and Support Services

SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Honeywell's Fail Safe Controller (FSC)

is the world's leading process safeguarding
system that is used in high-integrity safetycritical applications all around the globe.
As part of Honeywell's TotalPlant Solution
(TPS) or in stand-alone configurations,
FSC-based safeguarding solutions form the
basis for functional safety, thus providing
protection of people, plant equipment and
the environment combined with optimum
availability of plant operation. All FSC
systems are designed, manufactured, and

installed under the most stringent quality

standards which have been certified as per
ISO 9001.
Every FSC safety solution is tailored to
meet the requirements of each individual
application. This comprises much more
than just supplying hardware and software.
To guarantee optimum system operation
and performance throughout the system
lifecycle, a comprehensive services portfolio
is available that helps users optimize their

safety strategy. Users can choose between

various support options, which enable them
to customize their service requirements.

Benefits
FSC service contracts are more than just
emergency backups they add value to the
safety solution, and enhance the performance
and reliability of the safeguarded process:
Guaranteed fast response to service
requests
Reduced hourly rates for on-site servicing
Expert assistance during all stages of the
system lifecycle
Support from locations around the world
Continuous availability of the latest
software
Compliance with IEC 61508

Site Support Services

Figure 1: FSC services portfolio

Honeywell provides a number of services

that help ensure smooth system operation
on-site:
Startup and commissioning activities:
AHoneywell trained support specialist
can be made available on-site to assist
with the startup and commissioning of
a process plant. The support activities
include system power-up, loop checking,
and field modifications.
Preventive maintenance:
During preventive maintenance the FSC
system is inspected for potential problems.
These checks are performed on a regular
time base in order to ensure maximum
system up-time. Honeywell maintenance
engineers will carry out a variety of system
checks including wiring, mechanical integrity, power distribution, and communication.

Spare Parts Management

Adequate spare parts management is essential
for continued trouble-free operation of the
FSC system. Honeywell can help you control
your FSC spare parts strategy effectively.
Three services are offered which provide
a choice of spare parts availability to suit
your specific needs:
P1
This service provides on-site availability
of spare parts as specified in the site contract. Critical spares are available on-site
24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
Honeywell maintains the spare parts
inventory at a specified minimum
revision level.
P2
This service provides the delivery of
spares identified in the site contract within a guaranteed response time.
Critical spares are supported 24 hours
a day, 365 days per year. Honeywell
delivers spare parts, and maintains the
bonded spare parts inventory at a speci
fied minimum revision level.
Parts replacement service
This service provides replacement of parts
found to be defective as a result of normal
usage, or recommended for replacement
by Honeywell during problem troubleshooting or during preventive maintenance
checks. Honeywell will deliver spare parts
at a specified minimum revision level.

Emergency Technical Assistance

The FSC system has a near-perfect record
when it comes to reliability and trouble-free
operation. However, should any problem
arise, customers can call on the Honeywell
experts to provide various types of assistance:
Around-the-clock helpdesk
A helpdesk is available which enables
customers to contact the HSMS support
department for telephone assistance 24
hours a day, 365 days per year. This

ensures fast and accurate handling of

any problems that may arise in the field.
The HSMS experts can, for example, help
you interpret system diagnostic messages.
Corrective maintenance
Upon request of a customer-authorized
representative, an HSMS service engineer will start traveling to the customer's
location within the time frame specified
in the service contract to solve any problems that have occurred in the field.

Software Updates

Asoftware update contract provides

an easy way to keep the FSC system upto-date with the latest software. Updates
of the FSC system software, user software,
and manuals are offered at one fixed
price. As soon as a new software version
is released, it is automatically supplied
to the customer, together with one FSC
documentation set.

Training
Various training programs are available,
enabling users to become familiar with the
FSC system. The training courses can be
given at Honeywell locations, but they
can also be organized on-site, if required.
In addition to the standard programs
discussed below, there is also the option
of having a training course tailored to the
customer's specific needs. This allows
extra options to be added to the training,
or it can be used to focus on specific
aspects of the FSC system. The following
training courses are available:
Managers Overview
This one-day course gives an overview of
how the FSC system is set up, and the
concepts behind it. Safety requirements
are an important topic of this course. The
various FSC configurations are discussed
and demonstrated, as are the main hard-

ware components. In addition, participants

learn about FSC's on-line features using
the FSC Navigator user sofware.
Implementation
This course provides the training for
engineering personnel in the implementation of FSC projects. It covers the
technical aspects of the system, including
safety and availability considerations.
Programming of the system is also
included, as well as communication
with the Safety Manager Module
(TPS100).
Maintenance
This course provides the training for
maintenance personnel to enable them
to support the FSC system with first-call
maintenance. This course includes
an introduction into the FSC philosophy
as well as the FSC system and its basic
components. After the introduction the
course focuses on fault-finding and
FSC's diagnostic and status indication
features.
On-Line Modification (OLM)
This course is required for those who
want to make changes to a running
system ('on-line'). Training is essential
here, because on-line modification can
have a major impact on the process.
If not done properly, on-line modification
may lead to a total plant shutdown.
Total Package
This course combines the FSC
Implementation course and the FSC
On-Line Modification course. It is
required for those who want to perform
modifications in the field, or who are
responsible for controlling and modifying
running systems.
Customized training courses
Customized training courses specifically
geared to the customer's needs are also
available. These courses will always be set
up in cooperation with the customer, for
example to focus on particular FSC aspects
(e.g. communication, sequence-of-events,
alarming, FSC-FSC communication, etc.).
