ARAMCO - POWER SYSTEM ENGINEERING - Power Dispatcher

The candidate is expected to minimize the variable operating cost (fuel-and non-fuel) of Saudi
Aramco generation fleets by efficiently dispatching generating units, coordinating planned
outages to ensure continuous adequacy of power supply and minimize the impact and cost of
interruption to customers, preserving the quality and reliability of the power supply and
minimizing the impact of system emergencies to customers.
Bachelor degree in electrical engineering. Minimum of 7 years of utility dispatching center
related experience required. Minimum of 5 years of experience in analytical/planning role and
economic dispatching principles is required. Advanced degree in marketing, economics, finance
or an MBA is preferred. Strong analytical background in economics, finance, and accounting is
preferred. Strong computer software and database skills.
1. Capable of developing economic dispatching model and generation unit commitment. 2. Sets
daily loads and demand forecast to be managed by the Central Power Operations Unit. 3.
Experience in electricity trading and/or generation optimization in de-regulated market
environment working with local ISO. 4. Experience using Energy Management Systems and
RTO/ISO unit commitment and market computer systems. 5. Strong electrical background in AC
theory and/or power flow. 6. Interfaces with utility company on a daily basis to execute the
endorsed economic as per "Machine Merit Order dispatching strategy. 7. Directs and participates
in developing seasonal transmission analysis and operating guidelines. Develops and performs
power system network studies as required. 8. Monitors plant performance on a daily basis and
coordinates with Saudi Aramco generation plants to ensure that the maximum capacity is always
met in the most efficient manner. 9. Responsible for monitoring and dispatching power
generated by the renewable energy application, mainly solar and wind. This includes online
monitoring to ensure the optimal amount of power is generated. In addition to forecasting the
power generated by running weather reports that include cloudiness, temperature, radiation
amount, and wind speed. 10. Monitor and perform all existing Short Term Load Forecasting
(STLF) system functions related to the development and improvement of ten-day ahead hourly
DAM forecast and Saudi Aramco and utility load bid and generation scheduling. Perform weather
normalization/load growth studies and provide supporting variance analysis, monthly balancing
summaries with graphs, and reports for management review.
