Background
The QSV range of Generator Sets uses a combination of engine sensors to
determine engine position. It is important that these engine position sensors
(EPS) are correctly set / timed in order to avoid serious engine damage.
Generator Sets built before 1st. January 2006 utilises a Camshaft Position Sensor
that is mounted outboard of the camshaft housing. The EPS and Camwheel are
mounted on the engine block at the flywheel-end of the B-Bank camshaft housing
as shown below.
The procedure detailed in this Service Bulletin only applies to engines using an
outboard mounted Camshaft Position Sensor.

Camshaft Engine Position Sensor Camwheel Setting Procedure:

WARNING: Incorrect setting of the Camwheel will cause an explosion
within the exhaust manifold resulting in serious engine damage!
1. The engine must be mechanically timed before performing the Camshaft
Position Sensor/Camwheel timing refer to Procedure 66-001-088, Base
Engine Timing in the QSV 81 and 91 Generator Set Troubleshooting and
Repair Manual 4021314.

2. Rotate the engine in the direction of rotation (anti-clockwise) so that

Cylinder B1 is at top dead centre on the firing stroke (NOTE: B1 rocker
levers must be unloaded/have free play).
3. Check the accuracy of the engine position pointer mounted on the B-bank
side of the flywheel housing. Remove the MCM700 engine sensor located
on the A-bank side of the flywheel housing. Look through the M22 hole,
the first hole after the 2 missing holes should be visible and centred. If not,
rotate the engine so that the first hole after the 2 missing holes is centred
within the M22 sensor hole. Check the timing pointer and adjust as
required so that it is aligned with the B1 TDC mark on the flywheel see
Diagram 1 below.

4. Install the Sensor Mounting Ring when installed the Camshaft Engine
Position Sensor should be orientated to the 1 oclock position see

Installed so Sensor is at
the 1 oclock Position.

5. Next, install the Camwheel and adjust the position so that the Timing
Tooth is 90 (15) retarded from the Camshaft Engine Position Sensor
see Diagram 3 below. Tighten the 3 cap screws to 22N.m.
NOTE: There is an engraved mark on the Camwheel that should align
with the centre of the sensor mounting hole when the Camwheel Timing
Tooth is 90 retarded from the sensor see Diagram 4 below.
