Dear Scouters,
We are pleased to invite your Unit to the coming District Cookout Competition held on 9th June
2007. This is a Scouts event held in Yuan Ching Secondary School. It includes a Dumpling
Making Competition and a Backwoodsman Cooking Competition, running concurrently. The
Dumpling Making Competition is meant to be a fun event, held in conjunction with the
traditional Chinese Dumpling Festival, which happens to fall within that period. A training
session will be held before the actual competition. The Backwoodsman Cooking Competition is
purely a skills competition, and successful competitors are eligible for the “Camp Cook”
Proficiency Badge.
Participating teams are to report for registration at 8:00am, followed by the respective
competitions’ briefing. A fee of S$15/- for the Dumpling Making Competition and a fee of S$5/-
for the Backwoodsman Cooking Competition will be charged per team. Each team will comprise
of 3 and 4 members respectively.
Please note that there is a participation ratio condition of 3:1 for this event. Meaning, if your Unit
sends in 3 teams (or less) for Backwoodsman Cooking Competition, it is compulsory to send in at
least 1 team for Dumpling Making Competition. If 4-6 teams are sent for Backwoodsman
Cooking Competition, at least 2 teams must be sent for the Dumpling Making Competition, and
so forth. Conversely, if you send in a team for the Dumpling Making Competition, you will need
to send in at least 1 team for Backwoodsman Cooking Competition.
All cooking is expected to end by 12 noon, followed by final judging and prize presentation at
12:30pm.
Kindly indicate in the attached form below, the number of teams you will be sending and reply
back to me by 24th May 2007. Should you have any queries, please feel free to contact me at
91785435, or my email: christine123_1@hotmail.com. Alternatively, you may contact the
District Scout Leader, Mr. Teo Tat Yong or the District Venture Leader, Mr. Eugene Sim. Our
District Commissioner, Mr. Tan Kian Hwee, has graciously agreed to be the Food Judge for this
event.
