TERNATIONAL Prayer Newsleller

July 1997

We bring you greetings in the form of our first

official newsletter! The rule of thumb is to write

one when you have something to say.

We have something wonderful to share with you!

There was much jumping for joy and praising the

privilege of meeting many of our brothers and

sisters in Christ. We have been blessed by the
hospitality and generosity of so many. We have
been loved, prayed for, fed, and cared for by people
whom the world would call "strangers," but in
Christ we are family!

period of rejoicing was followed by tears as each of
us fully realized chat it is now actually time to
leave. We are experiencing roller coaster emotions
as we grieve over leaving our family, friends, and
our home. At the same time, we rejoice over
going, and anxiously await our departure and
what the Lord has ahead for us inwiS^a?^

The Present

We have just returned from two weeks of PILAT

(Programjn Language Acquisition Techniques) in

Colorado. This extremely beneficial program is
designed to provide missionaries with the necessary
tools needed to learn a new language. The program
also provided classes for Adam and Danielle on

The Past

During the past year and a half, the Lord has

stretched us and molded us each step of the way.
This is helping us to prepare for our future
ministry in Kenya. We have stepped W-A-Y out of
our comfort zone as we knocked on doors, spoke
to churches, and presented the work chat God has
called us to do. Bur we did not step out alone. He
held our hand every seep of the way.

People often ask when we expect our work
permits. We do not know. What wedo know is
that God isfaithful and He has called us to Kenya.
He will make a way; we must simply wait upon
His perfect timing. At every step, we have prayed
for His timing, leading, and guidance. We have
also prayed that He will prepare us physically,
emotionally, and spiritually so that we can serve
Him well both here and in Kenya. We are learning
to let go of the reins and let Him have total
control, as well as becoming more flexible and
adaptable to the constant changes.

The Future

We are taking advantage of our extra time to plan

some special time with our family and friends, to
do final packing, and to move out of our old
house. We are praying for the Lord to continue to
make us and mold us into what He wants us to

be, so that we may serve Him well each and every

day ... wherever we may be. Lord willing, we may
leave for Kenya sometime in August.

What a Mighty God We Serve!

We are Kenya Bound!
For the last four months, we have been waiting
anxiously for any news on our work permits.
These documents are necessary to allow us entry
into the country to live and work in Kenya on a
permanent or resident basis. Without these
documents we could not go.
During this time, our permit applications were
denied once then resubmitted. At times, the wait
was a difficult trial, and, other times, we were able

to clearly see our purpose in waiting. At all times,

we prayed for the Lord's perfect timing and His
plan for our lives. We never doubted that the
Lord called us to Kenya and that He would make

We would like to sharewith you some of the

blessing we have received during this time. We
have learned duringthis time that waiting is nota
passive thing. It is a time of action. It is a precious
gift of time from the Lord. It is a time to prepare
and a time to trust.

We havelearned to use prayerandfasting as a very

realand powerful way ofseeking God's willand
peace in this time ofwaiting. We were richly blessed
by a Day of Prayer and Fasting specifically for our
permits. Thank you!

a way.

The waiting is now over, and soon we will be on

our way! As we write this letter, we tentatively
scheduled our departure from Portland, Oregon
to Nairobi, Kenya on January 9, 1998. What a
wonderful way to start the new year!

We have experienced theencouragement and prayer

support of our team members in Kenya, many of
whom we have not even met yet.
We are continuallylearning to trust the Lord and
let Him direct every single day.

You have prayed and even committed to prayer

and fasting on our behalf. We do not have the
words to express our gratitude to you. We thank
you for faithfully waiting with us and interceding
for us through prayer. We have been supported by
the tremendous peace that only the Lord can

on continuing education projects to maintain my
CPA license. Although I must complete 80 hours
of study, this can be done through independent

What Now?

We have much to do in completing our

preparations to go. We are scheduling our tickets,
repacking our trunks both for storage and to
take with us. (We had to unpack much of what
we had already packed due to our wait.) We still
need to locate storage, sell the house, sell the cars,
and squeeze in just a little more time with you,
our friends and family. We are thankful for the
