General Steps to Troubleshooting Memory

 Check that you have installed the correct memory modules that are supported by
your motherboard.

 Check that you have installed the correct module size as stated in the
motherboard documentation.

 Remove and reinstall each module. Make sure each module is properly seated in
its slot and each module sits in the slot at the same height as other modules.

 Remove the newly installed memory and move around in different sockets,
checking to see whether the error message disappears.

 Try to install the new memory without the old modules installed. If the new
memory works without the old, it means that the new and old modules are not
compatible.

 Clean the module edge connectors with a soft cloth or contact cleaner. Blow or
vacuum dust from the sockets.

 Try to flash your BIOS – it’s possible that the BIOS have problems with the new
memory that a BIOS upgrade can solve.

 If you regularly receive error messages about illegal operations and general
protection faults during normal operation and you have not upgraded the
memory, try the following:
o Run your antivirus software to check for viruses.

o Download the latest patches for your operating system.

o If you have installed new hardware, uninstall it.

o Test, reseat, or replace the RAM.

o Check the motherboard for visible problems with bad sockets or circuits.
