue and
redevelop it.
To the passer-by, the former Holy Trinity Church
in the centre of Bolton looks as it has for nearly
two centuries. The entire exterior has been kept
virtually intact, including its highly ornate stained
glass windows, with apartments created entirely
within the original shell, as well as many others in a
bespoke modern building at the back of the church.
An integral part of the restoration is more than
200 high-specification windows using the Spectus
Elite 70 bevelled system, which were used in
both the restored church and the adjoining new
building. Because of the unique construction of the
building within a building, many of windows in the
church actually look out onto the original windows
from the inside. The white and grey casements
were fabricated and installed by Jade Windows of
Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, on the recommendation
of main contractor Colbre Projects.
It was a privilege for us to be involved with
this restoration project, said Ryan Fozard of Jade
Windows. The windows and doors we installed
looked marvellous against the old building and
make a feature on the envelope of the new modern
build.
Lyndon Forshaw, whose father was actually one of
the bell ringers at Holy Trinity, concluded: I always
loved the church building in the first place and
when we were offered the chance to acquire it only
then began to look at how we could make it viable
and the type of development that would work.

ENTRIES OPEN FOR REHAU

INSTALLATION OF THE YEAR

ntries are now open for the 2015 REHAU

Installation of the Year competition
and REHAU installers are being invited
to submit photos of their most exciting and
inspiring domestic installations from the past
12 months.
A new website is now live at www.rehau.
co.uk/competition where installers can see
the criteria for submitting entries, post their
photos and get lots of useful tips and advice.
REHAU is hoping to see as broad a mix of
projects as possible in the entries from tiny
cottages to sprawling mansions, and from
vertical sliders to multi-fold doors. New builds,
renovations, replacements and extensions can
all be included the only restriction is that
the projects should be domestic rather than
commercial because REHAU is planning a
separate commercial competition in the Spring
of 2016.

19 |September 2015 | www.mytrade.tv

Every company which submits an entry will

get a prize from REHAU and the overall winner
will receive a digital SLR camera as well as the
prestigious title of REHAU Installation of the
Year.
Kate Whitehead, REHAUs Product Assistant,
who is organising the competition says: The
response to our first ever competition in 2014
was great but this time around we want to
encourage even more customers to take part.
Weve put together our top tips for getting
the best pics on the website and weve even
included some of the best shots from last year
to provide some inspiration.
The closing date for submitting entries to
the competition is 23rd November, and four
shortlisted projects will then be announced on
1 December, after which the voting will open
on the REHAU website for visitors to choose
their favourite. The winning project will be
announced in January.

Will there

am increasingly hearing stories about companies in

our industry who are struggling to find installers to
fulfil orders they are winning as the market continues
to boom.

do not seem able to attract young people to it as a

career there are far more exciting prospects for them
elsewhere it seems. But the window industry has great
longevity and there will always be work.

In truth people have spoken for many years about the

possibility of shortages in installer numbers, but for
the most part it has been dismissed as urban myth something which would never happen. But the reality
is it is happening; and more companies are waking up
to the fact that they are struggling to get good fitters.
There is no upside to this at all; it is not only individual
companies which will suffer the industry as a
whole will suffer. As installers retire and new fitters
dont come through the industry will start to decline;
without the qualified, experienced fitter being around
to mentor and train newcomers who have a genuine
interest in the Industry there will inevitably be an
increase in installation problems leading to costly
rectification work and reputatonal damage for the
industry. Consumers will inevitably spend their money
in other home improvement sectors before they think
about windows and doors.

What we need to do is to educate young people to the

fact that the window industry is a great place to be,
an industry where there are great rewards and where
with the right commitment from employers they can
undertake genuine apprenticeships and learning which
will stand them in good stead for later in life.
I firmly believe that if the industry invests in training
and qualifications it will get its rewards in terms of
attracting enough new blood to sustain it over the
long term, and will avoid the pitfalls which have been
suffered by many other industries over time.

Attractive styling coupled with ease of fitting were

factors of paramount importance when designing this
patio door handle range, says Hardware Category
Manager Mark Frain. The new handle features a more
modern and contemporary design of grip, which is only
for Synseal customers. We have also removed the star
head screw on the rear of our handle (which had to be
un-screwed to remove the lever) and replaced this with
an Allen key. We have tested this extensively and are
happy that it is a robust method and more user-friendly,
especially when changing the handing from left to right
which is no longer a difficult job. We chose 4mm for the
Allen key head as this is a size which is commonly used
to adjust door locks and other hardware.

Exercise Can Be Fun

oull hear various excuses and reasons

why someone doesnt have the time or
motivation to take regular exercise. But
there is always time to exercise, its usually
just a matter of cutting out some other less
important activities from your daily routine.
Take a minute right now to think about what
you could replace with a little more gym time.
In fact you could just watch 30 minutes less TV
in the evening and extend the walk with your
dog by an extra half hour. You probably wont
start to feel the benefits straight away but
after 3 or maybe even 6 months youll be glad

42 |September 2015 | www.mytrade.tv

that you made that small and simple change

in your lifestyle.
Your job may or may not involve lots of
activity, so when you get home you may just
feel like sitting down and chilling out but
that extra half hour of exercise, whether its in
the gym or otherwise will make a difference
over time. Good habits are formed over time
so its important to realise that what you do
today really does matter. So dont put off until
tomorrow what you can do today.

DDP TRIPS THE LITE FANTASTIC

ecorative Door Products (DDP) by RegaLead

is pleased to announce the launch of a
new range of products designed to bring
stunning decorative glass designs to the popular
grid cassette.
Paul Edwards, Market Manager for the DDP division
explains: There has been huge growth in the
use of decorative glass as a real differentiator,
particularly within the composite market, but one
area in which this has been historically overlooked
in the retail sector is the grid cassette. With the
new GridLite system, however, our customers can
now offer a decorative glass solution to match
the popular Georgian look of heritage and period
properties.
Traditionally the grid cassette has incorporated
a standard patterned double glazed unit, but the
problem here was visibility of the back of the bars.
DDPs GridLite system range makes it possible to
create the appearance of false separates for a more
retail orientated finish in the popular half glazed,
moon and half arch shapes as well as for the new
three-quarter, 12 lite grid.
The insulated glass unit features an internal grid
pattern, created with a back to back aluminium
spacer system to create the look of individual glass
units which match up perfectly with the astragal
bars on the cassette, whether it be supplied by
ODL, Nan-Ya or Door-Stop, as the full range of
production templates have already been produced.
As well as standard pattern backing glass from
the complete Pilkington Texture range there is
the option of the new GridLite Etch, which uses
selectively sandblasted glass with clear borders
which follow the shape of bars, creating the
illusion of bevelled edge satin glass.

The sunburst and Georgian effect have

been popular door styles in the timber
market for over a century and look equally
as good on a traditional Victorian property
as a modern home.
44 |September 2015 | www.mytrade.tv

Paul continues: The sunburst and Georgian effect

have been popular door styles in the timber market
for over a century and look equally as good on a
traditional Victorian property as a modern home.
With the GridLite system, composite door producers
can now offer this style in retail composite doors at
competitive prices, and with our three-day delivery
guarantee, on short lead times.

'NO OTHER SLIDER COMES CLOSE' TO

DECEUNINCK'S NEW SLIDING PATIO DOOR

eceuninck launches its innovative New Sliding

Patio Door System. Its designed to lead in weather
performance, security and energy efficiency. It
suites with Deceunincks pretty windows and is available
from stock in Deceunincks extensive colour range.
We set our design team the challenge of creating a
new slider that blows our competitors products out
of the water, says Roy Frost, Deceuninck Managing
Director. We specified the best looks, the best weather
and energy performance. We wanted it to be strong and
secure. And easy to fabricate and install. And theyve
done it. Our new Sliding Door ticks all the boxes!
The New Deceuninck Slider achieves Class A4 air
permeability with a rating of 600Pa, Class E8A water
permeability with a rating of 450Pa and, to keep out
the draughts, Class A3 wind resistance with a rating of
1200Pa.
These ratings are outstanding, Roy emphasises. Water
permeability of 450Pa is staggering our nearest
competitor achieves only 150Pa. And 1200Pa wind
rating is also best in class. It achieves an A+ Door Set
Energy Rating (DSER). Best of all, it sailed through PAS24
security testing, so its ready for Document Q. This comes
into force October 2015 and affects both new build and
extensions.
No other Slider comes close, but great performance is
only half the story, continues Roy. Getting a patio door
in a colour other than white, Rosewood or Golden Oak
usually means an eight week lead time or more, because
no other Systems Company stocks all the slow-moving
colour options. But weve added all of the profiles to
our extensive colour-from-stock range, which now has
26 different colourways. So, Deceuninck fabricators can
supply coloured sliding patio doors, with all matching
trims and ancillaries, on the same short delivery lead
times as casement windows. Let me say that again:
26 colourways to the installer, on all our doors and
windows, on a short lead time. So the whole order
arrives at the same time. No more waiting for coloured
sliding patio doors!

Patio Door System call Roy Frost, Deceuninck Managing
Director now on 07808 365234, follow @DeceuninckUK

ichard Kirman, Sales and Marketing Manager

for the Truedor range from IG Doors tells us
very emphatically Yes and explains why
installer support has become a really essential part
of the marketing mix for Composite Doors.
If you look back at the history of the market, the
start point for every composite door supplier was
to develop a brochure aimed at the retail consumer
to show them the colours and styles of their doors;
the range of glass bevels available to them, and the
choice of handles, knockers, numerals and ancillary
items they could choose from. They also worked on
the basis that the trade installer would use the same
brochure as a sales aid and for many years they did
just that.
But times have changed significantly I have
spoken often about how the internet has impacted
consumer behaviour enabling them to carry out
extensive research into what they want and how
fuelled by the wave of home makeover programmes
and magazines, their knowledge, their thinking and
indeed their power is entirely different.
It is no longer enough to have just a brochure;
installers cannot go and see consumers armed only
with one piece of literature there needs to be so
much more.
For those who have invested in showrooms and

50 |September 2015 | www.mytrade.tv

who have doors to show visitors to their premises

the support needs to be even greater. They need
a full range of business to consumer point of sale
material which gives them the chance to answer
every question a consumer may have, and to give
them something tangible to take away with them for
further consideration.
A composite door is a high end and very aspirational
purchase the point of sale material which
accompanies it needs to match it in every sense.
Installers need to be able to kit out their showrooms
fully with marketing materials to back up their
investment they need to have literature which is
bespoke to them, dual branded promotional material,
and a brochure style which does so much more than
just contain pictures of the products and technical
information.
The composite door industry has excelled in recent
years in bringing out new products new styles, new
colours, new glass options; it now needs to back this
up with the same level of investment and imagination
when it comes to supporting the installers in the
market who ultimately deliver the business.
An installer who is not fully kitted out with a full
range of point of sale materials is at a disadvantage
to one who has everything in his bag.

Theres a real market demand for flood doors

comments David Strang, Group Key Account
Director at Sheerframe Ltd. It is said that UK
properties are more at risk of being flooded than
being burgled and over 5 million properties are
considered at risk according to the insurance
industry. In the last 10 years there has been
growing evidence that global warming has
affected the nature of rainfall in the UK, with
more intense rainstorms resulting in the worst
floods in recorded history. Following the 2007
floods the Pitt report estimated flood damage
cost in the UK as worse than anywhere in the
world that year, with insurance industry costs
of over 3 billion. Since then severe flooding
has occurred in many parts of the UK with
2013 causing substantial damage, especially
in the south of England.

The doors also remained watertight under

dynamic tests simulating waves and rapidly
moving water. French doors are also approved
with just 0.001 litres of ingress after 48
hours, which compares most favourably to
the standard test pass leak rate of up to 1000
ml/m/hour.
Sheerframe flood doors not only hold water out
but, unlike the alternative of flood boards, they
function easily and look like normal doors. In
addition, they are fitted with specialist hardware
to provide near impregnable watertightness
and achieve PAS 24 levels of security. When

NOT ALL MANUFACTURED

COMPOSITE DOORS ARE THE SAME!

lthough there are primarily only three

composite door slab suppliers in the UK
market, Mark Richmond, Sales & Marketing
Director of Selecta Systems, recollects a recent
experience where he firmly believes that not all
manufactured composite doors and suppliers are the
same!
Mark explains, I recently purchased a new build
property in the south west of England which had been
built by a large multi-national housing development
company. A nice modern, detached property with the
usual expected refinements of which I was generally
pleased with, until just a few months ago when I had
issues with the front entrance door.
Mark recalls, Id started to have trouble locking the

58 |September 2015 | www.mytrade.tv

door at times but I was more concerned with other

areas of the doors inadequacies than the sticking
lock! The door was starting to look tired and aged,
after only 12 months with the screw cover caps
on the glazing cassette were unsightly, raised and
exposed. There was not edging strip on the lock
side or a hinge strip on the other edge and the slab
looked untidy round the edges. The hinges were
non-adjustable, so any expansion and contraction
could result in locking difficulties. The drip bar was
cheap looking and the screw heads exposed, whilst
also being crudely cut and fitted. The letter plate and
handle were cheap and cheerful and had already
started to show age with the letter plate showing
signs of failure of its mechanism. But most of all, the
compression when the door lock was fully engaged
GLAZING

is shocking to see!
I was able to fit my iPhone 4, which is 9 to 10mm
thick, between the slab and the frame all around the
door, all four corners and even just 8 inches above
the handle. As a composite door manufacturer and
supplier ourselves, we wouldnt dare provide such
a de-engineered door although there is obviously a
market there! This door was no cheap door either
and Im not running the competition down but this
caused a huge debate within the office but the final
outcome was that Selecta do indeed manufacture
and supply a quality, affordable composite door!
Mark continues, I think first and foremost the quality
of the composite doors we supply are excellent! We
use a quality Nan Ya slab encased in a beautiful 70mm
Selecta purposely extruded frame. The composite
doors are safeguarded with a choice of the ERA Vectis
cylinder free lock or the ERA Trimlock, which are
Secured by Design. Our hinges are fully adjustable
and the Fab and Fix hardware oozes quality and
gives the composite doors that final finishing touch.
So you can see that these doors have not been deengineered to suit a particular market. We make sure
that every composite door that leaves our factory
looks the part, even down to the packaging, where I
very much doubt youll find another composite door
so well packaged!

approval for Selecta Composite Doors is the next

part of our plan. This will assist customers wanting
to break in to this area and also improve the brands
credibility. This is an area we are fully committed to
improving relations and supply and one we are fully
prepared for.
Since the turn of the year Selecta Specialist
Doors have undergone a series of expansions and
investments from moving to a purpose built factory,
installing additional machinery and purchasing
extra vehicles. Selecta are confident that customers
will not be dissatisfied with these innovative and
forthcoming developments of Selecta Specialist

aspects of the Specialist Doors Department. A
recent recruitment drive has seen Selecta employ
a new Business Manager for the South West, a new
Production Manager within the factory unit and
more recently the employment of Simon Packwood

Paul Vajda. Hes one of Apeers R&D engineers who not

it suits the traditional dormer bungalow style perfectly.
The modern composite door with its feature stainless

others in the area
The door is quite unique, said Paul, It is completely
flush with a very contemporary feel that I really like. It
also has a large glazed area so lets a lot of light into
the hallway.
Apeer Marketing Manager Linda Tomb added: Pauls
choice makes the point perfectly that the clean lines of
a contemporary door can look just as much at home in
any surrounding whatever the style and vintage of the
building. Pauls home is a perfect example but there
are many others, as many of our trade customers can
testify.

composite door range and so offers the same assurance
of weather resistance, energy efficiency and security.
Apeer70 comes in two collections, Traditional and

variant featuring the distinctive stainless steel glazing
trim as an alternative to the more usual GRP trim.

A PREMIDOOR 88 DEBUT IN LEAMINGTON SPA

revered lift and slide PremiDoor 88 has been
installed at CWG Choices customer, Crown
Tree Investments at their Royale Regents high end
showroom in Leamington Spa.
Set in an environment of premium home improvement
products, the 4.3m wide x 2.1m high PremiDoor 88
takes centre stage, with an anthracite grey grained
foil on white finish. For homeowners looking at bifolding doors in their next project, the PremiDoor 88
is a genuine alternative and one that is capable of
spanning 6.5m with a height of 2.9m in just two sashes,
yet offers far more light transmission.
The PremiDoor 88 offers sound insulation values as
high as 45db and has been tested by ift Rosenheim
for its tightness against driving rain achieving a rating
of 750 Pa. Kmmerling now believes that this is the
best performing door of its kind in the UK market and
there is also a new Lux variant which does without
the need for a fixed sash. Instead, it features a fixed
mullion and large fixed glazing, fitted with aluminium
glazing beads attached to the outside. The results are

frame and true to its name, a greater passage of light.

Kevin Warner, head of sales and marketing for
Kmmerling commented: The PremiDoor 88 sets the
standard for doors in wide span applications and I
fully expect this product to take market share from bifolding doors. Theres a wealth of colours and finishes
to choose from, incredible technical performance and a
greater passage of light.
Jason Wilder, co-director of CWG Choices concluded:
Were now actively promoting the PremiDoor 88 to
our customers as we believe the design of the product
and 8 colour options from stock will attract further
customers for an alternative to a bi-folding door. While
Crown Tree are the first to display the product off, there
is already considerable interest from both installation

STRONG PERFORMANCE & MORE

IMPROVEMENTS AT HURST

atest results at Hurst Plastics have shown

healthy growth at the company, which has
built on the strong performance of the
business last year.
Early this year, the Kingston-upon-Hull based firm
embarked an ambitious programme of investment
into new machinery and factory space to increase
capacity and efficiency. And now Hurst has further
strengthened its position in the market through
additional investment in staff training, new
appointments, product developments and even
more sales support materials.
Mark Atkinson, Sales Director at Hurst Plastics,
explains: Its a positive time at Hurst and were
really pleased to show steady, considered
growth, which is well on target for the rest
of the year. Composite doors have turned in a
strong performance and are a rapidly growing
part of the business. With a growing presence in
composite doors, it was important for Hurst to
make additional investment to help us provide an
enhanced package for customers.
Hurst has implemented a company-wide training
programme for composite doors. More than 50
members of staff are taking part in the tailored
training sessions which will broaden the scope
and depth of knowledge in composite doors across
the business. The company is also developing and
expanding its field sales team coverage, particularly
in the south where demand for composite doors is
growing at pace.

It gives us a vast intelligence on the market and

allows us to better serve customers. Expanding
further into the south is key for the business and
will extend our external reach by at least 20%
added Mark.
The company is continually improving its
composite door range with new designs, glass and
hardware. The latest advance at Hurst is a new
sculptured frame, which is fabricated and held in
stock at Hurst, to bring greater choice in composite
door style.
In addition to Hursts recently refreshed composite
door brochure, the company has also developed an
extended suite of materials which includes point
of sale posters and leaflets, new personalised
composite door price lists, instruction manuals,
new door swatches and technical specifications.
The Hurst composite fire door is also now
supported by Hursts Door Builder software on its
Hurst Live on-line portal. The software enables
specifiers to build a vast number of composite fire
door configurations with ease.
For further details on the support materials or
to request copies, please contact the Marketing
department on 01482 790790 or visit:

We are a customer-focused business and, for us, its

vital that we build and develop relationships with
our customers. We have a solid IT infrastructure
in place, which is complemented by a high
concentration of office and field-based sales staff.

FIFTH DEALERSHIP EDGETECH GOLF

DAY RAISES 8K FOR CHARITY

he British weather was once again kind for Edgetech

UK, a Quanex companys fifth annual Dealership
golf day at De Vere Staverton Park Golf Club.

Golfers prepared themselves for a day of friendly

competition on the course by tucking into bacon
sandwiches and coffee at the clubhouse. The 19 teams
then tackled the championship standard 18 hole golf
course set in the Northamptonshire countryside.
Speaking at the event, Adrian Barraclough, Renaissance
Window Systems said: The Edgetech golf day has
become a feature of the calendar. Its been great every
year. All heads of the industry talking and doing business
in a relaxed atmosphere and just enjoying it. Thats what
makes the day so fantastic.
At the evening meal, trophies were presented to the
winning teams and individuals. Gareth Edwards from
Synseal, Joe Hague from Promac, Jeremy Kemp from
Padiham Glass and Andy Jones were presented the trophy
for winning team.
Richard Oakes from Oakland Glass took home the
individual first place trophy. Mark Stacey from Vision
took second place and third place went to James KeelingHeane from Senior Architectural Systems. Alan Moreland

Every year Edgetech chooses a charity close to the
industry to support at the golf day. This year it approached
Nick Gibbons, Operations Director at Customade UK Ltd
to ask if it could support The Spring Centre which Nicks
daughter accesses. The charity helps children with
special needs throughout Gloucester.
29 companies donated prizes to the charity raffle and
auction. Prizes included Euro 2016 tickets, a 50 inch Sony
TV and Champagne tea at the Ritz. One of the biggest
lots of the night was a Van Vault filled with tools worth
1,000 donated by Ace Fixings. Tina Moorhouse from
Oakland Glass bid highest for this impressive prize.
We had a record turnout of people joining us both in
the day and evening, says Andy Jones, Managing Director

Truemans five conquer Yorkshire

Three Peak Challenge for Macmillan

ive determined members of the team at

Truemans Windows recently took on the 24,5
mile-long hike on three of Yorkshires highest
peaks in a bid to raise money for Macmillan Cancer
Support. The five - Joe, Ash, Karen, Dave and Adele, set
off on their expedition and, after battling through the
physical and mental exhaustion that the mountains
demand, have successfully completed the challenge
and raised an impressive 2,140 for the charity, more
than doubling their proposed target.
MD, Joe Trueman, commented: At Truemans, we
recognise the importance of engaging with our CSR
and giving back to those who need it most. We chose
Macmillian Cancer Support as our charity for 2015
due to the amazing work they have done for so many
individuals and families that have been affected
by cancer. Having the opportunity to complete the
Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge in aid of this charity
was a great experience and we are very pleased to
have smashed our target of 1000, raising a total of
2140.
66 |September 2015 | www.mytrade.tv

The Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge takes on the

mountains of Pen-y-ghent (691 metres), Whernside
(728 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres) and
aims to be completed within 12 hours. The Trueman
hikers started strong, however, close to the second
check point, group general manager, Ash Warburton,
suffered a serious knee injury and decided to finish
his journey, allowing the others to carry on.
After twelve and a half hours the first members of
the group crossed the finish line, closely followed by
the rest of the team. Having had the chance to reflect
on their achievement, the five agreed that, although
it was one of the hardest challenges they have ever
undertaken, facing cancer alone is immeasurably
tougher. The money raised for MacMillian Cancer
Support means more families wont have to face
cancer alone.

excellent support services continues to be a

Andy Hayes, Sales Manager at Ambience believes
that benefits of the portfolio including 82% Solar

Despite fluctuations in the conservatory industry

Now that Celsius Solid Roof has secured full LABC

we offer two ways of achieving compliance
via LABC as the public sector route or via ASW

Guidance notes and full details on how to achieve
technical compliance are provided to reassure
both installers and consumers.

is eradicated. The brochure fully explains this
fundamental technical advantage along with
sections outlining end-user benefits, speed of

NEW WEBSITE

MORE FOR
PHOENIX
DOORS
CUSTOMERS

hoenix Doors, the complete door solution

company, has launched its new website and
customer on-line ordering portal - all designed
to make life easier for trade customers, specifiers and
homeowners alike.
With a clear, fresh and modern appearance, the combined
website and customer online ordering system is simple
to navigate and encourages users to explore the full
range of uPVC and GRP Composite doors from Phoenix
Doors, part of MASCO UK Window Group.
The new website www.phoenixdoorpanels.co.uk coincides with the launch of the jewel in the crown
of Phoenixs composite door portfolio, the 70mm
double-rebated Meridian Door range, which is featured
prominently on the site. At the click of a button,
enquirers can also request a brochure on this popular
range that delivers outstanding weather, energy and
acoustic performance.
The website also features latest additions to the rest
of the composite door range - the traditional County
Collection and contemporary Continental Collection
along with new glazing and style options for its
extensive and ever-popular range of uPVC door panels.
Our investment in online ordering demonstrates
our commitment to ensuring that customers are not
only equipped with an industry-leading range of
products and marketing material, explained Haydon
Statham, Phoenix Doors Sales Director but also the
necessary support to enhance their business and sales

opportunities.
The new portal has been designed to ensure that
the entire ordering experience is quick and easy, from
bespoke design to quoting and ordering. It also allows
customers to refresh their orders and transfer them
from quotations to live orders simply at the touch of
a button!
Within the websites increased content, there is also
a facility for installers to download the Phoenix Door
Designer App. This useful tool enables consumers to
visualise what their new composite or uPVC panel door
will look like when fitted in their homes.
Commenting further on their new site, Haydon added:
Were very proud of the extensive range we can offer,
which also extends to Stable Doors, a Door and a Half
and Twin Doors. I cannot think of another composite
door company in the UK market that has a range as
broad as the Phoenix one.
If you want to buy a composite door with a genuine

Director Greg Johnson comments: Following our launch of the new Innolux range,
we are excited to reveal our new website. Having a fully responsive website that can
be used on mobile and tablets will greatly benefit our customers and give us a great
platform to showcase our new luxury products. The added feature of the bi-fold
door builder will allow us to support our customers and streamline the ordering
process. The team at Purplex have done a great job and the feedback weve had so
far has been very positive.
Innolux casement windows are based on Modus from Eurocell, the UKs first 75mm
six/seven-chamber profile system. There are three sash options - standard, slimrebate and flush and the window can achieve a U-Value of just 0.7 with a triple
glazed IGU. The Innolux vertical slider is based on the premium quality Eurocell VS
system and is available with a run-through sash horn, making it ideal for period
properties. Innolux bi-folds are based on the Eurocell Aspect system and possess all
the benefits associated with an aluminium equivalent; such as slim sightlines for
cutting-edge aesthetics and inherent strength for optimum performance.

Why the web is your new online showroom

VER the last few years, showrooms within the

window and door industry have steadily been
on the rise.

While a quality showroom is a useful selling tool,

industry expert The Consultancy warns that this must
be backed by a strong online presence. The digital
specialist, has worked within the industry for over
ten years and is currently running its #InvestOnline
campaign, encouraging companies to reap the benefits
of the digital age and begin generating leads online.
Richie Thornton, Director of The Consultancy, said: You
should consider your website as a cloud-based version
of your showroom. If your customers cant physically
visit you, this is the first place they will go. Just the same
as a material showroom, you also have to figure out how
to get people through the door. Factors such as Search
Engine Optimisation (SEO), social media, advertising
and news articles all work to get potential customers
clicking through to your website. Unlike your physical
showroom however, The Consultancy warns that there
are many different ways to access your online product
collection.
Richie added: Online you have to prepare for all types
84 |September 2015 | www.mytrade.tv

of customer and their browsing habits. They may access

your site through mobile, tablet or desktop and you
have to ensure your website is responsive to all. Around
31 per cent of the population now access websites
through their mobile phones. If you dont cater for
them, thats almost like closing your showroom to a
third of your customers. The Consultancy launched its
#InvestOnline campaign after figures revealed that out
of an estimated 12,500 window and door specialists in
the UK, only 23 per cent are generating leads online.
Richie added: Its crucial for any business wanting to
grow to make sure they also grow online. Theres no
point expanding if youre website looks like its from
the dark ages.
A website should never be static and should be a
constantly evolving marketing tool for your business.
We offer a lot of different bespoke packages through

SPECTUS SYSTEMS LAUNCHES

NEW 'RESPONSIVE' WEBSITE

S
pectus Systems is inviting everyone to take a look
at its brand new website after it has undergone
a complete redesign with three core priorities:
functionality, aesthetics and ease-of-use across a range
of devices.
The aim from the outset was to provide a better
experience for professional, trade and homeowner
visitors whilst encouraging greater engagement and
delivering a mix of product information, industry news
and useful features.
Easy navigation is vital with users now demanding
a great experience when accessing any website and
dismissive of any that do not perform. Basics such
as drop-down menus on the new Spectus site are
therefore well researched and designed to be clear,
simple and tailored to different users needs. The site
also includes a search facility with results listed in a
scroll-through format. The overall appearance is clean,
fresh and uncluttered.
Developed for the connected world in which mobile
Internet users now outnumber those accessing via static

devices, the site is fully responsive and works with all

iOS and Android operating systems. Users can therefore
access the information they need on tablets or using
smartphones whilst on the go, without compromising
their experience. Fabricators and installers especially
will benefit from the comprehensive information and
excellent imagery included in the sites Technical Hub
and architects and specifiers will find a wealth of useful
features, including NBS access and BIM objects.

The Media Centre provides industry news, opinion

pieces, Spectus case studies and video content with
regular updates addressing topical and emerging
issues. Links to social media sites are included for a
broader visitor experience and to promote engagement,
all within a single source.
Commenting on the new site, Carmen Velilla, Spectus
Brand Manager said: We are delighted with the new
website. Its achieved our aim of providing a simple,
relevant and practical source of information and
interaction. It looks great, too, and we believe visitors
will love the change.

CMS WINDOW SYSTEMS TAKES BIM-READY

SOLUTIONS TO B&EE EXPO

he substantial efficiencies and

added value that developers
and architects will gain by
working with a BIM-ready window,
door and faade contractor, will be
revealed by CMS Window Systems
at this years Buildings & Energy
Efficiency Expo.

The CMS team is utilising its

presence at the B&EE Expo to give
architects, developers and main
contractors the opportunity to
learn why it is so important that
the building envelope contractor
is BIM-ready, as well as product
manufacturers.

Already established as one of the

UKs leading window, door and
curtain walling fabricators and
installers, CMS Window Systems
recently expanded its portfolio
of building envelope solutions
with the addition of external wall
insulation (EWI) and cladding
systems installation.

In addition to BIM, CMS will also be

highlighting how its range of PVCu,
aluminium and timber aluminium
composite windows and doors
provides highly effective solutions
for delivering residential properties
which are extremely energy
efficient, and future-proofed from
the harmful effects of fuel poverty.
Stephen Anderson, Director of the
Aluminium Division at CMS said:
With BIM adoption levels still well
below expectations at this point
in the BIM timetable, the B&EE
Expo is the ideal platform to help
us highlight how BIM skills and
technology are in place right along
the supply chain providing you
know where to look.

Earlier this year, CMS became one

of the first companies of its kind to
invest in the technology, personnel
and skills required to be BIMready. In doing so, it is ensuring
that building projects benefit
from consistent BIM expertise
throughout the numerous work
stages reducing the risk of costly
errors or contractor delays.
96 |September 2015 | www.mytrade.tv

By being BIM-ready, we are

providing the vital link between
designer and product manufacturer
by talking the same language
and, more importantly, using our
experience in numerous other
building envelope projects to
advise on where further design
and process efficiencies can be
achieved.
CMS operates from a 15-acre modern
manufacturing and recycling facility
near Glasgow, with additional
facilities in Fife, producing more
than 100,000 window units and
thousands of square metres of
curtain walling every year. The firm
provides a 360-degree building
envelope solution from design
through manufacture, installation
and aftercare, an approach that has
seen it work on some of the largest
housing investment programmes
and commercial building projects
throughout the UK since its
formation in 2006.

LUMI LOOKS TO TRADE WITH

SECOND GRAND DESIGNS EVENT

peer, maker of the radical seamless Lumi window

and door system, is aiming to build on its
fabricator base as well as appeal to consumers
at Grand Designs Live in Birmingham, on 8th-11th
October.
Lumi proved to be a show-stopper when it was
unveiled at the London Grand Designs Live in May.
Now Marketing Manager Linda Tomb says the company
is inviting more fabricators to see the system for
themselves and become a part of its success.
The response from consumers was overwhelming,
she said, Everyone wanted to know more about it and
where they could get it. That showed us very clearly the
kind of demand we can expect and now we are looking
to grow our fabricator base to match that demand.
This is of course predominantly a consumer show and
we expect every bit as much interest from homeowners
as the London event but there is also a strong trade

98 |September 2015 | www.mytrade.tv

element among visitors and, until the FIT Show next

year, we believe this will be the best opportunity to
introduce Lumi to them.
Lumi, with its structurally bonded construction and
radically seamless appearance, was launched as a
complete window and door system including bi-folds
and all will be on show at Birmingham.
Linda Tomb said: The complete Lumi system means
anyone can have any combination of windows, doors
and bi-folds that are an exact match, not just a close
approximation as in many other cases.
This is just one more reason why fabricators should
come along to the Grand Designs Live, take a very close
look at Lumi and think seriously about becoming a part
of its success.

Double
G Award
finalist
for
Edgetech
www.edgetechig.co.uk

dgetech UK, a Quanex company, has been named

as a double G Award finalist for both the Customer
Care Initiative of the Year and Component Supplier
of the Year.
It has been an exciting year for Edgetech. Five new
products were added to the range, its first IGU
components centre opened in Burnley and Dealership
Plus, the most comprehensive customer support
package that covers IGU manufacturers, window and
door fabricators and installers was introduced.
To be finalists in two categories is brilliant, says Andy
Jones, Managing Director. We are especially pleased
to be nominated for Customer Care Initiative for
Dealership Plus. We could see many customers getting
more and more bogged down with red tape, so we
launched the scheme to make it easier and quicker
for companies to comply with current legislation, and
keep them updated with any changes. Theres also the
Thermal Ratings Register for cost effective and easy
window energy ratings, insurance backed guarantees
and TrustMark. All thats in addition to the marketing
and sales support that customers have come to rely on
us for.

100|September 2015 | www.mytrade.tv

The nomination for Component Supplier of the Year

recognises Edgetechs growth from supplier of a
single product to a major supplier of all fundamental
components required for IG manufacture in the last 12
months. Since launching the double award winning
Super Spacer Alpha the worlds best performing
spacer bar, TruShield glass protection system,
TruPlas SDL and TruSieve desiccant last October,
Edgetech has also added a range of ancillaries for IGU
manufacturers which includes Georgian bar, lead, cloth
tape and aluminium spacer bar.
In the same year, Edgetech brought the revolutionary
TruFit perimeter edge expanding foam installation
tape, which is already taking the market by storm. The
new tape makes a neat and weather tight seal around
windows and doors and gives consistently better
thermal efficiency.
Andy adds: We are looking forward to seeing the finalists
from all the categories at the award presentation on
Friday 27 November at the London Hilton hotel on Park
Lane.

GLASSOLUTIONS SHORTLISTED IN G15 AWARDS

he technical capability and glass design

expertise of Glassolutions has been recognised
in the G15 awards, where it has been shortlisted
in the Commercial Project of the Year category for its
work at Tower Bridge.
Glassolutions designed and installed two glass floor
walkways at the historic London landmark and tourist
attraction, which has since seen visitor numbers
increase by 34%. The specification of the glass included
considering its durability and strength, privacy from
viewers on the ground, wind loading, and the potential
impact should a passing vessel strike the walkways as
well as access issues.
Tower Bridge is owned by the Bridge House Estate and
managed by the City of London. It was completed in
1892 and opened in 1894 by the Prince of Wales (later
King Edward VII). Tower Bridge Exhibition tells the
history of the bridge through animations and displays,
across its towers, high-level panoramic walkways and
the atmospheric Victorian Engine Rooms. However the
only place that you couldnt view the bridge mechanism
was from the walkways themselves.

110|September 2015 | www.mytrade.tv

Tower Bridge turned to Glassolutions to design,

manufacture and install glass floors into the two high
level walkways to create unique views and enhance the
appeal of the historic, Grade I listed visitor attraction.
Durability and strength of the glass was key, so the
existing floors were removed and a steel frame was
installed into which the new 82mm thick glass floor
panels, comprising seven layers of glass capable of
withstanding the weight of six elephants, were inserted.
Mike Butterick, marketing director at Glassolutions said:
The project presented many technical challenges but
our team rose to the challenge and their experience,
knowledge and expertise ensured we delivered on
every level. Tower Bridge were delighted with our work
and were proud that the project has been shortlisted
in the G15 awards.
Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on
27th November at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

will be showcasing their new Sinidex Parallel Stay and

We had a successful show in 2013 and we were keen

and Marketing at Cotswold. Our customers will be
there, so its important we are too. The FIT Show is the
perfect place to show the masses the quality of our
products and our new range. As our business continues
to grow, so does our presence at The FIT Show - weve
opted for an even bigger stand this time round!

International manufacturer Cotswold was acquired
by Caldwell UK in 2014. Together, these businesses
are two of most respected names in the UK window

built their respective product range and customer

customers are amongst the first to benefit from
the companys 600,000 investment in a new
FORS registered Crossrail standard vehicle fleet which
makes site deliveries safer and more efficient.
Five new liveried trucks have been commissioned
by GLASSOLUTIONS Peterborough which gives even
greater flexibility to accommodate the wide variety
of site access situations. And with vehicles featuring
mounted forklifts, these new trucks eliminate the need
for customers to hire a forklift on site. Ranging from
the small 7.5 tonne truck to 26 tonnes in size, the openbacked vehicles facilitate easy deliveries on site, plus
drop sides to enable forklift access.
These new vehicles are operated by GLASSOLUTIONS
personnel exclusively out of the Peterborough
factory, which is centrally located for deliveries
anywhere in the country. Fitted to the Crossrail safety
standard, they comply with the FORS (Fleet Operator
Recognition Scheme) Bronze standard and are integral
to the companys move towards the enhanced Silver
accreditation.
This scheme is vital to make fleet operations safer,
more fuel efficient, more economical and cutting

vehicle emissions in the process. In practice this means

all the vehicles operating out of the GLASSOLUTIONS
Peterborough factory are fitted with audible warning
systems to warn cyclists and pedestrians of manoeuvres,
as well as cameras to allow drivers to spot risks before
incidents could occur.
Ian Croft, operations manager at GLASSOLUTIONS
Peterborough says: In commissioning these new
vehicles we listened carefully to customer feedback to
see how we could make changes to the specification
and design to suit the multitude of site arrangements
that we experience daily. But we also wanted to ensure
we keep improving efficiency and safety along the
way hence why weve invested in amongst the best
vehicles available in our sector.
Commercial glazing customers of GLASSOLUTIONS
Peterborough are based right across the UK and every
project requires loads in different sizes and quantities
of glass. That is why flexibility in the vehicle fleet is so
important to cope with between 15 and 50 drops every
day, including Saturdays where required.

UK GLAZING
INDUSTRY
STARS TO
CRACK
AMERICA

uch like the Beatles achieved in the 60s, Duran

Duran in the 80s and more recently the likes of
Radiohead and Coldplay, some of the UK glazing
industrys best known artists are set to crack America.
Alongside the expected global organisations, leading
the British charge at this years GlassBuild America in
Atlanta, are UK based independents including RegaLead,
Thermoseal Group and The Georgian Bar Company.
Guy Hubble, Joint Managing Director at RegaLead
comments: GlassBuild America is always an important
event in our calendar. As well as showing the
international market what RegaLead has to offer, it is
significant that we showcase the UK glazing industry as
a whole. Visitors to Booth 522 can see for themselves
our ColorSpray epoxy acrylic based paint system, which
is ideal for the back painting of glass for a multitude
of applications. This flexible spray paint method is
equally suited to coating large areas or more intricate
jobs, whilst its ColorSpray GRP counterpart is designed
specifically for use on GRP, ABS and PVC surfaces to
allow coating of composite door slabs, cassettes and
outer frames. We will be glad to welcome anyone who
would like to find out more.
Mark Hickox, Sales Director at Thermoseal Group
adds: We are looking forward to showcasing our
Thermobar and Thermoflex highest performance warm
edge spacers at GlassBuild America. This exhibition

is part of Thermoseal Groups strategy to export

our industry-leading, superior thermal performance
spacers to the worldwide marketplace. Our ultimate
goal has always been to grow from being a leading UK
manufacturer and supplier into a large international
player. Therefore, we are now concentrating our efforts
on increasing production and gaining a share of the
export market. We have recently received our largest
export order to date from a manufacturer in the Far
East. We also supply to other customers in United
States, New Zealand, Pakistan, Korea, Taiwan, Argentina,
Chile, Finland, Netherlands, Estonia, Poland, Italy,
France, Hungary and Romania. Please come and see us
on stand 423 at the show.
Phil Dewhurst, Commercial Director at The Georgian
Bar Company concludes: Its great to participate in
international trade shows, and our American cousins
have many similarities not just in the language, but
the market and how we deal. We exhibited at GlassBuild
America last year, with the intention of finding a US
distributor. Its a mark of the shows success for us
that we this year return alongside said distributor,
US Profiles. Thanks to this partnership, our patented
Geofast clip on astragal decorative bar system is now
available to the US market, under the WinTek brand, and
visitors can see it for themselves on booth 226, where
we will be available to provide technical advice.

'Brand Honesty' will be the new

currency in all industry sectors

fter what feels like decades where spin was the

order of the sales and marketing day suddenly
a new horizon has come into view and on it is
Brand Honesty.

This brand honesty brings brand credibility which

in turn brings more sales, more profitability, and
a sustainable business model. Businesses cannot
continue to try to deceive their customers.

What do we mean by Brand Honesty? Its a simple as it

sounds; companies are starting to tell the truth about
their businesses warts and all.

The future very much belongs to those businesses

which are prepared to show openness and which are
prepared to trust their customers with the truth..this
future is starting to come into view.

Many of us will recall a couple of years ago well known

supermarket chains having a problem with horse meat
in their frozen meals, and how for weeks there was
denial, accusation, and spin resulting in a widespread
and wholly understandable loss of consumer confidence
in their products before they finally admitted the
truth.
Many of us will also recall the tragedy of young
children dying on holiday and how the holiday
company in question tried to distance themselves from
the failure of their property agents; no real openness
about what had happened and what they were going
to do to prevent it happening in the future brand
and reputational damage and consumer confidence
negatively impacted as a consequence.

And of course, just breaking right now are the issues

with VW (and potentially others) about allegedly
rigging the figures to show low emission rates on their
vehicles. For me, the issue is actually not so important,
it is about admitting what they have done which is the
key point and being open, honest, and truthful.and
being so right now.
We do not live in a world where everything is perfect,
people understand that. But for years businesses have
wanted to spin their way out of trouble it has almost
become an art form.
For us as a business which specialises in encouraging
customers to actively seek the opinions of their
customers we often come across negative publicity,
and we always recommend the same thing publish it,
respond to it and be honest. The results are outstanding;
people respect the integrity and the sincerity and give
more credit to the company than if everything was
somehow perfect this is true brand honesty.

ussex-based IGU manufacturer MTM Units

recently decided to upgrade its gas filling

for its specialist double glazed sealed units. In line
with its ethos of high quality and standards, the

Garrie Crowhurst, Director at MTM Units comments:
We decided to upgrade our gas filling machine
due to the volume of work we have been doing in
this area, so we wanted something which would
be simple to use and in keeping with our state
of the art facility. The Smartfill-2 is much easier
to operate than the machine we used previously,
and the data logging option has been particularly
beneficial for us to help ensure traceability of all
units we manufacture. We chose to partner with
Inagas because they are the experts in gas filling
solutions. It is at the heart of what they do, rather
than an ancillary service and we are delighted both
with the machine itself and the levels of support
we have received.

The Smartfill-2 is an Argon gas filling machine

Liniar bids au revoir to Chris

any will know industry figure Chris Globe,

originally employed at Liniar to head up the
Commercial Sales function in 2010. With
his marketing background, when Liniar needed extra
support in that area, he was ideally placed to step in
and help launching his own business, Inside The Box
Marketing at the same time.
Throughout his time with Liniar, Chris has always been
a strong ambassador for the systems house, writing
countless articles and press releases and projectmanaging Liniars presence at the Ecobuild exhibition
and the inaugural FIT Show in 2013.
As Liniar has continued to grow, so has the client base
at Inside The Box.
Servicing a wide range of clients across and beyond the
industry, Chris now provides PR and marketing support
to companies both large and small. In addition, Chris
launched the Independent Ratings Company last year,
enabling clients to add value through independent
customer feedback.
In the last few years, Liniar has boosted its own internal
marketing function with a team led by Marketing
Director Sue Davenport creating online and offline
collateral to support Liniar customers and managing
communication through a variety of channels, including
the recent launch of a brand new website.

even greater heights. The Commercial Sales function

at Liniar will be managed in-house by Charlotte Curtis,
Business Development Co-ordinator and the current
regional sales team.
Roger Hartshorn comments: Id like to say thank you
to Chris for everything he has helped us to achieve at
Liniar, and to wish him every success with his business
ventures. Im sure there will be many more opportunities
for us to work together again in the future, so its not
goodbye more au revoir for now.
Chris concurs: From my point of view, without the help
and support of Roger and all the team at Liniar we
would have found it difficult to start our business at
the height of the recession. Working with them over
the past few years has been an absolute pleasure it
is rare that you find such enthusiasm across a whole
workplace and their determination to innovate and to
be different is unrelenting.
This is the perfect time for both of us to part company
in terms of trading, but I have no doubt that our
relationship will remain as strong as ever. Everyone at
Liniar has our best wishes and it will be great to see
them become real industry leaders in every sense.

off period. Autograph allows sales reps to specify email

lists, enabling them to send a combination of the job
file, the specification and signed contract, directly from
the application, to the customer and the office staff.

With five new additions to the team, including

software developers and customer service experts, the
company has also seen strong investment in IT and
telecommunications. Mark said: Over the past two
years we have invested huge resources in order to
further develop and improve our two market leading
design, sales and presentation software modules
Vector for conservatories and orangeries, and Focus for
windows and doors.

This is an excellent addition for both Vector and Focus,

which allows window retailers to save considerable
time and secure more sales, faster and more easily. It
also provides a clearer, more straightforward way of
communication between the field team and the office,
with no room for mistakes, said Mark.

Weve updated our programmes constantly to reflect

the changing market trends and the launch of new,
innovative products, such as the solid tiled roof for
conservatories, or the popular roof lanterns. But
weve also developed new features to effectively help
installers large and small across the UK sell their
products easier to the end consumer.
One of these features is Autograph, a digital signature
facility, which allows sales reps to produce a contract
and get it signed in one visit to the homeowner, on
a touch screen device or an external pad, without
affecting the consumers right to the 14 days cooling

Investment at the company continues this year,

as Windowlink looks to engage another software
developer and sales executive, as well as to launch
new features that will further enable window retailers
to capitalise on and maximise all upselling and crossselling opportunities during the sales pitch.
Mark added: From designing the windows, doors
and conservatories in high quality 3D graphics, to
producing the quote and contract and getting it signed,
our applications will manage the entire sales process,
from start to finish, in the most cost-effective and timesaving way.

guitar. Although I loved my 7-string guitar, I found
that its Floyd rose
bridge
was
too much
trouble
when

it came
to keeping in tune
and re-stringing. I wanted to return to a fixed bridge,
6-string guitar. I wanted a no thrills 6-string guitar
with high output pick ups for hard rock tones that work
well with distortion effects. This ESP EC guitar comes
in 2 versions (and many different paint finishes). One
has Seymour Duncan JB pick-ups and the other active
EMG pick-ups. Now I have owned an ESP LTD guitar
with EMG pick ups in the past, but sold it on eBay when
I was still a teenager struck for cash. I loved the EMG
pick-ups because how well they could pick up pinched

harmonics with great sustain. So I knew I was sold on

the EMG pick-ups. It was just a case of finding a guitar
with the right look, feel and size for my needs. I liked
how this ESP EC-1000 was a copy of the Gibson Les
Paul shape, a classic guitar shape that every player is
familiar with. What I like about the shape is that its
relatively small and features a good cut away for easy
access to the higher frets. With a total of 24-frets on
the neck, ease of acces is vital for hitting the high
notes. In terms of finish, Ive always been a fan of
black guitars, as it fits the hard rock, metal

guitar styles that I sometimes play. I got to try

this guitar in Dawsons music in Manchester last
weekend, however I played the Seymour Duncan pick
up version, as I knew what the EMG pick ups sounded
like and I could not find a stockist anywhere close by.
I was really pleased with how the Seymour Duncans
sounded. Very chunky tone, with nice sustain. Pinched
harmonics rang out nicely and were quite easy to pull
off not as easy as the EMG pick-ups though. I liked
the feel of the 24.75 scale neck with jumbo frets as
I have big hands. The rosewood fingerboard was very
comfortable and fast to play. I have never owned a
mahogany body guitar, but this one is mahogany on

both the neck and body. A disadvantage of this is that
its quite a heavy wood, but thats not a problem for me.
Mahogany wood is known for its warm, well-balanced
tone. My Ibanez was basswood a cheaper wood, so I
was looking forward to hearing the difference. I was
very impressed with the guitar over all. What I really
love is the feel of how fast the neck is for playing solos.
The guitar is definitely marketed to a metal audience,
with professional musicians such as Metallicas Kirk
Hammett playing ESP guitars. However it is a very good
all round guitar. I wanted something that will be fast
and aggressive when I want it to be, but when I turn
the gain down it can still produce bluesy tones. All I
need to do is turn down the volume knob and switch to
the EMG 60 neck pick up to get a great bluesy, or over
driven rock tone. I cant wait to purchase this guitar. It
retails in shops for 709 or online for 630.
If I had more of a budget to spend, I would consider
trying the ESP EC-1000 Evertune version, which features
ESPs new Evertune fixed bridge. This is a new piece

while remaining in pristine pitch at all times.

With an EverTune-equipped LTD EC-1000 EVERTUNE,
you can be confident that throughout a grueling gig or
a long recording session, your guitar will remain in tune
regardless of the temperature and other conditions. Huge
string bends? No worries; the strings are under constant
tension so that no matter what happens, you can always
focus on playing, and not worrying about tuning.
I have included a picture of the Evertune bridge in the
bottom right of this spread. I would be very interested
to try this bridge, and give it some hard abuse to see
how it holds up, but with a price tag of over 900 I
doubt I can afford this new technology just yet. If you

of guitar bridge technology, which promises to stay in

tune even with hard abuse to the guitar whilst on stage.
Keeping in tune is vital, and one of the main reasons I
wanted a new guitar as my old Ibanez did not stay in
tune well. Heres what ESP have to say about their new
Evertune bridge.
With certain key exceptions, electric guitar technology
has not changed drastically in the last 50-plus years.
However, the EverTune Bridge represents a whole new way
of approaching the art and science of keeping guitars in
tune, at all times, under all conditions.
EverTune is an all-mechanical system, with springs in the
guitars body that provide constant tension to the strings.
The result: you not only maintain excellent tuning from day
to day, but your guitars intonation is amazingly accurate
at all points up and down the neck. You dont have to
change your playing style or any degree of expression
