An example of three different MAAT levels is shown in Figure 3. This figure shows the monthly temperature variations for the three MAAT
levels used in the development of MS-1, namely 45F, 60F, and 75F which correspond to New York, South Carolina, and Arizona,
respectively. All three locations have significant variation in air temperature over the course of a year. For example, in New York,
MAAT45, the monthly air temperature averages dip below freezing during the months of January through April. During this period, all
layers will experience increased stiffness due to the cold. In April, as the temperature climbs, some thawing is to be expected, which will
likely weaken the subgrade soils. After thaw weakening, temperatures warm up during the spring and summer months and HMA layers
will experience lower stiffness as pavement temperatures climb. In the fall, as the temperatures cool off, HMA stiffness will begin to
increase and the cycle repeats.

PROCEDIMIENTO DE DISEO
El principio se basa en determinar el espesor mnimo de la capa
de asfalto que soporte la deformacin vertical por compresin
de la superficie de la Subrasante y la deformacin horizontal por
tensin en el fondo de la capa de asfalto.
El procedimiento consiste en:
PASO 1: Seleccionar o determinar los datos
PASO 2: Seleccionar los materiales de la superficie y de
la base
PASO 3: Determinar el espesor mnimo requerido para
los datos que se tienen
PASO 4: Evaluar la factibilidad de construccin por etapas
y preparar el plan de construccin escalonada si es necesario.
PASO 5: Efectuar anlisis econmico de diseos alternativos y
seleccionar el ptimo
