Artist Spotlight: Alex Baucom
By Hannah Miller

By Dayle Davis

Junior Alex Baucom, has

been participating in art for
three years now. During her
second year of art, Alex discovered her passion for creating and learning about art.
Her favorite artist is Chuck
Close. Chuck Close is known
for his creative techniques used for making portraits.
Alex is inspired mostly by her family. Her favorite piece
of artwork that she has created is Elvis. Alex has entered in one art contest, Google for Doodle. She plans on
taking art her senior year.
The art teacher for Rock Port students in kindergarten
through high school is Mrs. Stevie Eickhoff who is in her
fourth year teaching at Rock Port. More portraits like the
one Alex created (pictured below) are hanging outside the
art room; stop by to check them out if you havent already.

Everyone fears something, whether it is flying in an

airplane, dying, or encountering a dog. Sometimes
fear is completely out of ones control and other
times it is just a small feeling in the pit of ones
stomach. The fears you are about to read about,
however, seem to be quite unusual - and absolutely
outrageous.

ELEUTHEROPHOBIA- the fear of freedom.

PHOBOPHOBIA- the fear of phobias.

XANTHOPHOBIA- the fear of the color yellow.
ZEMMIPHOBIA- the fear of the great mole rat.
HIPPOPOTOMONSTROSESQUIPEDALIOPHOBIA
-the fear of long words.

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2012/10/16/here-are-24-weirdphobias-you-probably-didnt-know-existed/

Above is Alex Baucoms favorite piece of artwork known as

Elvis. She drew the picture in memory of Jerold Baucom. As
you can see, Alex has some real talent, and her artwork is

amazing!

3: Senior Year was even
released in theaters.
So, in honor of the Disney

turning ten years old, the
cast reunited last week.
Vanessa Hudgens, Lucas
Gabreel, Ashley Tisdale,
Monique Coleman, and
Corbin Bleu all gathered
to reminisce about their
auditions, favorite performances from the movie,
and talked about everything that has changed.
Zac Efron was not able to
be there in person, but he
did record a video message talking about his favorite performances from
the movie and how he
missed everyone.
This movie has inspired
many children to be who
they want to be and it reminds us that Were All
in This Together. Once a

LUNCH MENU - JANUARY 2016

Wed

Its a musical about finding out who you really are,

despite what your friends
or parents might think. The
lead, Troy Bolton, played
by Zac Efron, is completely happy just being
the basketball star until he
meets Gabriella Montez,
played by Vanessa Hudgens. Together, they want
to audition for the school
musical. But, will Troy
and Gabriella be able to
break free from the status
quo and admit that they
like show tunes to their
friends Chad Danforth
and Taylor McKessie,
played by Corbin Bleu
and Monique Coleman?
Will Troy and Gabriella be
able to beat the unbeatable
Sharpay and Ryan Evans,
played by Ashley Tisdale
and Lucas Gabreel, for the
coveted leads of the musical?
Directed by Kenny Ortega, when High School Musical aired on January 20,
2006, 7.7 million people
tuned in to watch, including me.
After watching the movie, you either wanted to

LET US ENTERTAIN YOU. Friday, January 22, was a night of

performances during the half-times of basketball games against
the Mound City Panthers. Above, seventh grader Corielle Jennings
smiles as she performs a twirling routine the junior high twirlers
have been working on for some time. The Rock Port High School
Dance Team strikes their finishing pose from their dance. These
girls prepare a different routine for every home game. The twirlers
are sponsored by Abby Palmer and the dance team is sponsored by
Kathy Ungles. Photos by Erika Dietze.
