Primary Job Purpose


This position plays a role in developing Save the Children Canadas National Indigenous Programs by
securing new funding and partnerships. The Manager, Business Development partners with the Director
of Indigenous Programs and members of the Fundraising, Communications and Marketing team to
identify opportunities, develop proposals, and maintain extensive knowledge of current donor landscape
for both public and private funding.

Opportunity Generation and Assessment:


- Conduct regular prospect research and analysis of market trends for new funding
opportunities in alignment with National Indigenous Programs strategic priorities
- Through active engagement with internal and external stakeholders, identify and secure
new funding opportunities
- Cultivate and manage relationships with external stakeholders including governments,
NGOs, and Indigenous and non-Indigenous partner organizations throughout
opportunity cycle
- Complete opportunity risk assessments for all National Indigenous programming funding
opportunities
Proposal and Pipeline Management
- Write proposals and coordinate proposal development efforts both internally and
engaging and with community partners
- Review proposals and agreements to ensure compliance to internal grant management
guidelines and donor requirements
- Proactively manage funding pipeline, prepare regular reports, and ensure internal grant
opportunity management solution is updated regularly throughout proposal cycle
- Regular financial forecasting and reporting of pipeline opportunities
Funding Agreement and Negotiations
- Lead negotiation process with government donors with support from the Director,
National Indigenous Programs and Chief Financial Officer as needed
- Confirm and share reporting requirements and timelines with internal and external
stakeholders

People Management
- Provide mentoring and coaching, actively supporting the professional development of
Save the Children Canada employees and their efforts to build knowledge of relevant
program theory and practice

Qualifications and Experience


Master degree in International Development / Social Services / Political Science or relevant
degree
Minimum 10 years progressive work experience in NGO sector in Canada with a focus on
Indigenous community development
Knowledge of child rights programming in areas of Health, Education, Child Protection, and
Livelihoods and the social determinants of health for Indigenous children and their families.
Extensive knowledge of the current political ,socio-economic and historical context of
Indigenous Peoples in Canada
Extensive knowledge of and contacts with govt funders including Department of Justice
Canada, Indigenous Affairs and Northern Development Canada, Health Canada and Public
Health Agency of Canada
Proven successful track record in securing funding in the areas of Health, Education, Child
Protection, and Livelihoods
Extensive experience in pipeline management, proposal development, budget development
Demonstrated project financial management experience

Detail-oriented to maintain accurate records and financial information within systems
Intermediate skills in MS Excel to manipulate, analyze, and reconcile financial data
Ability to travel nationally on occasional basis
Other Requirements
Adhere to Save the Childrens Child Safeguarding policy and protocols
Police check vulnerable sector screening
